Two --bwlimit issues
Hi,
I have two issues with the --bwlimit parameter to rsync which are not
mentioned in the FAQ (please correct me if I am wrong):
1. When both an rsync client and an rsync daemon specify the --bwlimit
parameter, the client's value overrides the server's value. This could
be used in a DOS attack if the client uses a larger value than the
server intended. The documentation also is

rsync scalability [Virus checked]
Hello rsync-users,
I need to transfer an PC image-file (200 to 400 MB) to 500 locations,
which are
equal as concurrent users on the day X.
what parameters do you suggest to use on the central rsync-server?
any recommendation for socket options?
is it a good idea to split the file into several pieces, let?s say 10 MB ?
Does this speed up the blocksum calculation or is it better to leave the

an --exclude-from question
It's probalby a common question, and I've read the man pages and such, but
I need a little bit more help getting this specific task to work right.
Basically, I want to mirror home directory structures, and only two files
within each home directory, to other machines from a central server. Those
files are ~/.spamassassin/user_prefs and ~/.procmailrc. Other files should
not be transfered,

(code 12) at io.c(177) error
We are using rsync to backup files from a bunch of computers to a central
server using rsync in --daemon mode. I've got a problem and are looking
for suggestions.
I'm not a newbie to rsync and have checked the archives without getting
any useable conclusions.
Our old server works great - a redhat 7.2 / 2.4.18 machine. But it's
getting full and there's no more updates for

Rsync 2.6.5pre2 released
I have released rsync version 2.6.5pre2 -- the second (and hopefully final)
pre-release for 2.6.5. The 2.6.5 release is primarily a bug-fix release to
squash some annoying bugs that made it into 2.6.4, though a few minor
enhancements did make it in as well.
To see all the changes since 2.6.4, go here:

Rsync 2.6.4pre2 released
I've released rsync 2.6.4pre2. It was a little sooner than expected,
but I wanted to get the new keep-alive packets out for testing. Plus,
one backward-compatibility bug had the potential to be rather annoying.
The changes since 2.6.3 are here:

The changes since 2.6.4pre1 are as follows:

--bwlimit doesn't work for daemon mode
[I'm not subscribed, please CC me on replies]
Some time after 2.6.0 the --bwlimit code was enhanced, but the code now
doesn't work anymore when you set the bandwidth limit for the daemon and
generates error log entries like:
2005/01/13 08:17:03 [29636] rsync: writefd_unbuffered failed to write 12 \
bytes: phase "unknown" [receiver]: Success (0)

Problems with --bwlimit && --daemon
Hi list,
I couldn't find anything related to this, on mailing lists or even bugzilla,
so here it is.
A problem with this combination exists in the new 2.6.3 where the bwlimit
code got rewritten and is not present at <= 2.6.2.
The problem is that on io.c:882 bwlimit_writemax is also used to control the
bandwidth, but it is not initialized for the daemon mode.
At options.c:772 you can see

ignorant question about Roxy- mode in ESS
I am slowly getting up to speed/being dragged into using Roxygen in a
project. I'm wondering if there's a way to emulate the behaviour of C-c
C-p (Rd-preview-help) in Rd-mode (create a preview in a new Emacs buffer
in "R Help Preview" mode), but from an Roxygen chunk. In Roxy-mode
there is C-c C-e C-t (ess-proxy-preview-HTML), which works to preview

libguestfs preview for RHEL 7.4
With the release of RHEL 7.3 happening today, fixing 88 reported bugs
in libguestfs and virt-v2v, and countless other ones, it's time to
look ahead to RHEL 7.4.
Again we intend to rebase libguestfs, virt-v2v and virt-p2v:

--bwlimit -z limits filesystem speed, not network speed
My impression when running with --bwlimit in combination with
compression -z is that the speed to the filesystem is limited to the
value given in --bwlimit.
This must be contrary to the intention with --bwlimit.

Saving Objects without Saving Objects
I have a problem that I think is probably fairly common but I haven''t
seem to be able to come up with the magic combination of search terms to
find a solution (or it really isn''t that common). Here''s the deal...
Scenario: A system allows a user to enter in articles via a web-form.
The system provides a preview function; not a live preview, but a

Fedora 6 -- can''t load wx
Hi,
I''ve installed and used wxRuby on Win32, and am
trying to install it on Linux for the first time.
I''m running Fedora Core 6. Here is what I have
installed, but as shown below, when I try to
load wx, I''m told it cannot be loaded.
I get the same error when trying to run some
of the sample wxruby scripts. Sorry for the
newbie question, but am I missing something

AJAX Preview & Edit Page Problem
I''m new to RoR and have started building my first application.
I''m building an account sign-up controller and I have two questions:
1. What is the best way to pass form params between methods in my
sign-up controller? The solution I''m using seems too hacky and there''s
got to be a something more elegant. I''m instantiating User.new to
