Rsync 3.0.3pre2 released
I have made rsync 3.0.3pre2 available for release testing. This is another bug-fix release, with the only "enhancements" being made to the manpages and the testsuite. These are the changes that have happened since 3.0.3pre1: - Fixed the combination of --xattrs and --backup. - Fixed several places in the code that were not returning the right errno when a function failed. -

Protocol stream error copying extended attribute, silent failure to copy all data
I'm using rsync 3.0.7 on Mac OS X 10.6, compiled with HFS+ enhancements according to Mike Bombich's instructions at http://www.bombich.com/rsync.html. Rsync repeatedly exits with a protocol data stream error on some com.apple.FinderInfo extended attributes. While testing this issue, I found that rsync is not copying all extended attributes even when there is no error message. I'm using

rsync, OpenSolaris, & Mac Attributes?
I've been trying to set up an OpenSolaris-based ZFS NAS server, with one of its functions being a backup server for my Mac-based network. I'm using rsync 3.0.3 pre2 on my Macs with some extended attribute patches, but have been running into some compatibility problems when rsyncing via SSH from a Mac to the Solaris server (I'm not running daemon mode on the server, but rsync 3.0.3 pre2

Concern: rsync failing to find some attributes in a file transfer?
I have a regular script I run to make static "snapshots" of my home file system, with each being all the files that changed in the past 24 hours. I just moved my home partition to a new harddisk w/more space. I ran the util and have gotten odd results each time I ran it. This one bothers me... as I'm not sure why the attrs would be missing. How can the names be transfered but no

patches in distros - include upstream ?
Hello, i have found, that major distros (especially opensuse) ship their rsync packages with a lot of patches which i don`t find in the official rsync-patches git. Maybe there is a reason for that or i missed something or looked wrong, but for convenience/transparency i have compiled a list of those and ask if it would make sense to put them into the official rsync patches git, as most of them

Rsync 3.0.1pre3 released
I have released rsync 3.0.1pre3 for testing. This version contains a couple more bug fixes since the 3.0.1pre2 release: - Don't allow a daemon-exclude of .* or */ to affect a (vital) "." dir. - Fixed a glitch in the path-checking of the daemon-exclude code that could check a relative arg against the wrong current directory. - A couple minor chdir() improvements in the
