NFS locking ...maybe?
Hi folks, After some more trial and error, I was able to get a bit further in the game with the permission issues I had (previous message was titled 'Samba permissions...) Now I'm able to get onto the system, browse and read/copy/delete files off of the shares. What I can't do is put stuff on because I get a locking error. The setup is as follows: Server 1 -->

Help with permissions
Hi Folks. I'm trying to setup Samba and having a bit of a problem... However, I'm not sure if it's a Samba issue, or NFS issue. The setup is as follows: Server 1 --> exports /storage/ftpusers In that folder, there are numerous user folders that are owned by each specific user. Server 2 --> nfs mounts server1:/storage/ftpusers as /mnt/ftpusers At the

smb/cifs share network speed testing
Is there any piece of software that I can use to run between a client and a linux or windows server with a smb/cifs share that will test network speed, latency, sustained read/writes, multiple file create, read, write, close, etc.. etc.. over X period time? I'm testing a Centos server with samba and Windows 2k3/8 servers on the other end of a T1 connection and while I know the T1 bandwidth

Logins differ for ip/DNS on ad dc
Thanks for the reply Rowland (and sorry for replying twice). I actually used the wiki you linked to setup the dc. I just added those idmap settings because getent could not list my samba users after setting it up, due to your mail I realised I only needed the winbind options to make it work. The original problem still remains though, using \\SMB.WIE I can only access netlogon and sysvol, using

[PATCH v5 virtio 04/11] pds_vdpa: move enum from common to adminq header
The pds_core_logical_qtype enum and IFNAMSIZ are not needed in the common PDS header, only needed when working with the adminq, so move them to the adminq header. Note: This patch might conflict with pds_vfio patches that are in review, depending on which patchset gets pulled first. 5.0 -> 5.1
Hi folks, I have a production server that's currently running 5.0 with all updates. What's the easiest, or perhaps best way to upgrade it to 5.1, with minimal down time? The downtime is critical, so I need to have it be a short as possible. I can live with an hour or two, but larger is going to be a pain. Suggestions? -- W | It's not a bug - it's an undocumented

DNS is done through bind9 and implemented in samba via bind9_dlz. Updates?
I just installed CentOS 4 on a new server and now I'm looking for updates that have been released. I like to keep a local mirror of all the updates so I can apply them to other machines easier/faster (this of course assuming I end up installing CentOS on more servers.) So, where are those updates mirrored? With RH/FC, I can hit any mirror and rsync the updates folders. Is there an

Logins differ for ip/DNS on ad dc
I set up a samba ad dc (self compiled samba 4.5.1 on Ubuntu 16.04). If I connect to the server via \\smb.wie (its dns name) I can access netlogon and sysvol. If I connect via its IP then I can access all my shares (test as an example) - but either way I cannot connect to the other (I do see them though). Windows always tells me the login credentials would be wrong for the other one. This is my

Headless system
So I'm in a bit of a pickle ... I have a machine that needs to be repurposed from WinXP to CentOS. I downloaded the CentOS DVD and all then realized ... I don't have a keyboard/mouse for the machine. It only has USB ports on it, and I don't have a single available USB keyboard that I can plug in. Bit of a problem. Usually what I do is install via VNC anyway, but that is contingent
