net getlocalsid problem
Hi I decided after some testing and experimenting, to move the
production servers from 2.2.x to 3.0. so I've installed samba3.0 in
paralel with the old binaries. To start the migration I wanted to save
the old domain SID, to can make the migration as transparent as
possible, so I did:
net3 -d 10 -I 127.0.0.1 getlocalsid
while the old binaries are still runing all that I've got

ADS Join problem samba3.0.14a kerberos 1.3.5
Hi List,
I'm getting an error join an ADS Domain, using samba 3.0.14a & kerberos
1.3.5.
When I look at the debug output from the join attempt, it almost seems
as though
The join is looking for an OU or something from the AD that doesn't
exist. I'm not an
Windows person and the AD admins are not around to help peep this out.
Can anyone take a look at the debug output below and

GPO Computer settings not applied
Hello,
I'm having one strange issue with latest stable Samba 4.0.4. I'm testing it as a domain controller for two virtual machines.
The Samba AD DC is Debian stable, with two domain members - Windows XP Pro and trial Windows 8 Enterprise.
User configuration using GPOs is working as expected. However, Computer configuration is never applied properly. Event logs show this entry:

re. Initial Samba Setup
On a recommendation from this list I checked the junklog file, the
output from which I attached below. It looks as if it does not even see
the linux machine as it indicates not seeing "explorer" which is the
local netbios name. The Win XP machine does not even show in the log.
Here is the last entry for nmbd.log:

Search and extract string function
Hi all,
I'm trying to write a function that will search and extract from a long
character string, but with a twist: I want to use the characters before and
the characters after what I want to extract as reference points. For
example, say I'm working with data entries that looks like this:

I am running SuSE Linux 9.0 with Samba 3.0.13 and have configured Samba with ldap and heimdal kerberos
Attached is my debug level 10 error log created when the join is attempted.
I would appreciate any advice on solving this problem.
Thanks in advance

302rc1 and AIX 5.2
I'm getting some wierd things going on. Mostly segfaults with testparm,
but others as well...
AIX 5.2, IBM C compiler version 6.0, libiconv 1.9.1 compiled in shared
mode.
I've resolved the LIBPATH thing so I can compile correctly now.
When I start nmbd, or smbd with the -D option they just chew up a ton of
cpu and log level 10 only shows the code pages being mapped and that's it.

security=ads
Dear samba-mailinglist,
We're using samba 4.0.5 as an active directory domain controller.
We used to set up some file shares on basis security=user in the old
samba version. I was able to set up the shares as they used to be .
My Question:
How can I set up "wich user kan read/write which share?"
Do I have to do this in den Active Directory or in smb.conf?
This maybe a trivial

Shutting down WinXP Pro instance
Recently I set up a PDC (Fedora 12 - I'm using this for a specific reason) using Samba 3.4.9 and OpenLDAP 2.4.19; I named my domain ATHOME. I am trying to figure out how to shut down WinXP Pro remotely and I'm not having any luck. Up to this point I have tried the following:
- I used ATHOME\root which is the admin acct I used to join XP to my domain. I added ATHOME\root to my

smb_register_charset error in Samba 3.0.0
Hi all.
I upgraded one of my servers to Samba 3.0.0 over the weekend, using the
source. Since doing so, I have had a huge number of errors logged on
that system that are all related to usage of the smbmont command.
Running smbmount (or mount.smbfs) gives the following error:
mount.smbfs: error in loading shared libraries:

iconv.c / static charset prototype/assembler bug?
Hi!
I think there is a little bug in the current samba release (3.0.22).
Take a look at cp850.c at the last line and you will see following
definition:
SMB_GENERATE_CHARSET_MODULE_8_BIT_GAP(CP850)
Using the macros from charset.c, the preprocessor expands this to:
NTSTATUS charset_CP850_init(void) \
{ \

error: net ads join - Debian AMD64 sarge
Can anybody from our experts help please?
I had some trouble with joining a Win2003SP1 (SFU Schema is also
installed) domain in ADS mode - config files and error logs are listed
at the end.
the goal is:
-joining a Win2003SP1 domain (with SFU Schema) in ADS-mode
-authenticate with winbind / PADL against this ads-dc (also offline for
notebooks with padl cache plugin)
It would be great, if

Can't join AD anymore after migration to 3.0.30
After migrating from 3.0.26a to 3.0.30 I cannot join my AD member server
to the domain anymore:
I get a DCERPC_FAULT_INVALID_TAG.
As I didn't change my Windows 2000 SBS Server, this looks like a new
feature in Samba 3.0.30.
Do I have to also migrate my Heimdal - if so, which version is required?
Kind regards,
Jens
P.S: Is there a way to find out the code changes in Samba 3.0.30?

"net lookup sid" fails to get user's domain
When I run the following "net lookup sid" command, I get:
# net lookup sid S-1-5-21-1908027396-2059629336-315576832-12220
S-1-5-21-1908027396-2059629336-315576832-12220 1 (User) \fhess
This is wrong in that "\fhess" should be "NIST\fhess". The other direction
works fine:
# net lookup name "NIST\fhess"
S-1-5-21-1908027396-2059629336-315576832-12220 1
