Mishandling read only files in 3.0.20b vs 3.0.21c
I noticed a few days ago running Samba 3.0.20b on Linux that if I had a file called "myfile" that was owned by "userA:groupX", writable by userA but read only for groupX 0744 userA:groupX myfile and that file was in a directory "/directory2/myfile" which was writable by the group "groupX" 0775 userA:groupX directory2 and directory2 was in

Samba4 and file permissions
Hello I configured a samba 4.3.1 service on a Centos 6.5 32 bit system and installed it in the /home/samba/samba-4.3.1 directory (I know this is not a good place but it was the only partition with enough free space). The samba is running as an Active Directory Domain Controller with rfc2307 enabled and embedded DNS server. This is my smb.conf # Global parameters [global] workgroup =

Tinc can't connect to names defined in /etc/hosts
Hi, I have a host name defined in /etc/hosts (say "1.2.3.4 host1") that resolves via that but not via DNS; consequently pinging and netcatting to it works fine. When I try to use that in a tinc host definition like "Address = host1", tinc 1.1 tells me Error looking up host1 port 655: Name or service not known Why is that? Does getaddrinfo() tinc uses not consider

Trying to join RHEL to Win2k3 Active Directory domain.
Trying to join a RHEL server to Win2K3 domain. I followed the directions specified here: http://kbase.redhat.com/faq/docs/DOC-4735 and here: http://kbase.redhat.com/faq/docs/DOC-3051 Confirmed that I have the edited the smb.conf and krb5.conf files correctly. Ran: /etc/rc.d/init.d/smb stop and /etc/rc.d/init.d/winbind stop Ran: net ads join -U administrator and got: [2009/05/20

[patch] known hosts with ports
Hello. We are currently installing a new firewall, and would like to use a mixture of NAT and port mapping to have a single "gateway" host address which exposes a range of open ports, each of which maps to sshd of a different host in our internal network (e.g. ssh.jesus.cam.ac.uk on port 6789 maps to internal host1 port 22 whereas ssh.jesus.cam.ac.uk on port 6790 maps to internal

"Virtual hosts" for ssh
It'd be very cool if ssh supported something like Apache "virtual hosts". This would make it much more viable to host multiple installs of git on the same server, for example. More details: On the remote server, ssh already sets some environment variables: > printenv | grep SSH SSH_CLIENT=192.168.1.18 50945 22 SSH_TTY=/dev/pts/1 SSH_CONNECTION=192.168.1.18 50945 192.168.1.1 22

Tinc encryption with intermediate hosts
Hi I have built a few networks with tinc and feel quite familiar with it. But now I have got a scenario where I can't clearly figure out how things work with tinc: I have two nodes, both of them are in different private networks and visible only to different servers, which have got an internal and an external IP. So my topology looks like this: [n1]->[host1]<-->[host2]<-[n2]

AIX 53TL8 Samba 3.2.4 Active Directory Win2k3 - "session setup failed: Call returned zero bytes (EOF)"
Hi All, I am using Samba 3.2.4 compiled from source on AIX 5.3 TL8 and using "security = SERVER" in the smb.conf works fine, however I am having some issues when using "security = ADS" .. I have followed numerous HOWTOs and newsgroup listings and seem to be going round in circles .. I think I can authenticate ok against the domain win2k3 server, but then Samba bombs out with

Configuring samba share to be controlled by Active Directory
Hello, I have a Linux box with RedHat 3 ES and Samba 3.0.9. Is it possible (and if so how) to configure a share that can be managed by Active Directory from the Windows 2003 servers? I have Samba and Kerberos installed and I was successful authenticating with Kerberos to the Win2K3 machine via kinit. I was also successful in having the Linux box join the domain via the net command and the Linux

moving from nt4 to active directory
I have 2 AIX systems that run Samba. We are currently on an NT4 domain and moving to Active directory. I am trying to find out what all would be needed to make that transition. The only authenification is for users connecting to their shares. I read one site via Google that states I need to create a user (Rocky) on both Samba and the AD server with different passwords but this does not seem

LDAP Authorising users from Active Directory
Hi, I am having stability problems setting up dovecot to authenticate virtual users against Active Directory on Win2k3. If the correct userid and password are used, everything works fine, see first logfile snippet below. If an unknown userid is used, again everything works fine. If I try logging in with a valid userid but get the password wrong, that connection is rejected (see second logfile

SSH and root access from limited hosts
This is blanket access for root from any host with valid keys (and password) - I want to limit that access to 4 hosts no matter what keys or passwords are provided/used. I have looked at shosts.equiv but this doesn't stop other hosts being allowed. I have also looked at "AllowUsers root at host1 root at host2 ..." but this also means including every user we have for all other

KVM VM traffic over host's Tinc VPN
Hello Tinc list! I'm trying to set up a Tinc VPN between two KVM host machines so that a VM on one host can communicate with a VM on the other host. While I do have a good bit of experience with virtualization, I'm not a particularly savvy network guy, so this is proving to be a pretty big challenge. Requirements: * ALL VM network traffic must be secure. * VMs on one host must be

Unresolved Questions for Active Directory Kerberos/LDAP/AD4Unix or SFU35 support?
I have been digging around for information on this in either online and published books, but I haven't yet found the answer. I am interested in AD connective through AD Kerberos/LDAP/SFU or AD Kerberos/LDAP/AD4Unix. I have a pure win2k3 environment, so there is no backwards support via PDC emulator. Published books document older NT-like environments. *cries* If there are any documents,

dovecot-ldap.conf - Active directory
Hello, I have a configuration with dovecot-ldap working with openldap (on FreebSD 5.4 Release). Now I'm trying to do the same thing with an Active Directory (win2k3). I have installed an properly configured SFU. Via nss_ldap-pam_ldap is working fine (FreeBSD 6.2 Release). Because nss_ldap is reported broken with dovecot I'm trying to use dovecot-ldap for both passdb and userdb. My

Samba 3.0.2a with ADS w2k3 Active Directory, enctypes
Hi, I'm about an article: This is a bug in Win2k3. See knowledgebase KB833708. The KB article itself isn't correct, because it states that if you request des-cbc-crc you'll get des-cbc-md5 tickets, but in reality you get rc4-hmac tickets. The KB article points you to a hotfix or a registry setting. I have the problem with W2003+samba, tried even that patch, but nothing
