Functionality bug (possibly) in openssh on AIX 4.3
Hi Folks, While compiling and testing openssh-2.5.2p2 on various AIX platforms, I've found that ssh will not accept root (based on ssh key credentials) logins at all if the AIX security features have been set to disallow remote root logins. If I disable the AIX security feature (enable remote root logins), I can then do bad things like rsh, telnet, etc. into the box as root. This deviates

Problem when importing via tdbedit and then picking up NTConfig.POL
Hi, Just found this out - is it a bug which I should register or is this by design? We had been running a Samba 2.2 server for a few years with a domain called PSCT - everybody very happy (well done guys!). Installed a new server with Samba 3 based on Debian Etch. The new server was set as the domain PSCT2 to keep things clear. Copied all data across to the new server. The new server has

Strange file listing with mounted REV drive
Hi, A client has an Iomega REV drive installed on a PC and this is used for the off-site backups. This drive has disks left in and then that drive on the PC is shared out. I mount the share with mount -t cifs //10.1.1.20/XP61REV /mnt/xp61 -o username=user, password=password,rw and this is mounted on to a Debian Etch / Samba 3.0.24-6 machine. Now when I 'ls' or 'find' this

Spacewalk? Local repo? Cache?
I have a mix of CentOS 5, 6, and now 7 servers at work. There are enough of them now that it is starting to make sense for them to get updates from an internal source. I've seen RHN Satellite in years past. It looks like it may be a way to allow Windows admins here (familiar with WSUS) to update Linux boxes. A local repo might be easier to set up, but (as with Spacewalk) it seems like

IP in IP tunneling
Hello, I am attempting to set an IP-IP tunnel between two PC in a same LAN in order to evaluate the performances of the tunnel (kernel 2.4.26). I read the section of LARTC HowTo about it and it seems simple but i do not succeed in setting it. I don''t find the new_tunnel.o module (cf LARTC HowTo). I found Configure.help a bit confusing : CONFIG_NET_IPIP "Saying Y to this option

Re: IP in IP tunneling [LARTC-HowTo update ?]
I''ve tried with iproute and it works now ! commands for A: ip tunnel add mode ipip tunl1 local IP_A remote IP_B ip addr add dev net1 local virtual-IP_A remote virtual-IP_B ip link set net1 up Same on B. And then from A i''m able to ping virtual-IP_B. It seems one can not use tunl0 as a tunnel name, is it true ? I think it will be a good thing to add to the section 5.2 of the

FTP tunneling
If people haven't seen it, there's a pretty nice Java SSH client called MindTerm: http://www.mindbright.se/mindterm/ One of the things they did is add some hacks to make FTP tunneling over SSH trivial. This client looks at the data being forwarded over port 21 (ftp control port), and looks for the FTP PORT and PASV commands used to establish

Problem with X tunneling, su, and xauth
Hi all. I'm trying to use ssh to connect from a PC (using TerraTerm with the ssh add-in) to a Solaris 8 or Solaris 9 box (both running OpenSSH 3.7.1p2) to establish a session for X-forwarding. Everything works great, until I use "su" to change to another account (such as root). The su'd user doesn't seem to be able to authenticate properly to use the X-tunnel. I did a

LocalCommand problem for tunneling on Linux
I've been testing tunneling on Linux with openssh-SNAP-20060116.tar.gz and found a problem. When I use LocalCommand for doing ifconfig stuff, the command line was executed before a tunneling interface is opened. This causes errors on Linux and the interface is not automatically set up. This is not a problem on *BSD because you can do ifconfig for unopened tun/tap interfaces. But in Linux,

ssh tunneling suite
Hi, Over the past few years, I've needed to establish a robust tunnel from work to home, trying to make it as secure as I can. Ultimately, I wound up developing three programs of varying complexity. Basically, every time I learned some new thing that made it work better either for the sake of security or robustness, I glued it into this stuff. It took too much work and research to get all

WoW Tunneling services in Wine?
G'day guys, I'm a long time WoW windows xp player and have recently made the switch to Wine/Ubuntu. I normally use a WoW tunnelling service (Lowerping, Battleping or Smoothping) to lower my WoW ping from the 400's to the 200's. (I'm in Australia which is why pings are so high) Although I've managed to get WoW up and running in Wine just fine (no hardware cursor yet but
