openldap - samba
I am having a problem getting users that were added in smbldap-useradd to be
able to login.
After I add them they are visible, but you can see I get this error -
pdb_get_group_sid:
Failed to find Unix account for test10
I believe that this has something to do with nss_ldap. because doing a
getent passwd, it doesn't display any smb info.
Any debugging info or help would be amazing, I'm

winbind caused "ls -l" hang on solaris 8
Hi Guys
I compiled Samba 3.0.26a --with-ads and --with-winbind with krb5-1.6.2
and openldap-2.3.38 using
gcc version 3.4.6 on Solaris 8.
and added winbind in passwd entry in /etc/nsswitch.conf
passwd: files winbind
The problem is the entry "passwd: files winbind" in /etc/nsswitch.conf
caused "ls -l" and Samba hang.
If winbind is removed from nsswitch.conf, "ls

what is the recommended samba version on solaris?
Guys
I was so frustrated about installing samba with ADS and winbind support
on solaris 8.
After fixing many problems, I am now facing another problem:
I created a directory "test" in the samba share and was editing a file
under the directory "test" and in the meantime the machine was rebooted.
After the machine is started, the
whole directory "test" is gone.

smbd process eating memory
Hi list,
I have a Samba-3.0.25a PDC running on FreeBSD 6.2-STABLE using OpenLDAP
2.3.34 (nss_ldap-1.255) as backend. Everything work's great, the only
problem that I fighting is with an M$ ISA Server 2000, that do ntlm
authentications on my domain. At some times (each 4 hours) the ISA Server
lost the connection with the domain and does not authenticate users until

Windows 7 + Samba domain issues
Hi all,
Earlier I emailed the list on some issues I was having with Windows 7, and one of those issues was the trust relationship breaking down after one month. I think I have some more light to shed on this topic.
First, some environmental facts
I am running Ubuntu Karmic 9.10 with Samba 3.4.0-3ubuntu5.1
I have installed the latest LDAP schema into OpenLDAP 2.4.18-0ubuntu1

Migrating from Samba 2.2.8 to 3.x on different machine
Hi all!
Samba 2.x has been running for a while now but now it's time to upgrade. I
tried everything (Google, Books, HOWTO's, etc.) but for the last month
I've been unable to perform a succesfull migration. Maybe I try to do to
many things at once but I cannot get the following to work:
- Move the samba domain from a 2.x server to 3.x on a different machine
- switch to a ldap

Multiple Samba accounts with the rights of a single Unix account?
Is it possible to have a standalone Samba server map different
username/password pairs to a single Unix account? More specifically, I'll be
using an external passdb (pdb-mysql or LDAP), and each username will only
see a home directory with the same name. But I don't want to have to create
a separate Unix account / UID for each username/password, the restriction by
directory is enough.

FW: Samba and winbind issues
Hi all,
I have a small issue with my current Samba install. I have installed 3.2.7,
and joined it to my AD domain with security=ADS, I have also built up a
Idmap backend using LDAP. It all appeared at first to work flawlessly. I
was doing some bits the other day and wanted to check the group listings, so
I ran "getent group" - This sat at the point after the local users for 5

Failed to join domain: failed to precreate account in ou (null): Out of memory
with samba 3.5.1 if I were to join a server to the domain and specify an OU
to create the computer object in, i get
Failed to join domain: failed to precreate account in ou (null): Out of
memory
However, if I run the same command with samba 3.4.5 it works.
Did the syntax change? I cannot see anything about it

Samba 3.0.24 + OpenLDAP
I'm using the above version of Samba with OpenLDAP. I also use the
smbldap-useradd script to add users, like below. I'm finding that I also
have to have an account in /etc/passwd for the user to get in otherwise I
get the message below. I thought that the ldapsam:ldap://localhost/ would
not require the /etc/passwd entry. What did I miss?

winbind fails "getent passwd eknuds"
Now I'm trying to make it so the Samba accounts can be used for user
logins as well. Unfortunately I'm having a bit of trouble with winbind.
Whenever I try to do a "getent passwd eknuds", it find the entry in the
ldap sam, but the winbind log for my domain comes up with this and the
getent displays nothing:

Running off pre-created keytabs
Hi folks,
we'd like to provision new Samba servers (file sharing only) with the
system keytab. It will precreated by some other process (msktutil)
because we don't have direct access to a domain admin account. Is there
any degragation in functionality by not using "secrets and keytab" and
not doing "net ads join"?
This is somewhat similiar to my question from
