Fixing some exclude/include bugs
As threatened a while back, there are some exclude/include bugs that I'd like to see fixed in rsync. Here is the patch: http://www.blorf.net/rsync-exclude.patch This fixes the following bugs: - A non-anchored, slash-including pattern with a wildcard needs to be matched at the end of the path (e.g. "CVS/R* should match throughout the tree, not just at /CVS/R*). - A leading

udev - by-id
Hi, I am trying to set up a CentOS 4 machine with various iSCSI mounts for Oracle, but devices keep on moving around, causing the mounts to fail while called by the sd[a-f] names. We thought about using labels, but, as some of the partitions do not use EXT3, that was discarded, so we thought about using udev and by-id. The problem is that udev does not seem to create the by-id folder or any

[rfc idle thought] exclude pattern left anchor
A thought has been nagging me for a bit now so i'll run it up the flagpole and see if anyone salutes. There seems to be quite a bit of confusion regarding the use of the leading slash as a top of tree anchor for exclude patterns. The manpage seems clear enough to me but somehow it doesn't seem to get through. What if we allowed a leading circumflex (^) to serve the same function. We

unexpected --exclude pattern behaviours with glob wildcards
Rsync version: rsync-2.5.6-3mdk (Mandrake 9.2) I see from the CVS log that some of the following awkwardness may be fixed (or at least different) in the next public release. I'm looking forward to that. In the interim, here are some problems: --------- Problem 1 - unexpected consequence of replacing / with ** --------- The following exclude works because the explicit slash causes a match

include directory, exclude contents
I'm using a simple client/server backup pull model rsync -a --delete -e ssh --exclude-from=$exclude path/$client.exclude \ ${client}-rsync:/ $path/$client but can't seem to find the right 'exclude' combination to fetch certain directories but not their contents. Unfortunately this was found during a recent major restore where the excluded directories had to be manually

How to change permissions on a directory without meaning to... - include/exclude semantics
Hi, Think I've found either a documentation bug, in rsync (or possibly a code bug), with the include/exclude feature. This occurs on (at least) 2.5.5 and 2.5.6 First I created a file list of files that I wanted backed up [root@poppy root]# cat /tmp/sendmail-rpmverify-out /etc/ /etc/aliases /etc/mail/ /etc/mail/helpfile /etc/mail/local-host-names /etc/mail/sendmail.mc

rsync exclude/include
I want to rsync only a small part of a directory tree. I've set up an exclude and an include file: exclude holds: /* include holds: /iso/1.5.*/i386 I am calling rsync using rsync -avz --include-from="include" --exclude-from="exclude" ftp3.sourceforge.net::/netbsd/iso iso/ but nothing happens. No files transfered. But I would expect rsync to transfer files:

Separating puppetmaster file serving and catalogs
I''m looking for a way to run more than one puppetmaster on the same server under passenger. Most of the puppet CPU load is waiting for the catalogs to compile. This also seems to be mostly what takes large amounts of RAM. I have storedconfigs on. I want to be able to move the fileserver to a different pool of puppetmaster processes. Is there an easy way to tell the client, either in

list.files changed in 2.7.0
I just noticed a change in the behavior of list.files from 2.6.1pat to 2.7.0 (I noticed it in 2.8.1 and traced back.) Previously, if the directory ended with a slash, and full.names=TRUE, the names returned had a single slash at the end of the directory, but now there are two. I noticed since I was getting a list of certain files and then grepping in the list for a full name formed with a

how to replace a single backward slash with a double backward slash?
Dear R-helpers: Hours ago, I asked how to replace a single forward slash with a double backward slash and recieved great help. Thanks again for all the repliers. In the meantime, I wonder how to replace a single backward slash with a double backward slash? e.g., I want change "c:\test" into "c:\\test" I tried the following but does not work.

RODBC sqlSave does not append the records to a DB2 table
I am running R version 2.9.2 on Windows XP OS with RODBC version Version: 1.3-0. Has anyone out there in the R user community successfully appended records to a DB2 table on a remote database using the sqlSave function in the RODBC package? (or by any other means from R?) I posed a similar question a few months ago and unfortunately, did not receive a response. I was hoping recent upgrades to

Can I read a file into my workspace from Rprofile.site?
I am running R version 2.8.1 on Windows XP OS. When I launch R, I would like to automatically read a file containing my database connections, user ids, and passwords into my workspace. I tried including this in my Rprofile.site file: ... local({ old <- getOption("defaultPackages") options(defaultPackages = c(old, "Rcmdr","RODBC", "utils")) }) .First

smbclient, tar, and exclude
As of release samba-1.9.16p11, the X option (exclude file) for tar creates doesn't work recursively; if the exclude file is a directory, files that are in the directory or subdirectories are not excluded from the tar create. I would like the exclude feature to work recursively, and attached is a patch to do it. The exclude feature works the same way for both create and extracts. ***

disable interpretation of trailing slash
Hello, This is a feature request for a command-line option to disable special interpretation of trailing slashes on source directories. I have been using rsync for a couple of years now (what an awesome program!) and the meaning of the trailing slash on a source is always the one aspect of its syntax that slows me down and makes me check and re-check the manual to ensure that I have remembered
