Hi,
i'm using samba 3.0.14a with an openldap 2.2.24 as the userdata
backend. From time to time i get the following entry in the messages
logfile:

Description of LDAP-attribute sambaSIDList
Dear List,
I found some new LDAP attributes in the latest samba.schema,
that where definitely not there when setting up our environ-
ment.
Unfortunately I cant find any description of these attributes,
especially sambaSIDList.
Does anybody has an definite description of that attribute,
how it is used and how it should be administered, as the latest
smbldap-tools do not use it...
Thanks,

Subversion VFS Module
I read about a Subversion VFS Module at http://www.samba.org/samba/projects/summercode06.html
Is this still moving?
(I don't know how to get the samba user if I try doing the equivalent using inotify...)

nut on mac os x
Is there some smart way of not having ioupsd claming the device on mac
os x?
Or having nut talk to ioupsd?
(/usr/ibexec/ioupsd is the builtin ups daemon, but I need the machine
to tell the other machine about the UPS status, and ioupsd does not do
networking AFAIK...)

winbindd completely stopped responding
I have a samba3 server (ubuntu, 3.4.7) joined to a samba4 that has been working very nicely but today I got errors:

and winbind logs on that machine (samba3) says:

Problem connecting to Samba server
Hi
Clients cannot connect to the Samba server (Version 3.0.25b OpenBSD/amd64), first attempt gives Access denied, second attempt gives The network name request is no longer available.
Can someone please help in finding out what is wrong? I've been going through the logs and configuration the past week, but can't seem to find out what's the issue. Any pointers would be appreciated.

Vampire
Can samba4 vampire another samba4?
After a dozen administrators there seems to be some oddities, and since
we started with samba4 alpha9 (I think) it may be time to go straight to
current release.
I guess that the idea is to get a fresh start and I hoping that a
vampire rather than an upgrade would only transfer the needed stuff...
Am I doing the wrong thing?
I now far to little of windows to

Cannot make Windows join Samba domain
Hi,
I'm having an issue trying to make a Windows machine sambaserveroin a Samba domain. Samba is running with LDAP backend (OpenLDAP). When I try to join the domain, Windows says that the machine account does not exist. The machine account, however, is successfully created in the LDAP directory after the join fails. When I try to join again, Windows says that the account already exists.

a share on a Wndows box I can see the users but no groups.
With UserManagerForDomains is see following:

Samba PDC with groups in LDAP
Hi All,
I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on a problem I'm
having.
I have a samba PDC with an LDAP backend, keeping the smb.conf file constant,
When I have /etc/nsswitch.conf configured with
groups: files ldap
Then
/usr/local/samba/bin/net rpc user info dbb
only returns my primary group.
If I have /etc/nsswitch.conf configured with
groups: files nis

smbldap_open: cannot access LDAP when not root
I'm using Samba 3.0.14a as a PDC with an LDAP backend.
I am having trouble using the Windows "User Manager for Domains" tool.
As an example, I shall be looking at the "Domain Users" group. Whenever
I try modifying anybody's group membership, I get the error message:

Local groups support
Hi all,
Has anyone been able to get local groups support with a Samba Server through
winbindd? Specifically, i am able to store several SIDs in sambaSIDList, but i
can't get winbind working to retrieve (or expand) its members.
Is Winbindd supposed to work _only_ with NT servers?

Creating a group share
Hello,
I have a Samba PDC (3.x) running in a OpenSUSE 10.2 system. The
authentication backend is Open LDAP.
I want to create a group share (WTCCC) which should be accessible to a
group of users (belonging to a group called WTCCC). The users' possess
this group as their secondary group (NOT primary).
And the share folder would have its gid bit set, so all the writes to

LDAP backend and sambaGroupType for builtin groups
Hi,
I have a question about sambaGroupType attribute on a Samba 3.2 PDC
with LDAP backend (and nss_ldap + nss_winbind).
What should be the value for Administrators builtin group ?
If i use smbldap-populate from smbldap-tools, the value of
sambaGroupType is 5 (and the LDAP entry for this group is a posixGroup
and a sambaGroupMapping).
I've also noticed that "wbinfo -g" doesn't

sambaUserWorkstations (with LDAP) not working with Groups of Computers ?
Hi,
I'm trying to use the sambaUserWorkstations option to allow users to log
on certain computers only. This option looks great... In fact it looks
now a lot better than the 'ldap filter' one than was deprecated with
samba 3.0.20...
The fact is, if the sambaUserWorkstations option works well with machine
names, it doesn't seem to work when specifying groups of machines.

samba4?
Stupid question ahead
background:
Our office is moving, and we are currently using a samba server with
an aging nt4 pdc.
The NT4 will not be a part of the new network, either we replace it
or promote the samba (3.0.21c AFAIK) to pdc.
To me the obvious choice is to install ldap and promote the samba
server to pdc, but...
(OK, here it comes...)
It is a bit tempting to replace the nt4 pdc
