Winbindd can't convert between SIDs and uid/gid
Samba 3.5.8 on OpenSolaris (SunOS 5.11) Intel platform; gcc 4.2.3; built with "configure --with-winbind --with-krb5 --with-ldap --with-ads" Samba is joined to our Windows-2008 AD domain. Pretty much everything works, except that winbindd can't convert between SIDs and uid/gid: 1. wbinfo -r WIN\\lanz (Returns nothing -- no output) First I obtain my SID from "wbinfo -n

Retrieving UNIX UID/GID directly through Active Directory
Hi, there's a bug on bugzilla.samba.org that I'd like to comment on but it's not letting me. It's bug #242, titled "Retrieving UNIX UID/GID directly through Active Directory from schema extension" The person who posted the request talks about using AD4Unix, but I've installed Microsoft's Services for Unix and it made similar schema changes. Specifically, it

user_db, uid/gid and maildir
Im experimenting with putting all my virtual users mail under 1 directory with belonging to a system user created for the purpose. The mode on the directory (and subdirectories) is 770. I keep all my virtual users details in a postgres database. My interpretation of the wiki documentation is that if the user_db query returns a uid column and a gid column containing the numeric uid and gid of the

Unable to map SID to uid or gid...
Hi. I have a problem with mapping SIDs to uids in Samba 2.2.6pre2. I am using Mandrake linux 8.2 with acls, and samba acting as PDC on my local net. My problem is what when I viewing permissions on my test WinXP box, it shows to me SIDs, but not a user or group, and of cource everyone... For example, I created user "test" on my linux box and added him to smbpasswd. Then, when I logon

uid and gid from unix to unix
Server: Samba 3.0.14a on Debian 3.1 stable with kernel 2.6.8.1 Client smbclient 3.0.7 on Mandrake 10.1 Problem: Share is mounted (by smbmount) with uid's and gid's values from Debian server. So user have no proper rights to catalogues in mounted shares on his local machine. Question: How to make uid and gid "mapping" from unix to unix? Exemplary: User john has uid=502 and

some Maildir files not honoring dovecot-shared
I'm using RC15 on Solaris 9. The wiki indicates that when a dovecot-shared file exists, "Dovecot uses the same permissions and GID when it creates index files, dovecot-uidlist file, new mail files, etc." In my case, Dovecot *is* creating new index files based on dovecot-shared, but dovecot-uidlist and individual message files don't completely match the permissions/group

(part 2) Can samba map between existing Windows (SID) users and existing unix (UID) users
I have had a few replies and it looks that I am on a no win solution. I either set up LDAP and delete local UID on our UNIX boxes and let samba convert SID to UID, or just leave thinks as they are. I still don't under stand why it is so difficult to do what I want when all the information seems to be at hand. 1) User changes security of a file on a samba share to allow DCSNT\andrew access.

help needed about SID to UID/GID mapping
Dear all I need some advise with respect to SID/UID/GID mapping. The server runs Samba 3.5.8 as a member of an AD (w2k8) domain. Our UNIX UIDs are taken from the 1000-60000 range with about 10000 allocated accounts. 99% of user IDs exist in AD with the same name. For that reason we rely on the "nss" idmap backend which is non-allocating. The problem comes with the group mappings.

Can samba map between existing Windows (SID) users and existing unix (UID) users
Hi again, This is a follow up to a previous e-mail, but no luck so I have done some more digging. I don't understand why it is so difficult to map between a existing user on a Windows Server (SID) and an existing user on a Unix/Solaris (UID) user, since all information is available? unix# /usr/local/samba/bin/wbinfo -n andrew S-1-5-21-1984182827-583073959-8547516-2056 User (1) unix# tail

samba-3.2.8 - KRB5_KT_UNKNOWN_TYPE;
When "use kerberos keytab = yes" in smb.conf is set with samba-3.2.8 and the environment variable KRB5_KTNAME is not set with the value using prefix "FILE:" or the default_keytab in /etc/krb5.conf is set without the prefix i.e. default_keytab_name = /etc/v5srvtab then the function smb_krb5_open_keytab() returns KRB5_KT_UNKNOWN_TYPE. Initially when I posted my access problems to print$ I was using the new registry based smb.conf I had my whole configuration in the registry. Now I move my printers and print$ back to the text based smb.conf and I copied the standard ubuntu debian [printers] and [print$] out of the original ubuntu package smb.conf and the only modification that I made was under the [print$] I change read only to

Installing Packages
Hi.. I am using R as a user, another group built everything I am using. But I need to install some packages and my only internet access is via a web-proxy. I have hunted though the docs and I'm not finding anything on setting a proxy in the package install command. Any help would be really appreciated.
