Strange file permissions
Hi I have a samba server with tdbsam passwords, and a share, PROJECTS, which is accessed by various XP home clients, the usenames and passwords being manually synced to the samba ones (less than 10 users, and only 4 workstations). There is one win2K machine, which is a domain member. Subdirectories on PROJECTS have g+s set, so only users, who are members of specific Linux groups, have access to

[PATCH] tools: don't expand prefix and exec_prefix too early
A comment in tools/configure says that it is intended for these to be command line overridable, so they shouldn''t get expanded at configure time. The patch is fixing tools/m4/default_lib.m4 as far as I can see myself doing this, but imo it is flawed altogether and should rather be removed: - setting prefix and exec_prefix to default values is being done later in tools/configure anyway

[resent][PATCH/liboggz] Fix an issue with the symlinks for pre-0.9.9 tool names
When files with pre-0.9.9 tool names exists in $(exec_prefix)/bin, "make DESTDIR=${staging_dir} install" tries to delete them, which may cause a failure for lack of permissions (quite likely to happen when building a package as a normal user), and is wrong anyway (nothing outside of DESTDIR should ever be changed by "make install"). With this patch, it will now cd to

: Win XP Client does not remove directories
Hello mailinglist, I have a strange problem, which occurs sometimes on some WinXP clients. It is not 100% reproducable for me, but it returns regular. The problem is, that somehow a user can't delete a directory. All files in the directory will be removed successfully, but the directory itself not. Deleting with the Explorer or over the cmd-console returns in the same result. First the

Re: URGENT!!!!! Problem: outlook.pst with samba 3.0.21c!!!!!!!!
You should give us a look at your smb.conf. AFAIK from my very own experience: 3.0.21c somehow behaves different from 3.0.20 with the same smb.conf. Maybe you have to set some values which did not have to be set before. NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED on a directory I have permission to access
Hello, I am testing Samba 4.9.7 before we upgrade our 4.8 domain member server. I am running into a weird permission error with our test server. My home directory is NFS mounted. The problem comes from a mail directory in my home directory.  I can't access it over SMB/CIFS, it gives me a permission error. From another Linux host that has our home directories NFS mounted, I can access it

Problem After Upgrade - NT_STATUS_FILE_IS_A_DIRECTORY
I'm running Samba 3.4.7 on Ubuntu 10.04. This is a recent upgrade and we've starting experience a sporadic problem after this upgrade. When users are browsing through Windows Explorer they sometimes run across folders that appear as unassociated files. This requires the user to click the 'Refresh' button in Windows Explorer to properly see the folders. The files and folders are

File locking issue
I have a client with an older server that is running into a weird file locking problem. The server is running FC2, samba 3.0.7 and kernel 2.6.10. They have recently installed AutoDesk Revit, which is apparently some sort of collaborative design software. Revit keeps a central repository and then allows different clients to access it. What is happening is that only the person who created the

Difficulty Compiling RSQLite on Solaris x86 Using Studio 12 Compilers
Apologies if this is not the best list on which to ask for help. I have compiled R 2.6.0 using Sun Studio 12 compilers. I can install most CRAN and bioconductor packages that I need, with the exception of RSQLite. Unfortunately this is critical for other packages that I need. I have tried to compile it using R CMD INSTALL to generate a config.log file. I don't know how to fix the reported

NFS mount problem
Hi, We have a major problem using Samba to access NFS mounted directories. The directory in question is on a Snap server running OS 3, and Samba is running on a new Sun V250 running Solaris 9; the NFS directory is mounted using udp. The problems occur when trying to load a file, which causes the samba process to crash. Another process starts automatically, crashes and so forth. However, the

MS Office files on NT client
Samba has worked well for several years - upgraded to 2.2 with Suse 7.2 6 months ago all well and happy. An NT client - logged on as Administrator - that was working with Samba for over a year had its share changed from one user to another - using clear text passwords, the machine was also tidied up. It connects to Samba with the new user's log on and password and NT explorer sees the shares

Fw: MS Office files on NT client
No one replied to me ..... But, in case anyone like me searches archives in vain for this problem, the answer is turn off oplocks on the share that the NT client wishes to save Office files to. Don't really understand why this resolves the snag and I guess the performance will take a theoretical hit. But with 20 client machines on a 100Meg LAN this is not really a problem. Phil Daintree Dux

Samba on AIX, issues setting read-only flag on files through Windows Explorer?
Hello list :) I am having issues setting the "read-only" flag via Windows Explorer on my AIX Samba share and I was hoping someone out there would be able to point me into the right direction to solving this issue... I have on my AIX 7.1 system installed Samba 3.6.24 and configured, joined to our Windows domain successfully. The samba binaries I got from perzl.org/aix In my smb.conf I

Can't set ACL on Samba

At the point where i am, i've managed to get Samba join correctly the domain with idmap_rid backend working fine. I can correctly set (add, remove, modify) file acls and extended attributes
