problem with sambaNextRid (WAS: updating samba/ldap: do I need new attributes?)
Hello,
I did the steps described below and I have a problem with machine RIDs.
When I first join a machine, samba adds to my sambaDomainName ldap entry
a sambaNextRid attribute with a value of 1000.
Now samba uses this value (incremented each time) to give its RID
to the machine.
This is going to be a real problem as my current samba computes RDIs
as 1000+2*UID.
FWIW I'm using

updating samba/ldap: do I need new attributes?
Hello,
I plan to update my samba-3.0.22/openldap-2.3.24
to samba-3.0.34/openldap-2.4.15 and I'm currently testing it.
This is on FreeBSD.
My idea is :
1) slapcat the openldap server and save the various tdb files.
2) deinstall samba and openldap and wipe out the bdb files
3) install the newer versions
4) slapadd to the new openldap server
This seems to work in my test lab.
During my tests I

My smb.conf ldap admin dn is cn=sambamgr,ou=Managers,o=miage

issues with Windows 7 roaming profiles
Hello,
I have a centOS 5.5 box acting as as a PDC with samba 3.4.9 and openldap 2.4.22.
Then I joined the domain with a centOS box (samba 3.4.17) which hosts the homes and profiles.
I have no problem with XP clients.
I can join a windows 7 client to my domain but it is unable to load the profile when logging in.
See below a level 2 log.smdb from the file server when I log in with a domain

questions about bug 5535
AFAICs Simo's patch for bug 5535 was only applied to the 3.3 series.
Does the closing comment in https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5535
mean that the inconsistencies about RID calculation won't be addressed
in the 3.0 and 3.2 series?
Does the fact that 3.3.2 always uses sambaNextRid mean that algorithmic
RID allocation is doomed to obsolescence?

machine account want use algorithm than sambanextrid
Was questioned before with no answer, but have the same problem:
With Samba 3.0.25 with ldap backend, what can i do for using algorithm "rid
=
2*uid + 1000", when samba create samba attributes (sambasid) of computer
account, instead of SambaNextRid from SambaDomainName entry ?
Background:
I create a machine account with smbldap-tools. After that a uidNumber was
given to the machine.

rid generation questions
Hello list,
I have a few questions to ask... I am about to migrate from Samba 2 to 3 (3.5.9). I am going to use LDAP as backend in the future and came across something I don't understand. As far as I know the 'old' way to generate RIDs for users is to take their uidnumber, multiply it by two and add 1000. For computer accounts it would be 1001 instead of 1000. I am now trying to

3.2.4 ACL inheritance trouble
Hi,
Since 3.2.4 (maybe earlier, but I doubt it), one important feature does
not work anymore for me:
I cannot break ACL inheritance anymore in the Windows ACL editor. With
previous Samba versions, I entered the "Advanced" dialog of the Windows
ACL editor and unchecked the flag "Inherit from parent the permission
entries that apply to child objects. Include these with entries

issues with smbclient 3.0.x against 3.4.x server
Hello,
I'm upgrading my samba installation from 3.0.34 (FreeBSD 6.4)
to 3.4.x (CentOS 5.5) from SerNet.
I have LDAP based samba domain (PDC and BDC) and a homes/Profiles
member server.
I first upgraded my DCs to 3.4.9 with no problem.
I have recently installed a new file server (samba 3.4.11 on CentOS
5.5).
I have issues connecting to this server with old versions of smbclient

What is cached swap?
Isn't cached swap somewhat an oxymoron? Why cache virtual?
Am I misunderstanding this line from top?
Swap: 524120k total, 80760k used, 443360k free, 73448k cached

When i set "ldap passwd

Allocate RID problem: algorithm vs NextRid
Hi,
after looking for some time on the web for a solution to my problem I
feel really brainwashed and I hope someone here can help me :)
I'm setting up a PDC based on this:
Ubuntu Linux 10.04 LTS
Samba 3.4.7
OpenLDAP backend
smbldap-tools
and I have a problem with RID allocation. Long time ago (before Samba
3.0.25?) RID was generated this way:
uid * 2 + 1000
gid * 2 + 1001
and it was nice

Centos 4 repos help me!
Dear CentOS Community
Is totally clear there's no support to Centos 4 platform today, but I need
to install some packages -ideally- from repositories, so I'll be glad if
someone can provide me still working ones, (obviously non-official).
If isn't possible I'll move on CentOS5, but (initially) keeping current PHP
and MySQL versions.
In both cases, I'll need working CentOS4

In this vm ldapsam:editposix.
OK. I have just created a posix-only user in openldap. And then tried
smbpasswd -a test01.
