Backing up ext3 root partition with dd
Is there a reason why an ext3 root partition cannot be copied to an
alternate partition using the "dd" command?
The dd is copying the mounted root partition into an alternate partition
that is not mounted. The dd returns success, but the fsck on that
partition fails with errors as follows:
-----------------
fsck 1.37 (21-Mar-2005)
/dev/Active_Update/root2: recovering journal

[PATCH node][REPOST 1/2] Fix uninstall to detect and cleanup correct partitions
Previous implementation had staticly defined partitions to remove.
This would break in the case of split Root and HostVG devices.

The /etc/haproxy/haproxy.cfg binds HAProxy to
ports 80 and 443 and accepts HTTPS to slova.de:

shell script strangeness...
On my CentOS 4.6 server, this works...
if [ -z `grep entry_chooser.js /var/log/httpd/access_log` ]
On my CentOS 5.1 server, this gives me the following error...
./test_file.scr: line 3: [: too many arguments
Can anyone explain why the difference and suggest something that makes
both cases happy?
Thanks

logrotate and regular expressions
I am trying to use logrotate to rotate our web logs for our various
vhosted sites to cut down on space and rotate out old logs that are not
necessary to keep around personally. What Im curious to find out, is
how supported extended regular expressions is within the logrotate.conf
file. More specifically, will logrotate be smart enough to decipher the

Netfilter fails to filter traffic from a netblock?
Hi Everyone,
We rent a CentOS 7 VM from GoDaddy. We received a warning about
excessive cpu usage, and a threat to cancel our service. We tracked it
down to Apache and someone hammering our web server.
The offending host is 59.64.129.175. To err on the side of caution we
attempted to block the entire netblock. According to whois data,
that's 59.64.128.0-59.64.159.255.

Browser related question
Greetings,
How does one monitor if a site is being accessed using browser?
IOW, I just want to know if a user has launched a session thru Firefox.
I basically want to know if a user has tried to access the webserver
and unable to reach it and log such instances.
I am using cron and curl to seperately monitor the link.
Any clues?
