Multiple Winbindd Instances and Disjoint AD domains
Hi , I need to use ntlm_auth across two different AD domains and their is no trust between the 2 domains. Multiple winbindd processes
Hi, My problem is that I'd like to have one GNU/Linux box with Samba installed serve multiple domains. I have 2 Domains separated from each other. Connected Samba box to both domains and joined them successfully. Running 2 smbd and 2 nmbd processes bound to the appropreate network interface, with different settings serving appropreate domans. Samba server is visible in both networks but

Multiple samba instances on same machine in v4.8 and beyond
This is a long shot as it look as though this may not be supported anymore. Since moving to CentOS 7 we have been using the instantiation feature of systemd to run multiple winbind and smb instances on a single server as part of an HA setup (pacemaker/corosync). In testing samba version 4.8 and beyond we have found that this doesn?t work anymore, or rather the client tools are unable to

winbindd will not connect to samba pdc
I'm trying to migrate to a Samba PDC from an NT PDC. Right now I'm testing whether a Samba member server can effectively grab user account info from a Samba PDC. Both the PDC and the member server are vanilla, no-frills Redhat 9 machines, the PDC is running Samba 3.0.9 and the member is running 3.0.11. I've followed the instructions in the Samba HOWTO for setting up winbindd, that

winbindd: socket dir
Hi List, Hunting around Google I've found a couple of references to using "winbindd: socket dir" in smb.conf to allow multiple winbindd instances to run but can't seem to find any doco on this feature. I have tried adding this to my smb.conf file but when I try to use ntlm_auth with this configuration any authentication fails and it returns: ntlm_auth --username=testusr

Using winbindd socket directory for multiple domains
Hello We have a setup on Ubuntu to join multiple AD domains and authenticate using NTLM_auth with freeRadius. Since there're multiple ADs domains involved, we were using "WINBINDD_SOCKET_DIR" environment variable to use the correct cache directory for each domain. Everything looks fine and all worked when using samba 4.7.9 running on Ubuntu 16.04. Now, we're upgrading to the

Winbindd timeout on unreacheable domains
Hi All, I have a concern with the behaviour of winbindd on startup in a multi-domain environment, in my case a 6 domain AD forest + trusts to 3 NT 4 domains. I've tested startup of winbindd in a 2 domain development environment and found if a trusted domain is not contactable it takes five minutes to timeout before winbindd becomes active (/tmp/.winbindd/pipe is created). If I assume this

Winbindd runs interactively, fails as a daemon
Hi, I have server which is joined to an AD DC but I am having problems starting or keeping winbind running. If I reboot the server, it fails to start. If I then start it with "winbindd -i" it runs. I can then terminate it and run it as a service and it works for a while. At some indeterminate point in the future it may fail again. When trying to start it initially (before a winbindd

FW: authenticating using winbindd against NT4 domain fail s (URGENT)
Hi folks, Can anyone shed light on this issue? I haven't heard from you guys. Is there anything else I could do to expedite resolution of this issue? I've read the WHATSNEW.txt and reviewed the release notes. I am not sure if I've fully grasped what needs to be done. Can someone point me in the right direction? ~Doug -----Original Message----- From: Doug Sampson

smbd/winbindd truncating user name: "Could not parse domain user"
Hello, we have built Samba 3.5.2 with ADS support on Solaris 10 and joined the server successfully into the domain. kinit, klist, wbinfo -g, wbinfo -u, net ads info are working correctly. Unfortunately whenever we want to access a share on the Solaris server from our Windows XP / Windows 7 clients we get a logon box to specify username and password. smbd log file shows that the logon attempt is

group mapping on a member server - winbindd and solaris 10
