Creating Custom System Policy Templates
Has anyone looked into creating custom templates for Microsoft's System
Policy editor ? I like the idea of managing workstations through the
NTConfig.POL file, but the included templates are quite a bit outdated.
Does anyone know if it would be worth-while to take the time and create an
updated Template to add policies to manage newer features of Windows
2000/XP through the NTConfig.POL

The use of goup policies in XP and Vista
Hi all,
Can anyone point me in the right direction to apply Group Policies from a
Samba 3.0.26 PDC to my Windows XP and Vista clients. I read chapter 26 of
the Samba manual (dated April 3 2003) and I was wondering if the
NTConfig.POL file in the NETLOGON share is the way to go here?

Joost.

policy files
Hi,
I think I have two questions - one which is samba and one which is windows
policy files. I'll try to limit this question to the samba side but will
give the full picture for completeness.
I'm trying to implement a simple policy to redirect a few simple folders
(for starters). I have a policy file called NTConfig.POL that is available
on my share \\wilson\netlogon (wilson is the

netlogon path of samba
I am working with kixstart. On sigining in each user get his pref file. You

Windows security policy
Hello everybody!!
I have a big network here with many machines with different operating
systems (Linux, Windows 9x/2000/XP and FreeBSD). Currently all of them are
authenticated by a Debian GNU/Linux server running SAMBA with LDAP. It works
perfectly but I have some problems to block some features from Windows
users.
I'm looking for some tool to control the user rights around his own station

Samba 3.0.0 PDC + Win2000 Client + Group Policies
We want to build a Debian's unstable samba 3.0.0beta2-1 as PDC with plenty of
Windows 2K clients.
Joining the domain, Domain Logons, Roaming Profiles, Domain Groups, are Ok.
As we thought that Samba 3 cannot handle Win2K's GPOs (isn't it?), we tried
NT4 style Group Policies to restrict a bit users posibilities (as we have
students as users). Our opinion is that Mandatory Profiles

howto "upgrade/transfer" samba domain-user + domain-group data to a new windows 2003 act
You could do what we do - just replace the local machine policies each time you rev the policy set. They're stored in c:\windows\system32\grouppolicy.
Using gpscript.exe (Google for it, don't have a specific site) you can dump the contents of either registry.pol file to text. You can also recombine textfiles back into a .pol file, and subsequently rev the gpt.ini file so your new .pol

Hi,
A few weeks ago I announced a rewritten PROFILES.txt on the mailing
list.
It is available on http://users.iafrica.com/p/pc/pcs/profiles.txt
The idea of it is to explain exactly how NT and 95 handles roaming
profiles and then specify how to set up samba to enable both to handle
roaming profiles.
Most of the document it finished, and I would like to contribute it, but
I have a few things to

Controlling use of roaming profiles
We are using a system running Red Hat Linux 7.0 with Samba 2.2.7a as
our PDC.
For the most part, we want to use roaming profiles, so that users'
settings are backed up via the PDC, and are available if they need to
change or reinstall their Windows desktop machine. However, there are
a few Windows systems (running NT 4.0 or Windows 2000) for which
we would like to be able to disable roaming

group policy (2000/XP)
Hello all,
I am a new user of samba, that's look pretty cool.
I use samba 3.x. There are only windows 2000 client(and 1 XP) in french
language. I don't have any license of some server version like windows NT4
server, 2000 or 2003 server.
One think i would like to do is setting the time of the windows 2000 client.
I write in the "logon script" :

NTConfig.POL ignored
Why would NTConfig.POL be ignored?
I've got an Ubuntu server running a Samba (3.3.2) PDC. I've created
NTConfig.POL as per www.pcc-services.com (on a Windows XP Pro machine, for a
Windows XP Pro machine), and stuck it in the netlogon share, but it doesn't
go.
The XP machine can get at the netlogon share and is part of the domain. It
can access other shares as well. I get nothing in

NT Policy Editor
Does anyone know what could cause "Save As..." to be grayed out when you
are working with the policy tool? Everything I've read just tells me to
save an NTconfig.POL, but... for some reason, I can only save the policy
to the local machine. Do I have to be logged in as a local user, or..?
Thanks for the help. For anyone who is confused about policy
implementation, a great resource is

W2K Workstation not reading NTConfig.pol
I have recently set up an small SAMBA network(just my
server and a W2K SP4 Workstation). My Server is acting
as a PDC. Everything seems to work flawlessly, users,
roaming profiles, netlogon script, etc... But I cannot
make this machine to read my NTConfig.pol file.
I have it at my NETLOGON share [/srv/netlogon] with
rwxr-xr-x permissions. I have tried with different
filenames (NTConfig.POL,

creating NTConfig.POL
I have an NTConfig.POL I created from poledit with the Windows 2000
Administrator toolkit. It contains my WSUS configuration, and
NTConfig.POL is placed in my [netlogon] share and is being loaded fine
by the clients. Is this still the propery way to create NTConfig.POL
files, or is there a newer utility I should be using? I'm looking at
Vista and it uses .admx templates, which I guess

NTConfig.pol
Hi list.
I've just configured a PDC server using RedHat Enterprise Linux 4 (update
5) and Samba 3.0.25a.
Everithing is working fine. I'm not using LDAP and all my client machines
are installed with Windows XP Professional.
I used the Mike Petersen website (
http://www.pcc-services.com/custom_poledit.html) to help me creating the
NTConfig.pol file and created custom profiles

Inter-domain trust relationship AND logon script/ntconfig.pol
Hi there,
I'm using an inter-domain trust relationship (DOM-B trusted, DOM-A
trusting, COMP-A=DOM-A computer member).
It works as expected (ish), DOM-B users can logon onto DOM-A
computers.
I'd like to know if it is possible to force login scripts and
ntconfig.pol to be read from the DOM-A pdc server, rather than from
the DOM-B one ?
My setup includes a samba trusted domain and several
