scary fill_share_mode_lock failed message
I'm still working on figuring out why some accesses to profile data are failing. We are running 3.3.2-0.33.fc11 (the latest release for FC11). I saw this in the log file stat_cache_lookup: lookup succeeded for name [USER/STARTMENU] -> [user/StartMenu] [2009/07/08 17:39:59, 3] locking/locking.c:fetch_share_mode_unlocked(857) fill_share_mode_lock failed I saw Volker had a fix

Users can create, but not delete files.
I have an ubuntu 8.10 server that is authenticating against active directory (Win2k3) and acting as a fileserver. I used likewise open to setup the AD authentication. If a user creates a file in a directory that he doesn't own, he can modify the contents of the file, but not delete or rename it. The group permissions should allow the user to do this. If the user owns the directory,

Differences adding printers between Windows XP & Windows 7
Not sure what's going on here, but it's got to be a permissions thing it would seem. Background: working ADS. Samba 3.5.6 atop Freebsd 8.1 as domain member When I attempt to load drivers with Windows XP Pro (32bit), everything is fine. I can load either x32 drivers or x64 drivers. The same cannot be said for Windows 7. I cannot correctly load drivers with Windows 7, and here is a

Strange msdfs connection problem
Hello, we have a Samba 3.2.8 msdfs root server. From time to time the connection from a Windows 2003 SP2 system will fail with the message that the server name could not be found. On Windows XP it seems to work. On Windows we open the folder user1/folder/subfolder with the explorer. In the failure log I can't see anything about the subfolder. If I compare the samba log (debug level 10)

Write/Modify issues
I'm having problems with one share. It's mounting a directory on an isilon over NFS. I've re-created the setup on the same machine where the data is and that works fine, it's just the existing share gives trouble. I can create a file, but not rename and sometimes not delete. Also saving file from say photoshop result in two empty files being created one with the proper filename

strange: failing upload of special profile-dirs
Hi to everyone, Something quite strange occured to me this weekend as we wanted to switch our network to w2k ads structure with a sambaserver as main fileserver running winbind. The windowsprofiles are supposed to reside on the sambaserver and the client successfully loads the initial profile. The first time the user logs on to his machine, he gets some default .msi-softwarepackages assigned by

This application is entirely installed in a Windows share and it has a hystory of strange phenomenons. Initially it ran fast on an old NT server (but that server has been replaced). It has strange performance problems with Windows 2000 Server: it runs fast with some servers and slow with

Problems with Word 200 and Samba 2.2.6
I'm hoping someone has some insight into a problem I'm currenty having, which is: No one is able to edit (in place) documents with Word 2000 on a samba (2.2.6) disk share. Where do I get detailed information about oplock-types and possible errors?

Show stopper - 2nd cry for help
<Long Post, sorry!> Folks, I have a really nasty problem preventing me from migrating a bunch of NetWare 5 servers to Samba--attempts to copy large (> 2MB+) files to any samba share results in an error. To clarify what I mean by "error": 1. I attempt to copy, using explorer, a 2MB+ file to any samba share. 2. A 30 second or so pause occurs (copying this file to any other

: Win XP Client does not remove directories
Hello mailinglist, I have a strange problem, which occurs sometimes on some WinXP clients. It is not 100% reproducable for me, but it returns regular. The problem is, that somehow a user can't delete a directory. All files in the directory will be removed successfully, but the directory itself not. Deleting with the Explorer or over the cmd-console returns in the same result. First the
