failed to find slave socket - (RuntimeError)
Hi everyone, I''ve a class that try to spawn two workers, every 5 seconds. The code is something like: while true do MiddleMan.new_worker(:class => :researches_worker,:job_key => :researches) MiddleMan.new_worker(:class => :products_worker,:job_key => :products) sleep(5) end I''m using ":job_key", so if a worker hasn''t already ended its work

Cannot start workers in production mode
I have a job that I am starting from a Rails controller in production mode using MiddleMan: MiddleMan.new_worker(:class => :import_ccg_category_worker, :args => { :category_id => @category.id, :remote_category_id => params[:remote_category_id], :description => "Importing CCG products for #{@ category.name}" }) Both of the category ID variables are just basic integers. Drb Connection error on multiple dispatch.fcgi ''s
Hi All, I''m using Backgroundrb as a general purpose long-running-task back-end (upload processing, email sending, etc), and it''s been a great solution. However I''ve recently run into some some intermittent connection issues that have me baffled. I''m running on apache2/fcgid and the problem occurs in both devlopment and production mode. The problem seems to

Production RAILS_ENV / DB Selection
Hey all, I''m having some issues moving a project that incorporates Backgroundrb onto a staging server... For some reason (surely of my own doing), my RailsBase workers are insisting on using trying to access my development DB instead of my "production" DB. When I try to load a model object from within a worker, I get the following: 20061120-21:54:28 (26296)

:job_key acting weird?
Hi all I''m experiencing something strange with a :job_key, it took me a very long time to find out a worker wasn''t doing it''s job because of the name of my job_key. The first one I tried was :make_kohier, and with that name (and lot''s of other ones) I can''t get the worker to work. I do get my key in return, but the job doesn''t start

"Text is not a module"
Hello all, After upgrading to Rails 1.2.2, I''m getting a strange error when one of my workers is invoked. The worker is responsible for monitoring a folder (using directory_watcher) and emailing a specific user when a file is dropped there, but it''s bombing immediately upon instantiation (or maybe when trying to instantiate ActionMailer?) with the error "Text is not a

BackgrounDRb New release.
Howdy Folks- I''m happy to announce a new release of BackgrounDRb! I have added quite a few new features and included some nice patches from folks on the list. $ script/plugin install svn://rubyforge.org//var/svn/backgroundrb All of the code now stays within the plugin and the start and stop scripts are now just stubs. This makes it easier to tweak or figure out how it works.

Backgroundrb weirdness with multiple mongrels
Hi list, I''m having some issues getting backgroundrb to play nice with more than one mongrel. When I run my app on a single mongrel instance it works fine. I have two different problems show up in my backgrounrb_server.log. The top of the backtrace is shown here: 20070130-12:03:03 (92473) failed to find slave socket - (RuntimeError) 20070130-12:03:03 (92473)

backgroundrb not cleaning up tmp files?
I just had an interesting issue on a production system that has been running nicely for about a year. There were approximately 10,000 backgroundrb temp files in the /tmp directory. It looks like backgroundrb wasn''t cleaning them up. I noticed it with the following error: DRb::DRbConnError: drbunix:///tmp/backgroundrb.20015/ backgroundrb_logger_0_0.101544829808665 -

Repeatedly dying with "failed to find slave socket"
I''m struggling to keep backgroundrb v2 running for more than 24 hours. It appears to be running fine for a while, then tries to fire off a worker (exactly the same worker it''s been running for the past few hours), and it suddenly dies. I haven''t found any pattern for the cause of this. In backgroundrb_server.log, the final entry is this : 20070206-10:41:45

Exception when doing DRb remote calls from a BackgrounDRb worker
Hello, I am trying to make DRb calls to a external server from a backgrounDRb worker, but I''m getting always the next exception when I make the remote call. > ERROR: > drbunix:///tmp/backgroundrb.11175/experimenter_worker_3e899de945f0803a82cd257cfac316d0_0_0.0738904928422051 > - #<Errno::ENOENT: No such file or directory - >

error message for record not found ?
I''m using backgroundrb for session management and deletion of visitor-entered information when a session is abandoned. The visitor can either click a button to end their session and remove their data, or backgroundrb will do it for them after 5 minutes of inactivity. Everything''s working fine, I think. If the visitor explicitly logs out, then when the worker checks for their

BackgrounDRb background task runner and Application Wide Context Store
Friends- I''m happy to annouce the first alpa release of BackgrounDRb. This is a small framework for managing long running background tasks that allows for ajax progress bars and more. It also serves as an Application wide cache and context store for when you need something like sessions but shared between users and multiple backend processes like fcgi''s or mongrels.

Stopping DRb after using BackgrounDRb::MiddleManDRbObject.init
Hi, I''m having a problem where connections started through BackgrounDRb::MiddleManDRbObject.init are not stopped, resulting in an ever growing established connections between my Mongrels and remote backgroundrbs I added DRb.stop_service to my code executed after requests that init MiddleManDRbObjects but that does not help. Any ideas? Thanks, Robert Bjarnason

Question about acls
Hi, I''m not much of a developer but I''ve been using backgroundrb for a while now and with the release of 0.2.1 it looks like I can finally upgrade from the old version (0.2.0 had some weird issues when jobs just wouldn''t run, seems to have cleared up now - Thanks!). Anyhow, while I''m doing this, I would like to tackle this problem. Most tasks I run in

BackgrounDRb release 1.0 available now
Hi Folks, I am glad to announce 1.0 release of BackgrounDRb. This would be a major release since 0.2 release of BackgrounDRb. Here is a brief summary of changes: - BackgrounDRb is DRb no longer. It makes use of EventDriven network programming library packet ( http://packet.googlecode.com ). - Since we moved to packet, many nasty thread issues, result hash corruption issues are totally

problem with worker status
Hi, I have a page were users can start jobs that may take several hours to run. BackgrounDrb is perfect for me and seems to be working well most of the time but some times I have the following problem: My worker is set up like this: class UploadWorker < BackgrounDRb::MetaWorker set_worker_name :upload_worker set_no_auto_load(true) def create(args = nil ) file = args[:file]

Using BackgrounDRb to replace nested loops?
In response to my Rails Weenie post today[1], someone mentioned that I try BackgrounDRb to help take the strain off my application. 1: http://rails.techno-weenie.net/question/2006/7/13/nested-loops- best-way-to-send-messages-to-blog-subscribers I''ve just tried to install and use BackgrounDRb with my app, but I''m afraid that I''m not too versed in running processes
