how to connect to rsyncd via forwarded ssh port?
I've running a rsyncd and ssh port forwarding (-R 12345:localhost:873 backup@server)
on a client because the client should not reachable but over ssh.
The rsyncd should acessible because I can backup and restore files with backuppc
(a wonderfull program which use perl::rsync)
And I can "ssh -p 12345 backup@localhost" to this client too.
If I try to connect (from the machine/user

Hi there list :)
I use backuppc to take backup of a bunch of hosts, but I ran into problems
with the last one I set up, I can't find anything that is different on
this one...but it won't work...
So any hints would be greatly appreciated, here are the files

errors messages : rsyncd 2.6.x + backupPC 2.1.2
hello,
I get some error messages when using BackupPC with rsyncd-style backup:
- on the backup server : BackupPC 2.1.2, using its own rsync perl module
- on the box being backed up : rsync 2.6.6 , runing as a daemon (rsyncd)
the area to be backed up is rather big : ~120 Gb
the rsyncd daemon is configured with a big timeout = 7200

selinux & rsyncd: Allowing global read for backup
I want to set up rsyncd to expose the whole drive read-only to BackupPC
running on another machine. So I need to set selinux to allow this.
According to the Fedora wiki I can do so like this:
setsebool -P rsync_disable_trans 1
<https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SELinux/rsync>
But when I run the command on CentOS 7.3 it tells me that this bool is not
defined. So what do I do now?

rsyncd server daemon not allowing connections
Gang, I've read the manual(s), surfed google, spent about 5 hours on this,
to no avail....
I'm trying to run rsync in server mode and it appears to start normally,
but it refuses all connections (refuses connection when I tried telnetting
in on localhost 873!).
I've turned off all firewalls on this server (do I dare tell you guys
that?...), which is fine: it is on a local network.

Setting up BackupPC on CentOS-7
I'd be interested in any corrections or comments
on the following instructions (basically for myself):
We assume that BackupPC has been installed:
sudo yum install BackupPC
1. BackupPC must be run by the user backuppc.
Accordingly the lines
User apache
Group apache
in /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf should be changed to
User backuppc
Group backuppc
2. The user backuppc must be able to

BackupPC is not easy to setup
I finally got BackupPC working under Centos-7.1
after several hours of pain.
I had been running it for several years under CentOS-6,
and probably CentOS-5, but there seem to me
to have been several new issues that arise with CentOS-7.
In my experience, the official documentation on this,
<http://backuppc.sourceforge.net/faq/BackupPC.html>,
is more or less useless unless you have a very long

BackupPC
Hello,
Been working on this for a couple days and I am stuck!
Followed the CentOS WIKI on BackupPC to the letter. It may be outdated, not
sure. I also looked at the tutorial on HowToForge.
I'm trying to get a windows client to backup via smb.
I created the user 'backuppc' on the windows client with admin priviledges.
I can map the drive/share from my CentOS Samba server using

It is simple to set up a rsyncd server under Cygwin / WinX to feed
BackupPC. I normally install "full" cygwin to access rsyncd, but there
is a limited client available.

Asterisk hangs up SIP call after 6 200 retransmits
I have the following scenario:
PSTN gateway (202.180.nnn.nnn) -> OpenSER 1.0.1 (147.202.nnn.nnn) -> Asterisk 1.2.16
(203.89.nnn.nnn)
When an incoming call is received, often (but not always) Asterisk repeatedly sends a SIP 200 OK message and eventually hangs up the call.

its a full blown backup service for any number of client hosts, it
maintains a pool of full and incremental backups going back as far as
you care, and this pool is fully dedupped to reduce its size. it uses
rsync to fetch files from the

BackupPC: two newbie questions
I'm running BackupPC under Centos-5.2.
1. Will BackupPC backup files in NFS-mounted directories?
If so, is there any simple way of preventing this?
2. I have seen it suggested that it is not a good idea
to backup onto a partition on the same drive
as the BackupPC server?
Is that true?
If so, is a partition on a separate drive on the same machine also bad?
Ps Apologies if this has been

I hear that backuppc does *not* have a native *Doze client. On the other

amanda, folks?

pre-exec fails in windows
Hi,
I want to disable windows suspend before starting backup by rsync.
My rsyncd.conf:

max connections = 6
log file = /var/log/backup-service.log
read only = false
write only = false
transfer logging = no
list = false
max verbosity = 6
pre-xfer exec = powercfg /H off

path = /cygdrive/c/

path = /cygdrive/d/

Unfortunately that didn't work.
