strange problem with ipfw and rc.conf
Hi all:
I have strange probelm with rc.conf. I set up ipfw
(compiled into kernel) on freebsd-5.4 and it doesn't
seem to load ipfw rulesets (it uses default ruleset
65335 locking out everything). I have to do "sh
/etc/ipfw.rules" in order to load the rulesets, once I
did that, I can access the box from remote locations
here is my rc.conf:
host# more /etc/rc.conf

nnamp question
Hi:
I have a machine with four interfaces connecting four
different networks. I am learning to use nmap and
trying to force the nmap working only one interface.
As nmap man page states, I use -e option and it would
not work:
nmap -e fx0 -v -sP 192.168.128.0/23
Starting Nmap 3.95 ( http://www.insecure.org/nmap/ )

IPsec, VPN and FreeBSD
Hi:
We intend to build IPSec based VPN server on FreeBSD
platform so that we can access internal network of a
lab. The remote side will use VPN client and could be
from anywhere of the Internet, or may be from the
another site of the company. From the hnadbook, I saw
the sample of site-to-site configurations and we do
have one FreeBSD firewall (running ipfw) on both site
and another one on

ipfw and carp
Hi all:
Did any one use ipfw with CARP before? is there anything specific about ipfw configurations working with CARP? I have two servers and they configured with CARP. they are working fine except i can't turn on ipfw.
I have the exact same configuration except ip addresses; those same rule sets of ipfw work on one server but not on another.
Thanks all

glusterfs over rdma ... not.
OK - finished some tests over tcp and ironed out a lot of problems.
rdma is next; should be snap now....
[I must admit that this is my 1st foray into the land of IB, so some
of the following may be obvious to a non-naive admin..]
except that while I can create and start the volume with rdma as
transport:

Some questions about theoretical gluster failures.
We're considering implementing gluster for a genomics cluster, and it
seems to have some theoretical advantages that so far seem to have
been borne out in some limited testing, mod some odd problems with an
inability to delete dir trees. I'm about to test with the latest beta
that was promised to clear up these bugs, but as I'm doing that,
answers to these Qs would be

mpd and radius
Hi all:
I ahve some basic questions regarding the mpd.conf:
set radius retries 3
set radius timeout 3
set radius server 192.168.128.101 testing123 1812 1813
set radius me 1.1.1.1
set bundle enable radius-auth radius-fallback
Here my radius server is 192.168.128.101 and interanl
interface of this mpd server is 192.168.64.65

[Bug 5124] Parallelize the rsync run using multiple threads and/or connections
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5124
--- Comment #12 from Paulo Marques <paulo.marques at bitfile.pt> ---
Using multiple connections also helps when you have LACP network links, which
are relatively common in data center setups to have both redundancy and
increased bandwidth.
If you have two 1Gbps links aggregated, you can only use 1Gbps using rsync, but
you could use 2Gbps if

Stale NFS file handle
Hi, I'm a bit curious of error messages of the type "remote operation
failed: Stale NFS file handle". All clients using the file system use
Gluster Native Client, so why should stale nfs file handle be reported?

/jon

Integrating R in OpenOffice
Hi All,
A group of about 3-4 of us are looking into the possibility of incorporating R
into OpenOffice's (OO) spreadsheet component (sc) . We wish to use OO's nice
ODBC ability to query a postgresql-based gene expression database thus
populating an OO sc and then use Bioconductor via R to analyse user-selected
parts of this spreadsheet.
We've looked at and compiled and used

temporal simulation
Hello,
I am new to R and was wondering if anybody would be able to advice me
on the following query. Is there any package available to generate a
mixed Poisson process, temporal data, using R? If anybody has
accomplished this before or has any advice I would appreciate it.

Comparing two gff/gtf files : de novo transcripts v/s reference
Hi All
I am wondering if people based on their experience could share what methods
one could use to compare two gff/gtf files. The reason why I want to do so
is that we have constructed a RNA-Seq based transcriptome and would like to
compare it with reference transcriptome we had from in-silico approaches.
Ideally we are looking to find out
1. new genes we see
2. transcripts where the

GlusterFS performance
Hello!
I have GlusterFS installation with parameters:
- 4 servers, connected by 1Gbit/s network (760-800 Mbit/s by iperf)
- Distributed-replicated volume with 4 bricks and 2x4 redundancy formula.
- Replicated volume with 2 bricks and 2x2 formula.
I found some trouble: if I try to copy huge amount of files (94000 files,
3Gb size), this process takes terribly long time (from 20 to 40 minutes). I

cannot create a new volume with a brick that used to be part of a deleted volume?
Greetings,
I'm running v3.3.0 on Fedora16-x86_64. I used to have a replicated
volume on two bricks. This morning I deleted it successfully:

Stopping volume will make its data inaccessible. Do you want to
continue? (y/n) y
Stopping volume gv0 has been successful

network copy performance is poor (rsync) - debugging suggestions?
Hi,
I do have two centos 6.6 servers. With a "performance optimized" rsync I
get an speed of 15 - 20 MB/s
The options I use are:
rsync -aHAXxv --numeric-ids --progress -e "ssh -T -c arcfour -o
Compression=no -x"
If I copy files by smb to/from the servers I do get 60 - 80 MB/s, a dd
(r/w) on the storages attached gives 90 MB/s on the 1Gbit ISCSI (Source
Server) and up to

kernel parameters for improving gluster writes on millions of small writes (long)
This is a continuation of my previous posts about improving write perf
when trapping millions of small writes to a gluster filesystem.
I was able to improve write perf by ~30x by running STDOUT thru gzip
to consolidate and reduce the output stream.
Today, another similar problem, having to do with yet another
bioinformatics program (which these days typically handle the 'short
reads' that

"Too many levels of symbolic links" with glusterfs automounting
I set up a 3.3 gluster volume for another sysadmin and he has added it
to his cluster via automount. It seems to work initially but after some
time (days) he is now regularly seeing this warning:
"Too many levels of symbolic links"
$ df: `/share/gl': Too many levels of symbolic links
when he tries to traverse the mounted filesystems.
I've been using gluster with static mounts
