Populating the samba/ldap database
I'm working on getting Samba3 running in a RHEL4 environment. The components are; samba3-3.0.28-35 openldap-2.2.13-8.el4_6.4 smbldap-tools-0.9.4-1.el4.rf I already have a working and functional ldap installation. The rub is that the existing ldap accounts do not have any samba specific attributes. Samba by Example assumes that I'm initially creating an ldap database, where the

Samba share mapped to a virtual directory via UNC within IIS doesn't work
I have a Samba share that I've created from a Linux box. I've mapped this sucessfully to drive in Windows 2003 server. I'm also able to read/write to it under Windows explorer just fine. It's using user security so I have to enter the username and password defined in the Linux box when connecting to this share. I then mapped a virtual directory under IIS to the UNC name of this

IIS Change Notifications
Good afternoon all, I'm a web developer (c#) who also manages a small hosting environment. Roughly, our configuration is: Two IIS7 (Windows Server 2008 Web) servers which share configuration data and site files from a SMB share located on a ubuntu server. The ubuntu server is currently running 3.0.28a which is quite old, but read on. We've been having a problem with the change

Sambas as fileserver for a IIS WebServer
Hi, Does anyone used a linux samba server as a fileserver for a Win2k, where the w2k is a loaded webserver using IIS? Or maybe a IIS Web Farm? I need a central storagepoint to my frontend webservers to centralize all the administration, backups, etc. Will the mount consume too much CPU in the win2k machines? And in the samba server? Will FP2000 work allright? There's any way to tell the

Samba server with IIS Clients
Does anyone out there have multiple IIS servers using a Samba server for a common file store? I'm trying to do just that and I'm having a hell of a time with permissions in Windows to get things like IIS publishing and Frontpage to work correctly. The Samba server is acting as the domain controller, which seems to work fine. Both IIS servers are members of the domain and both have valid

Massive Virtual Drive, is it possible?
I'm new to the world of linux, and I was wondering if you could help me out. There reason, I'm come over to linux, is to try and create a massive virtual drive, that I could attacth to my servers, and have them use it. Speed is not essential, but functionality is. There are not that many people logging onto the network, only about thirty, and there are no mission critical applications

Massive DNS queries to _kerberos._tcp.dc._msdcs.DOMAIN, COM.
Hi All, Our DNS admins are complaining about a massive number of DNS queries to : SRV? _kerberos._tcp.dc._msdcs.DOMAIN,COM. This is happening on thousands of systems. I see that every time the query is done, winbind updates /var/run/samba/smb_krb5/krb5.conf.DOMAIN (Ubuntu location). I found adding "create krb5 conf = no" stops the DNS queries and the updates to the krb5.conf.DOMAIN

mtext problem - grainy and massive file size
Hi Team, I'm on a mac, 0SX 10.5.6, R 2.7.2. I consistently make pairs plots and use mtext() to put labels on top of the plot in the outer margin. All of a sudden, this text has become really grainy in the final product and is making huge files. I have no idea why this has just started happening. The only thing I've done lately is install the new version of GIMP and run the script to

Massive increase in compilation time?
Today I upgraded Foreman on my Puppet master. Doing so also upgraded some ruby libs, which seems to have killed the performance of my puppet master. Before the upgrade, I was seeing compilation times of around 15s. After the upgrade, it''s 80-90s. What ruby modules or other configuration items would cause massive changes like this? I should note that none of my manifests changed
