Permission denied when opening certain files - NT_STATUS_NOT_A_REPARSE_POINT
Hi, I am experiencing a strange issue on our Samba PDC (3.0.24). Today I got called up by a user who was unable to open certain files from a samba share. He can open .doc, .xls, .pdf, etc. just fine, however, if he tries to open a .mdb file or an executable program from that share, he gets a permission denied message. Opening the same files from another user account logged into the same

Problems with Word 200 and Samba 2.2.6
I'm hoping someone has some insight into a problem I'm currenty having, which is: No one is able to edit (in place) documents with Word 2000 on a samba (2.2.6) disk share. A user can open word and save a document to the share, but when they go to edit the document Word says "Word cannot complete the save due to a file permission error". From Microsoft KB Q211632 it appears

strange: failing upload of special profile-dirs
Hi to everyone, Something quite strange occured to me this weekend as we wanted to switch our network to w2k ads structure with a sambaserver as main fileserver running winbind. The windowsprofiles are supposed to reside on the sambaserver and the client successfully loads the initial profile. The first time the user logs on to his machine, he gets some default .msi-softwarepackages assigned by

Adobe Photoshop problem with saving on Samba shares
We are experiencing problems with Adobe Photoshop and Samba, all versions up to 2.0.6. We run Samba off Compaq Alphaservers (ie 64 bit). Symptoms: 1) On doing a "Save As" in Photoshop, we intermittently get: "Could not save as F:\<filename> because the file is already in use or was left open". A zero length file is left on the Samba share. 2) Problem only

Win Xp logon issues
When I type the user name and password to logon onto our network (samba is the pdc) it takes a long time to login. How can I go about speeding this up? Is it a Win Xp issue or do I need to tweak samba? Also, when I login in to an XP machine I get a script (looks like some sort of logon script) that shows up in notepad on the desktop and stays there until I close it. What is this and how can I

problem with NT-4.0
Hello, we have a Linux box running Samba 2.2.7a and several clients running Windows NT 4 WS (last service pack) and Windows 95 (last service pack too). All clients are running a program made in ACU-Cobol for Windows and sometimes the NT machines abort the execution reporting a cobol blocking error. This usually results in broken indexes... We have traced the execution and haven't found the

Changing Windows passwords
Hi all, Is there a way to use the "encrypt passwords" and the "passwd chat" programs simultaneously? smb.conf(5) doesn't mention anything about them being mutually exclusive, yet when I run testparm on the smb.conf file, I get: ERROR: the 'passwd chat' script [...] expects to use the old plaintext password via the %o substitution. With encrypted passwords

Clients hang on file access - Samba 3.0.6
Hi all, I've included copies of the relavent files below. I'm having a bit of a problem with Samba in that when I try to access files on its shared resources, I can browse to the shares fine, but the moment I try to open a file, the client's file browser hangs. I've verified that this is a problem on both my Mac (OS X 10.3.4), my Windows XP SP2 and WIndows XP SP1 machines. I'm

Applciation cannot open a file
I'm running 3.0.28a on RHEL 4 U4. The problem I see is tied between an application running on winxp (Altiris Image Browser) and the samba server. The application says it is unable to open specific files. I've tried some things to resolve this. I set force user = root for the share in question. This should have fixed it, but it did not. I set chmod to o+rwx per file. I do not see this

Problem After Upgrade - NT_STATUS_FILE_IS_A_DIRECTORY
I'm running Samba 3.4.7 on Ubuntu 10.04. This is a recent upgrade and we've starting experience a sporadic problem after this upgrade. When users are browsing through Windows Explorer they sometimes run across folders that appear as unassociated files. This requires the user to click the 'Refresh' button in Windows Explorer to properly see the folders. The files and folders are

But I can copy and replace the file manually without a proplem. Running Samba 2.2.7-security-rollup-fix on Redhat 8 (upto date) Samba Logfile for Machine account is below. Any ideas?
