winbind is not taking default domain
Hi,
We have been running samba file server about 2 years without this problem. The problem appeared at the same time on our debian and centos servers. Not sure if it's related to any updates on our windows AD servers.

Centos 5.5

Access denied when accessing via hostname
Hi
I'm using Samba 3.6.3 on ubuntu 12.04 as a domain member with AD on Win
Server 2012.
My hare is configured like this:
valid users = @"EVSOFFICE.LOCAL+dangroup"
When I try to connect to a share via IP from Win7 (part of the domain) it
succeeds but when use host name \\node15 I can see shares but double-click
on share shows AccessDenied.
I'm trying to connect as

winbind stop working
Hi, I am trying to use squid proxy with validation on win 2003 active
directory to filter internet navigation and for it I installed an ubuntu
10.04 server 64 bit with samba.

to validate user, wbinfo report corret information and squid works good.
The problem arise after some hours: winbind become not able to resolv

AD Groups Failing to Authorize in Valid Users (does not start with S-)
For the last 3 weeks I've been working on getting RHEL4 (and 5, but
that's a different story) to play well with Active Directory, OpenLDAP,
Kerberos, PAM and NSS.
It's been a long struggle but I now have a process to authenticate and
authorize a RHEL4 client to a windows Active Directory server to that my
AD Users can log into my Linux boxes (assuming their group permissions

samba-4.1.19: resolving local unix group failes when there exists a local unix user with same name
Hi,
after upgrading samba from 4.1.17 to 4.1.19 on OpenSuSE 13.2, any shares offered by this machine can nolonger be accessed, when these shares contain an entry "force group" which specifies a local unix group and when there exists a unix user with the same name.
Here's an excerpt from smb.conf:

Vista SP1-rc1 appears to break against Samba-3.0.27a
We've got nicely ADS integrated Samba-3.0.27a servers that are working
fine with Win2000 through to standard Vista.
However, we are starting to test RC1 of Vista SP1 and discovered that
once applied, that workstation cannot connect to Samba server shares -
unless the share is open - i.e. no "valid user" style settings. The
moment one is defined, Vista fails to connect and pops up an

migrating from Samba 2.0 to Samba 2.2 (AIX)
hello,
I'm trying to migrate a rather simple configuration from a
Samba 2.0.6 to Samba 2.2.8 , on an AIX system.
smb.conf stays exactly the same & checked with testparm.
File sharing works fine again, but not printing : smbd meets an internal
error when a NT box tries to launch a print job.
Sample of logfile :

Samba 3.0.23c-1.fc5 problem - groups
Hi there,
I use FC5.
I discovered, for an exemple, if you have a user group with 3 members (Alan,
Baker, Clive), before 3.0.23c this line at smb.conf worked fine:
valid users = @user
But with 3.0.23c update it doesn't work anymore.
You have to replace the line like this:
valid users = Alan, Baker, Clive
I mean, replace the "@groupname" with the complete userlist of the

Volker,
Assume I have a member server named LINUX joined to a
domain name AD. Now assume I have a local user named foo
in my passdb and a user named foo in the domain as well.
I'm modifying winbindd_util.c:parse_domain_user() to do
a lookup_name() to try to figure out which domain to prepend
to the username rather than just assuming its a domain

valid users = +group doesn't work
Hi all,
I seem to be having a problem identical to this bug:
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3940 in Samba 3.0.28, however the
bug is supposed to be fixed by now.
I have a Fedora 7 box joined as a member to Windows 2003 domain. All my
Windows users have accounts on the Samba machine, with the same user name in
Windows and in Unix. I have a share with valid users = +group, where

Samba-3.0.23 problem
We had to power down all servers today for electrical maintenance in the
building and for some reason I began having access problems related to
the valid users lists when power was restored.
The dialog from the 'Samba-3.0.23 broke my network' thread seemed as if
it might be related even though I had not performed any software upgrade
so I tried adding the group mappings as discussed in

ADS groups and 'valid users'
I am attempting to get a Debian box running Samba 3.0.23d (latest from
debian testing) to work with our shiny new Windows 2003 server PDC.
I can join the domain.
windbinds various wbinfo commands return all the groups and users, as does
getent.
I can access everything from the PDC.
Effectively, everything works _except_ specifying a group to 'valid users'.
My smb.conf[0] is run of the

Problems with ldap groups in share folders ACCESS_DENIED
Hi I have been working all week with samba 3.4.7 in Centos 5.5
PDC(3.4.7) with LDAP backend+Centos 5.5(3.4.7) BDC with LDAP slave.
I already have 5 clients join.
1 Windows XP
1 Windows 7 UE
1 Centos 5.5 Desktop
1 Ubuntu 9.x
1 Centos 5.5
I can browse inside windows and see my clients, access some shares. I
want to create private shares inside my PDC, I use:

RE: Q: winbindd, unqualfied users, & name conflicts (a.k.a "Deathto 'winbind use default domain'!")
My opinion:
Local users should always take precedence.
People should specifically refer to local users as
<SambaHostName>\localuser, if that is the form the SMB client insists on
sending.
Tacking on default domains and/or stripping domains to/from user names
and "trying them out" is playing fast and loose with user identity and
is a breeding ground for potential security holes.

SOHO PBX using asterisk
Hi,
I'd like to build a personal PBX connecting 4 or 5 analogic phones with a
ADSL line and I'd like to know what is the right card I need
I visited digium site and I think TDM400 could be the right choice but I
cannot understand how it works...I think it has 4 slots where 4 modules
(FXS or FXO) can be inserted. How many cards do I need to connect my ADSL
line to 5 phones? I think I

Samba 3.0.23c panic
Hi,
I've just updated (using yum under fedora 5) to the latest version of
samba and am now encountering a major problem with samba. Whenever I
attempt to access shares (don't have printers or other such non disk
shares) the access fails (after prompting for password, and performing
some level of authentication, it notes if no password is entered that
Anonymous login successful).

samba breaks during user authentication after it was updated
Hello,
I am running samba on a machine running fedora 5. I did not know the system
was configured to automatically update the system via cron, and when it put
the new samba on last night, seems to have broken things. It is coredumping
now whenever a user tries to authenticate.
Our system is set up with user level security which i manage via smbpasswd
so there are no windows domains involved. The
