no backend defined for idmap config
Hello Samba List, I am currently running samba 3.3.2 joined to ADS and I am consistently getting this error in the winbind log: no backend defined for idmap config DOMAIN Also, I seem to lose association between user and uid. I think it happens when the winbind cache expires. Here's my smb.conf: [global] workgroup = DOMAIN realm = DOMAIN.COM server string = server

Sharing out unix home directory via samba
Hello Sharing out unix home directory via samba. Home directory is /home/% username% . However, samba insists on sharing this directory as /home/% domain%/%username% . So a user can see their home directory as server %username% from windows. But, when they click on it, they get an error and the samba log says that the share /home/%domain%/%username% doesn't exist. Thanks Regards, Komal

Hi All, I'm using samba 3.0.10-1 on RedHat Enterprise Linux 4. I'm authentication to our PDC using Winbind and also mounting our home directory share (from Windows) onto our main Linux server such that when a user logs on to the Linux server, their Windows home directory is mounted also. bad home path from AD
Thanks Rowland for you answer. I passed the idmap config UR parameter: unix_nss_info to yes and it works I work in university with a large number of users. The RIDs which I understand like the last digits of the SID are from 1000 to 300000 and uid from the LDAP are from 500 to 29009894. So I don't really know what to do with it ? I modify idmap to: idmap config * : backend = tdb

auth. username rewriting?
Hello, Now, I'm faced with a problem: I need to be able to login using the same username that I bind against using ldapsearch, and not the sAMAccountName given to me via winbind. ie. to login using one of my AD usernames right now, I issue: su - ADSDOMAIN+username1 but the binddn I use to search the ldap directory is, say, username2: ldapsearch -x -W -D"username2"

3.0.25 Winbind high CPU usage
I just upgraded from 3.0.23d to 3.0.25 and I'm noticing that winbind is chewing up a lot of CPU usage. There are always 2 winbindd processes and one uses about 80% cpu and the other use 15% cpu. When I run a tcpdump and look at the traffic going to/from the domain controller winbindd is connected to, there is a constant flow of traffic. Here is the winbind setup from my smb.conf file:

Slow, Incorrect Group Resolution through Winbind
Hello. I am observing some strange behavior on a Linux system that has joined a Windows Active Directory domain using the Samba suite. Our servers are based on Ubuntu v12.04 but have kernel v3.12.17 and Samba v4.3.6. The problem that I'm trying to understand is that group name resolution through Winbind occasionally fails. Here's an example where one group name could not be resolved. This

But there still seems to be some part of the install completed as I can run Softoken exe afterwards, although it gives me problems. I run the msi using: Code: wine start softoken/setup.msi And I get the

SAMBA ADS to NIS mapping
I am working in an environment with an HP-UX NIS that my Red Hat ES 4.x system is using for Unix access controls. My Red Hat system is serving as an NFS server for the HP-UX users who also could be Windows users coming from a Windows Server 2003 active directory. I have tested some configurations of SAMBA using winbind, but I don't get the results I want. What happens when using winbind
