Win 2000 client thrashes network when printing to samba printer
Hello all, To start off with, I will admit to being very much a samba newbie. Having said that, I set out on Friday to set up what I thought to be a very simple task. I wanted to share a HP inkjet printer off of an old laptop. I spent quite a bit of time on it and finally friday evening, I was able to get things working (I thought). Finally, test pages from all the clients printed

SAS Controllers
Hi All, first time post so please excuse any blunders We are specifying two servers using supermicro X7DBE+ MB and want to add on a SAS controller for Raid 10. We want to use the CentOS 4.4 X86_64 distro. We are currently considering an Intel CC SRCSAS144E SAS Raid Controller for the servers using 4 Fujitsu 147 GB SAS HDD, and a Adaptec SASC RAID 4805 8-port for the server using 6 Fujitsu

Questions on smbclient messaging
I'm running Samba v2.0.5a on a RedHat v6.0 system. This server provides SMB shares to Win98, OS/2 and Linux clients. Everything is running fine with the Win98 and OS/2 clients, but I have a few questions regarding Samba and Linux clients. 1. Is there a way for Linux systems to receive SMB messages? Something analogous to Windows' "WinPopup" or OS/2's "Network

tftp times out
tftp keeps timing out when I try to transfer files. I intend to use tftp with G4U to clone a standard workstation. I am testing it between two Dell poweredge servers running CentOS 4.3. "chkconfig --list |grep tftp" shows tftp up and running on both boxes. When connected "tftp>status" shows it is talking to the other box "tptp>trace" shows "sent WRQ

GRUB Timeout problem
I recently installed CentOS 5.1 on a DL71 ASI notebook. After my yum update the timeout parameter in /boot/grub/grub.conf file has no effect. It sits at the grub screen forever unless I press the enter key to select a kernel, at which point it will boot. Any help or suggestions to fix this would be much appreciated CentOS release 5.2 (Final) Kernel 2.6.18-92.1.18.el5 on an i686 # grub.conf

printconf
Does anyone know of a command line tool for printer configuration for CentOS 5. I have used "printconf-tui --Xexport > printers.xml" to copy my printer setup in CentOS 4.x (then Ximport to bring it back), but this no longer works in CentOS 5 and I would really like to retain this functionality. Can I re-install this tool or will it not work with the new CUPS? Is there an

Encrypted passwords and OS2/Win95/Win98
My LAN is running Samba v1.9.18p10 under RedHat Linux v5.2. Using the SMB services are Win95 and OS/2 clients. It's all running fine. I will soon be adding Win98, though, and I understand that there is a question of password encryption. I'm concerned how the encrypted/plain-text communication of password will affect my existing configuration. If I reconfigure Samba to use encrypted

Need help troubleshooting TCP thrashing, possible kernel bug?
I have a FreeNAS 9.3 server running Samba Version 4.3.6 and a bunch of Windows and Linux clients. Everything's been running fine for a while and nothing changed on the server. Recently (Jan 27th) some of the Archlinux clients updated from a 4.8.x kernel to a 4.9.x kernel. Again, things ran fine. Then on Jan 30th around 2am the Archlinux clients using 4.9.x kernels and utilizing mount.cifs to

rsnyc over ssh through scripting and cron...
hello all: I have two machines (approx 50 miles apart) that I need to create a co-located backup solution for. One machine will serve as a central fileserver for an office, and every week a backup of that directory will be sent through the internet to a box I have here locally. I am aware of rsync being able to run over SSH, however I need this to be totally automated (SSH opening, passwords

BUG dovecot and nginx
we have setup a two level proxy configuration for our zimbra server: [ dovecot 2.2.12 (imap proxy mode) ] V [ nginx (imap proxy mode) ] V [ zimbra imap server] and it does not work ... after tying a login, the connection just hangs and ends after 30 seconds with a timeout. - if I try again rightaway in the same dovecot connection, the login goes though without trouble.

Why a copy of smbd for each smbmount mountpoint?
When an OS/2 or Win9x client logs into a (Linux) Samba v2.0.6 server the running smbd spawns a copy of itself. That second instance of smbd then handles all the shares for that client machine. In contrast, a Linux client which does multiple smbmounts (also Samba v2.0.6) will cause the server to spawn a copy of smbd for *each* smbmount mountpoint. This has the potential for using up a lot more
