problem with using any_instance
Hey all, I have a question with using mocha in my tests. In the same test file, I have two tests, <code> def test_a klass.any_instance.stubs(:method_name).returns("something") klass.new.method_name ... end def test_b ... klass.new.method_name ... end </code> where klass is some class when the tests run, test _a passes, but test_b had an error like this:

stub_model() and ActiveRecord Associations
Hi all, I have what I thought was quite a simple requirement but something to do with the way ActiveRecord''s associations work is making it quite puzzling. I guess I can sum it up with this failing test: before(:each) do @source_comment = @source.comments.create(:user_id => 1) @target_comment = @target.comments.create(:user_id => 1) end

RailsExampleGroup
So I have a describe which is a subclass of RailsExampleGroup. I inserted some data into my database, and reconnect! my connection. Before reconnect, finding the data I just created is fine. The data cannot be found, after reconnection, the data is gone. It''s not in the database. It looks to me the data is not actually inserted into the DB at all, just somehow buffered somewhere. Would

should !=
I expected ''should !='' to act the same as ''should_not ==''. That turned out to be incorrect (by design?): require ''spec'' require ''spec/rails'' describe "using ''should !=''" do it "seems to treat != as the same as ==" do 1.should != 1 # passes 1.should != 2 # fails end end

Story HTML output
Hi, If I write the HTML format stories output to ~/ccrb_build-build_number/Stories/index.html. To get all styles rendered, I also need to copy /vendor/plugins/rspec/story_server/prototype/stylesheets/ and /vendor/plugins/rspec/story_server/prototype/javascripts/ to the ~/ccrb_build-build_number/Stories/. Just wonder is this the right way to do it? or there is a better/preferred way? Thanks Yi

How thorough do you test?
Testing models is great and would not be able to create anything without it, but I am finding testing the controllers and views is a pain. Rest based controllers don''t seem to change that much when compared to the auto-generated code that obviously works. As for views I fail to see why testing it with a mock model does anything. Nothing is ensuring that when changes are made to the

autospec is not picking latest changes
Hey Guys. I just updated a project form 1.1.4 that was working with autotest 3.10 without issues: 1) Updated spec/model/project_spec.rb and it fired only that spec. 2) Updated app/model/project.rb and it fired only the matching spec file. After the update of rspec and rspec-rails as plugins a few minutes ago, it only run the controller specs and no other. Also, it doesn''t matter which

Ordering in view specs using have_tag and with_tag
When writing view specs is there any way to test not only for the presence of tags (have_tag) and nested tags (with_tag), but also test that they appear in a given order? For example, consider the following: it ''should display the login names, display names and email address in alternating rows'' do response.should have_tag(''div.odd>div'') do

Testing render :text without has_text
A controller I''m trying to test simply delivers a text string to the client, which then demarshalls it to retrieve some objects. I want to test that the returned string is correct. I don''t want to compare the string character-by-character with response.has_text because that ties me to the implementation of the Marshall class. Instead, I just want to demarshall the string

How To Spec Controllers with Finders
Given this code (which renders rjs), I''m faced with the fixture- driven way of spec-ing or mocking. How the heck to you mock this so the code at line (2) and (4) work right? I''m still struggling with mocks but it seems like this can be done. Forgive the naivety of this question. 1. def change_quantity 2. @line_item = LineItem.find_by_id(params[:id]) 3. unless

How to test views with Nested Resources and Partials
Hi everyone, I am relatively new to rspec and I am running into a wall in testing my views. I have a RESTful resource Contracts with a nested resource of Line_items. I am trying to figure out how to test the "edit" form of the Line_items. What complicates this is the nested routing and how to account for it, and that there is a partial form (_form.haml) that both the edit.haml and

Do you think it would look cleaner?
I was looking over some of my specs. I was thinking that the following: @game.should_receive(:name).and_return(''The Battle for Blaze'') @game.should_receive(:people).and_return(5000000) @game.should_receive(:activated).and_return(true) Would it look cleaner if I could do this instead? @game.should_recieve_and_return( :name => ''The Battle for Blaze''

mocking methods in the controller.
Hi, I''m very new to rspec so please be patient with me. I''ve tried to take some of my tests out of the controller specs to check for things that are rendered. This has not worked so well, since my views have the controller method current_user in quite a few places. Is there any way that I can define this so that my views will be executed? Will this same thing occur for all

I''m really bad at controllers, help please.
Hey, Sorry for so many questions - I''m really bad at this right now. I''m trying to cover the following code w/ rspec def index if params[:user_id] @user = User.find(params[:user_id]) @messages = @user.messages end end So basically what I''m doing is listing all the messages for a user, provided there is an id parameter. describe
