mock_model not stubbing model attribtues in view spec
Hi -- I am just getting to grips w/ view specs, and am having an issue with mock_model not stubbing the mocked model''s attributes. For instance, I have the following: <CODE> before do @input_timesheet = mock_model( InputTimesheet ) assigns[:input_timesheet] = @input_timesheet end it "should display a table element" do render

Strange mock_model behaviour with ActiveResource model
Hi, I have two models in an app that inherit from ActiveResource::Base. The scaffold controller tests for one of the models works fine, but the other one dies when calling mock_model in the "handling GET /fa_codes" spec: Specifically, the call to mock model here: before do @fa_code = mock_model(FaCode) FaCode.stub!(:find).and_return([@fa_code]) end generates this failure:

Rails - Mock going out of scope?
Hello list, I think I have a rails related RSpec problem with a mock going out of scope on a recursive call to a model. The code is at: http://pastie.textmate.org/79821 if you want to see it highlighted. I have pasted it below as well. Basically, I have an acts_as_nested_set model called "Node", which works fine. I have a function which finds the language name of the node instance.

Mock with an attributes that has state
I''m developing a rails application. I have an Order model that has_many OrderItems. I mocked the OrderItem model in my Order specs using mock_model. I thought I should focus my specs on each model and always mock associated models. In my Order model I need a way to merge OrderItems which have the same cost and same product_id. That I can spec. The other thing this merge helper

Problems with raising errors on a mocked object
I''m trying to mock a object to raise a certain error. By doing so I get a ArgumentError on ActiveRecord''s save! method: http://pastie.caboo.se/85628 I''ve tried to debug it but just can''t seem to find what I''m doing wrong. Any help is greatly appreciated. Cheers, Eivind Uggedal

rSpec / Nested Routes / Mocks
I''m having a terrible time trying to test a nested route with rSpec. I can''t seem to tell rSpec to expect the call @item.user. The following error message plagues me not matter how I try to fuss with the mock: Spec::Mocks::MockExpectationError in ''ItemsController handling POST / items should redirect to the new course on successful save'' Mock

[RSpec] Error when returning multiple values from a stub
Hey guys. I''ve just found some odd behaviour within RSpec 1.1.12 , and would like to know whether this is a bug, or I''m doing something wrong. When I give multiple return values to a stub, like this: SubtitleFile.stub!(:new).and_return @sf1, @sf2 RSpec complains: Mock ''SubtitleFile_1001'' received unexpected message :size with (no args) However, if I

A Thread / Mock question
Hi! What I''m trying at the moment is to build specifications for some background thread code. What I want is a class Task and a class TaskRunner. The TaskRunner should run a task in a background thread. It should also indicate the status of the running task when calling the running? method. That''s basically, what I came up with so far: class TaskRunner def initialize

Does mock_model''s :null_object option work?
Please understand in the following that I am making relatively minor changes to legacy (non-TDD/BDD) code in Substruct and don''t have the time to refactor nicely right now. I''m just trying to get past the untested/un-speced cruft quickly to write the spec for my new code, so I''m looking for expediency over prettiness. I''m specifying before( :each ) do

authentication, controller specs. I think I''m missing something simple ....
Hi all, I feel like I''m missing something really easy and I''m just not seeing it. I''m using the restful_authentication plugin and have a User model. Uesr has_many :things and Thing belongs_to :user. That''s it. I did a "script/generate rspec_scaffold thing" to generate all the necessary bits. The "rake db:migrate" to create the db. At

Mock "Consent_6335" received unexpected message :marked_for_destruction? with (no args)
I have a mock object (Person) that is associated with another object (my_object) through a belongs_to association. When I check whether my_object is valid (my_object.should be_valid), I am getting an error like the following: Mock "Person_6338" received unexpected message :marked_for_destruction? with (no args) Checking the list of methods on the mock,

Edge, link_to and mocks
Hi All, Anyone noticed that using the newer link_to syntax in edge currently fails with mocked objects in view specs or helpers. eg. if you have something like the following in your view (or equivalent in a helper): <%= link_to @dog.name, @dog %> as opposed to the current 1.2 syntax: <%= link_to @dog.name, dog_path(@dog) %> Using a mock_model as the ''dog''

spec''ing views, mock_model associations
I writing a spec that returns the count of how many players in a game: it "should how many players in a link to all players" do render :partial =>"games/game", :object => @game response.should have_tag(''a'',"(2) Players") end I''m not sure how to do the mock model, I think it would be done two ways but unsure of the syntax: 1: add

How to properly mock a complex object "comment.initiator.group.name"?
I am wondering what is the best way to mock such expression: "comment.initiator.group.name" What I do now is: =========================== comment = mock_model(Comment) initiator = mock_model(User) group = mock_model(Group, :name => "Admin") initiator.stub!(:group).and_return(group) comment.stub!(:initiator).and_return(initiator) =========================== So it becomes

Need help mocking this out
Let''s say you''re using the restful_authentication plugin. You have a model called articles. On the index action of the articlescontroller you simply want to spec out that it''ll scope the results to the ownership of the current_user. It should NOT include any articles other than the articles that user owns. How would you properly spec this out? Thanks for the help!

[RSpec, Rails] POST create action spec and before_filter
2009-05-18 21:40, Florent Florent: > I have this controller: http://pastie.org/482270 > I wrote this spec: http://pastie.org/482273 There are a few spots which draw my attention. At spec line 4 you create a mock Page with #save that always fails (succesfull save returns true). Is that intentional? At line 9 you .and_return a value from a variable you don''t set anywhere.

mocking errors
What is the correct way to mock out the errors on a Rails model? I''m assuming i need to say @mock_thing = mock_model(Thing) @mock_thing_errors = mock("errors") @mock_thing_errors.should_receive(:full_messages).and_return("An error") @mock_thing.should_receive(:errors).and_return(@mock_thing_errors) Just wanted to check the best practice on this kind of thing and how

Mock_model not recognizing act_as_mappable
I am using mock_model in my tests, and I encountered a situation where my stub is failing. Here''s the scenario: Controller: @locations = Location.al(:bounds=>bounds)l @locations.sort_by_distance_from([bounds.center.lat,bounds.center.lng]) Rspec: @location = mock_model(Location) Location.stub(:all).and_return([@location])
