Intermittent "can''t convert Float into Hash" and results.rb
Hi, I''m using backgroundrb 0.2.1 in a production environment and for most parts I''m very happy. We are using it to do some heavy video editing on the server side and it works great except that under, what seems heavy load the below problem happens intermittently. The problem has only happened 5 times out of over 500 runs by our backgroundrb worker. This is the code in our

Mousehole stuff
Hey everyone, I''m using mousehole for the first time today (love the artwork, btw) and I seem to be having problems with Camping and Markaby. When I go to the Apps page I get: Camping Problem! MouseHole::Controllers::RApps.GET TypeError /Users/tzaharia/Sites/mouseHole/lib/mouseHole/views.rb:78:in `+'': can''t convert String into Array:bla bla bla... The line in question

Cannot connect when spawning new workers on demand
Hi! I''m using the latest&greatest backgroundrb with rails 2.0.2 on ubuntu dapper. I''ve made an app that lets you run a query on several servers at once, which are selected at runtime. Therefore, for each server that is selected, I spawn a new worker and assign its work. After everything is completed, the workers are deleted. I often get this error:

Session access interfers with other model access
Sorry to be such a bother but I''m not getting this. I have two models: Emrec and Session (I''m using AR for session mgmt.) In my worker I can access the Emrec model and delete a record, AS LONG AS I don''t try to access the Session model. With the Session model access commented out as below, the Emrec record gets deleted. If I uncomment those lines, the Emrec

Forward of moderated message
OK I know whats happening. Your while loop completes and calls kill on the worker before your task_progress controller method ever gets called> So the worker is deleted and when you try to access it from rails you get an error because there is no longer a worker at that job key. The kill method is meant to be used within a worker that you fire and forget. If you want to get the

Logwatch
Having FC3 systems and utilizing Dovecot, I have come to rely on some of the information I get from the daily logwatch run. Logwatch, by default, doesn't properly recognize dovecot's information in the messages file, but it is easy to tweak. The patch below will give you some statistics regarding POP3 and IMAP usage. I believe I grabbed all of the differences in the unified diff

Incorporate graphic files into R-package
Hi, I am working on a package which will be used to generate reports using Sweave. The createReport() function should create a folder and Rnw/tex-files automatically. The reports should, however, also feature the company logo. I don't want to have to manually copy the image file into the folder each time a report is created. I don't know if it is possible or not but I would like to

[PATCH] xen/build: Remove hacked up version of figlet
This hacked up version of figlet contributes a supprisingly large proportion of the Coverity issues found under xen/ (and therefore attributed against Xen) Figlet can be found in all distros, so make use of it. We keep xen.flf (being the Xen figlet font) and replace the hacked up octal transform with a short python script. The Xen Makefile has been tweaked in such a way that it still prints the

do_work and long running rails tasks?
Hi there I have some long running queries against a nice litte database (20 million new records per day) that I have offloaded to backgroundRB. The trouble is, that backgroundrb seems to be blockin on Model.find calls. Here''s the code --- worker.rb -- def do_work(args) @rows = [] @percent = 0 @host = Host.find( args[:id]) ips = @host.ipaddresses step

Please help with 2 (related?) problems
Hi All, I was able to get the BackgrounDrb plugin installed, and even got the example progress bar working. So far so good. But now that I''m trying to do something a little more real, I''m getting stuck. The first problem I''m getting is that the background task seems to be getting terminated by Rails. In any case, I am getting the following error as the first thing

Mongrel + BackgrounDRb + File Column = Upload Progress Bar?
Hi there, I''ve been digging around trying to find some information (mostly examples) on how one would handle a progress bar upload using BackgrounDRb and File Column. I did read http://backgroundrb.rubyforge.org/ and Ezra''s blog of course, but I still have a few questions. I made a simple upload form (as a test) that is submitted to the "upload_song" action. def

5.9 logwatch yum filter broken
After the upgrade to CentOS 5.9, all my CentOS 5 installations report only "Unmatched Entries" in the "yum" section of their daily logwatch mails. It seems the filter script /usr/share/logwatch/scripts/services/yum got broken: --------8<--------8<--------8<--------8<--------8<--------8<--------8< [root at dns01 ~]# /usr/sbin/logwatch --print --service yum

Quote the path of graphics output in Sweave when it contains spaces
Hi, I'm aware of the definition of a "valid filename" in .SweaveValidFilenameRegexp, but I think it might be better to quote the filename when it contains spaces instead of just giving a warning. This should bring us safer LaTeX code (although I never use spaces in paths). Here is the simple patch: Index: src/library/utils/R/SweaveDrivers.R
