Spec::Rails, "model.should have(1).error_on(:attribute)" passes when?
Spec::Rails people, I''m curious about: - model.should have(1).error_on(:attribute) displayed in the URL below: http://rspec.rubyforge.org/rspec-rails/1.2.2/classes/Spec/Rails/Exten... The Rspec peepcode screencast suggests that model.should have(1).error_on(:attribute) should pass if model.send(:attribute) returns nil For me, I get an exception from the rspec script. My work-around is

error_on is deprecated?
The docs say DEPRECATED. See Spec::Rails::Expectations model.should_have(:no).errors_on(:attribute) model.should_have(1).error_on(:attribute) model.should_have(3).errors_on(:attribute) However the rdoc for Spec::Rails::Expectations shows the same code. The only difference is that it''s "model.should have(1).error_on(:attribute) instead" So is error_on itself deprecated, or is

Rspec weird behaviour
Hi, I recently migrated from classic rails testing to Rspec, so I am pretty new to the framework and still learning. I am getting weird errors on an ActiveRecord model test, here is the basic class model definition: class Size < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :quantities, :dependent => :destroy validates_presence_of :name validates_uniqueness_of :name, :case_sensitive => false end

removing Mocha; 'spec spec' fails but the specific model file passes
I happened to mix ryan bates'' authentication scaffold with rspec_scaffold on a demo project. and ran into the problem of mixing mock frameworks...ryan uses mocha. So, as a learning experience, I choose to redo ryan''s tests without mocha but ran into a strange problem with tests of the User model. With debugging you can see.... If you run just the user_spec.rb file, everything

Change in isolation behaviour 1.08 - 1.10 ?
Hi, I just moved from 1.08 to 1.10 and now have one example failing, which, under 1.08, passed. Is the due to a change in behaviour? Here''s my spec (removed some passing examples) require File.dirname(__FILE__) + ''/../spec_helper'' describe "A user" do before(:each) do @user = User.new @valid_user = User.new( :email =>

How to spec a model method
Still new to Specs... How do I create a spec to test a model method? Specifically, here is my spec: #testing model describe User do it "should have many user roles" do User.reflect_on_association(:user_roles).should_not be_nil end it "should have many roles though user roles" do User.reflect_on_association(:roles).should_not be_nil end it "should know

Plugin Panic! - no accessing a model''s class methods?
Hi plugin-authors. So this is a little bit of take two on this question, but why can''t I access a singleton on the model calling my plugin? The crux of the full plugin below is: #logger.info self.class.to_s new_copy = self.class.new( @copyable_attributes ) the logger spits out "Datatype", but I get an error from rails saying: undefined method `datatype'' for

Plugin - How to access object from instance method
Quick question: Given a basic plugin... how can I access an object that I instantiated in the acts_as method from an instance method? Probably some sort of accessor... but where? def self.included(base) base.extend ClassMethods end module ClassMethods def acts_as_test object = Object.new ## This object needs to be accessible from the Instance Methods end include

"include" versus "extend" - what's the difference
Hi, Just wondering when one would use "include" over "extend"? Both seem to bring in methods to the class no? The context is I''m just trying to understand why both are used with the acts_as_audited plugin: Full extract from plugin (used within here): ================================================== # Copyright (c) 2006 Brandon Keepers # # Permission is hereby

Mocking Access Control
I''m trying to jump on the TDD/BDD bandwagon, but am having trouble understanding how i should mock my user. The user has a habtm relationship to a roles model (acl_system2 plugin), but I''m not sure how to tell rspec about a model. My code: describe UsersController do integrate_views before(:each) do @user = mock_model(User)

How can I dynamiclly generate models?
I am trying to write a plugin, ''acts_as_commentable'', for my models - Image, Book, Music and so on, I do not want to use polymorphic association, so very model should have its own comment class. Problem with mocking a simple has_many relationship
Hi there all. Sorry if the question sounds silly but i''m rather new at the ''mocking'' stuff... Spec for validation plugin
Hi, I''m writing a specification for a model called Location which has a post_code attribute which should be a valid UK postcode. I''m using the http://svn.designbyfront.com/rails/plugins/validates_as_uk_postcode/ validates_as_uk_postcode plugin to handle the validation but I''m not sure how I should properly specify my model. unexpected failures with --reverse
I''m having trouble figuring out why one of my specs passes when run without --reverse and then fails with --reverse. What am I missing? I''m using the plugin versions of both rspec and rspec_on_rails 0.9.2. RSpec/Webrat Checking output is properly escaped
I want to test that the JSON response from a create action is sanitized properly, but rspec or webrat appears to be parsing the output into proper HTML chars instead of escaped characters. I have verified that it escapes properly in the regular browser json response. The relevant RSpec test code is: include ActionView::Helpers::TextHelper include ActionView::Helpers::UrlHelper it

Ruby, Rails & Inheritance
