how do I spec my Rails routes?
Once again, here''s something I haven''t figured out. Apologies if this is too newb-ish, but, how do I spec my routes using RSpec-Rails? In particular, I''ve got a catch-all route that needs to catch a wide variety of URLs: map.document ''*url'', :controller => ''documents'', :action => ''show'' Is there a way to

CanCan issue when being very specific
So I got CanCan and Devise working well. I have two types of users: Admins and Nonadmins. Admins can edit all of Nonadmins profiles. The problem is, every user (either Admin or Nonadmin) belongs to an Account or Organization. Admins should only be able to edit users from their own Account or Organization. I was able to do that too. The problem is, I can''t display the Create New User

path vs. url
When using named RESTful routes, when should one use the generated ..._path helpers, and when the ..._url helpers? Say I did this in routes.rb: map.resources :users Where should I use users_path, new_user_path, etc., and where should I use users_url, new_user_url...? Thanks! Un-recognised routes that do exist, using namespaces & subdomain checking
I''m getting really cheesed off with RSpec not matching some of my routes when controller testing when I have subdomain checking (courtesy of subdomain-fu) on namespaces. These routes appear in the rake routes output, and work fine via HTTP requests . The really annoying thing is it''s working fine for routes that aren''t at the root of the namespace. E.g. say I have

spec''ing shared controller methods
I want to isolate and spec methods that are shared by controllers, and live in application.rb. Whereas I usually also provide examples in individual controllers that use these methods, not necessarily all the edge cases and I''d like to isolate the examples. This is the approach I''m taking (thanks to bryanl for suggestions and http://pastie.caboo.se/123626). WDYT? This

Global before blocks - filtering by multiple types
Hi in the config block of rspec I have a before block to reset my database before each spec: config.before(:each) {DatabaseCleaner.clean} I know I can apply this before to a specific type, e.g. config.before(:each, :type => :model) {DatabaseCleaner.clean} but what I want to achieve is that the database is cleaned for all specs except acceptance specs. Is there a way to define this, e.g.

Need help in View Spec
Hello everyone: I am kind of puzzled in writing spec on view partials. I can not find much information about the "should have_tag" syntax in Rspec. Can rspec test a particular attribute of a tag (e.g. input tag)? Let me put an example here: #../view/group/_index <div id="test"> <input type="button" value="update" onclick="update()"

specing helpers fails on restful routes
Hi, I am trying to spec helper methods in a Rails project, but it seems the specs fail with the error: You might have expected an instance of Array. The error occurred while evaluating nil.<< if the restful routes helper are used either in spec files, or the helper file. What can I be doing wrong? Or how can I fix this. Thanks! -- Surendra Singhi http://ssinghi.kreeti.com,

Restful routes, not repeating yourself and non-standard rest actions best practices
So I''ve recently started playing with the restful routes support in edge rails, converting a few of my controllers to support all the standard operations.. One thing that''s been bothering me, however, is the following: Before using restul routes, I would define an edit method in my controller which would be responsible for both creating new objects as well as editing

Specifying RESTful Routes
What would be the proper way to specify this route? ActionController::Routing::Routes.draw do |map| map.resource :recipes end Would the specification go into recipes_controller_spec? Also, what methods are available for testing RESTful routes (i.e. GET, POST, PUT, DELETE)?

Composite Keys on RESTful Routes
I am building an app with existing controllers/actions, using traditional rails routes. I recently started moving over to RESTful routes and have hit a snag. Now I am reconsidering my whole effort and may go back to the original, more flexible, map.connect method. My problem is, one of the resources has composite keys. The keys are both strings as well, and can include dots. Here''s

Using RESTful routes in controller tests
Why can''t I use the RESTful route helpers in my specs? In my controller I''m doing a redirect: redirect_to list_path(:id => @item.list_id) Now when I write: controller.should_redirect_to list_path(:id => 2) I''m getting the following error: NoMethodError in ''POST on /lists/2/items should redirect to index on succesful POST'' You have a nil object

Testing RESTful routes
Hi all, The app I am making right now uses restful routing entirely. I want to prevent people from accessing my actions without the proper HTTP verb so I commented out the :controller/:action/:id catch all routes that were used in pre-RESTful Rails apps. Like so: #map.connect '':controller/:action/:id.:format'' #map.connect '':controller/:action/:id''
