Dovecot should raise the limit of file descriptors at startup...
We've run into a situation where the Dovecot master process "dovecot" runs out of file descriptors on Solaris 10 since the default is only 256: # plimit 1 1: /sbin/init resource current maximum time(seconds) unlimited unlimited file(blocks) unlimited unlimited data(kbytes) unlimited unlimited

tdb locking issue - Solaris 10 and Samba 3.0.33
(Yes, I should upgrade Samba to 3.0.35). We're running the Sun provided Samba daemon (SUNWsmbau and friends) on Solaris 10 Generic_138888-08 (sparc). Lots of Windows clients (mixed XP, 2003, 2008) hit this server and periodically we'll start seeing smbd processes begin piling up. These processes can't be killed with a normal kill -- only kill -9 will do the trick. In the past

ssh/sshd go off in limbo-land after closing remote session (v2.9.9p2)
When I run a remote xterm, the ssh hangs even after I quit the xterm. Below is the output for the following sequence: client> ssh -v -v -v dazel xterm xterm> exit client> ^C The outcome is always the same - the ssh doesn't exit with I quit the xterm... I have to hit CTRL-C on the client side. polycut:~> ssh -v -v -v dazel xterm OpenSSH_2.9p2, SSH protocols 1.5/2.0, OpenSSL

nss_winbind problem
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Well, I think this is not the only time you guys ever seen that kind of mails. First of all, I did checked all that is to be checked before writing to list. wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g work flawless. Also wbinfo -a, so I can authenticate without problems. The setup is a normal trust setup where domain X (my domain) trusts domain Y (another company).

syslinux fails to make a bootable USB stick in Slackware64-14.1 installer
Running "syslinux -s /dev/dsb" during installation of Slackware64-14.1 (to make a bootable USB stick) fails like this: Error converting to codepage 850 Invalid argument Cannot initialize 'S:' Bad target s:/ldlinux.sys syslinux: failed to create ldlinux.sys But running the same command in the installed system succeeds. In both cases we are using syslinux-4.0.6 (same syslinux

Superfluous error msgs: "failed to set times ..."
When rsync'ing to an Ext2 file system (via SSH), then I frequently get error messages such as "failed to set times ...". AFAICS, these error messages are caused by rsync trying to change the time (and permissions, ownership) of symbolic links, which according to my knowledge is not possible on Ext2. Is there any way to get rid of these supposedly superfluous error messages? rsync

[PATCH] arm: Remove a superfluous 's' suffix from the cmp instruction
The 's' suffix on the cmp instruction is deprecated and superfluous since the cmp instruction always sets conditional flags. No such file or directory - but it is there.
I have a problem when installing applications from a Samba share. I have been using this share for sometime with no problems, but now after installing 3.0.6 I have an issue. Most applications I have work fine, only three are suspect. OfficeXP, will start the install but it stops with the error, installation source has been corrupted. The Samba log show it is looking for the file

superfluous distribution found with mclust
Dear R users, I use mclust to fit a mixture of normal distributions to many datasets. Usually the Mclust function finds 1 or two normal distributions, rarely, 3. But I hit a strange case today. my.data <- c(57.96920, 51.79415, 51.20538, 55.53637, 51.64291, 56.61476, 51.28855, 55.56169, 51.85113, 54.03330, 51.37370, 49.48561, 52.41580, 53.51176, 60.49293, 55.77012, 51.59270, 56.29660,

is this null block OK?
Hi, A system running ext3 crashed this afternoon (nothing to do with ext3, bad network driver). Is was saving a file from emacs when it happened. The file system is 0.06b and had ordered data as the mount option. Let me emphasize this was running ext3 pure, not with SnapFS or InterMezzo layered on top of it. strace reveals that Emacs does open("existing file name", O_TRUNC |
