Limit of c() length?
Hello,
I am running the debian derivative gnewsense lemote (mipsel
architecture) on a lemote yeeloong notebook. It appears that entering
long vectors into R using the c() command is not accepted. R outputs the
"+" symbol, which normally asks for additional syntax to finish the
code. R accepts the vector in smaller pieces using c() and accepts the
complete vector in debian squeeze (i386

Dovecot namespace solved while writing; preparing to refilter
Hi!
My plea to readers:
===================
Pls., people who only want strictly technical issues to read, and frown
at any
broader context regardless how intrinsically related, but not strictly
technically related, it might be, skip all the way, all the way to,
search for
exact words: "strictly technical" or visually, find two lines of sole
"==="
characters. Thank you!

Creating thumbnail on the fly
I was doing some research about creating thumbnail images on the fly
after an image has been uploaded in a form, but for some reason it''s not
working for me. I''ve downloaded ImageMagick 6.2.5 for Mac but when I run
a test (identify image.gif) it gives me this error:
dyld: Library not loaded: /sw/lib/libjpeg.62.dylib

Drawing a loess line
Dear all,
To draw a lowess line on a plot was a piece of cake; to draw a loess
line, however, seems not that easy. Is the loess plotting implemented
at all in relation to the loess function, or do I have to look in
add-on packages?
Thanks,
Marcin

Q about strsplit and regexp
Dear R-help,
This one is probably a piece of cake for regexp masters. I'd like to split
a character vector (for simplicity, say of length one for now) that contains
fields that are delimited by arbitrary number of white spaces (e.g., " a b
c "). How do I get the character vector that contain the fields? In the
example I gave, I've tried:

audio message delivery
Hi, I have a client who has asked me to look into the delivery of 30
second audio messages to a list of opt-in customers. Probably looking at
about 5,000 messages a week over a 6 week period.
I know that this would be a piece of cake to have someone develop but I
thought I would ask here first if someone is already doing this and what
they would charge to take this on as a hosted solution

New tutorial: DTMF tone detection
Hello list,
I have prepared a small tutorial today that deals with how to avoid
Asterisk rebuilding DTMF tones when using it to connect industial
appliances that use DTMF. You can find it at:
http://astrecipes.net/index.php?n=248
I know it isn't everybody's piece of cake, but I thought somebody could be
interested as well :)

require metaparameter and gems
I tried to install the ''mongrel'' gem tonight via puppet in an attempt to
migrate from webrick to mongrel as described on the puppet site[1]. I
added the following to my manifest:
package {
"rubygems":
ensure => installed;
"mongrel":
ensure => installed,
provider => gem,
require => Package["rubygems"];

RHOME
R-help --
I built R-2.2.1 in my own directory on a sun (solaris). Now I would like
the sysadmin to move the contents to /usr/local/lib and place the binary
in /usr/local/bin. No problem. However, the RHOME variable defaults to
the directory from which R was built so it is not usable by anyone but me
or ROOT. I would like to avoid building this again if possible. Any ideas?
Thanks,

New Beginner: Problems w/loading Matrix package
Hello all,
I am 2 days old in compiling and installing R-1.3.1 and having all kinds of
problems with one particular package named "Matrix_0.3-15.tar.gz"
Where should I start?
OK!
I have successfully installed R version R-1.3.1 as well as a host of other
packages (piece of cake). When I tried to install the Matrix package, I

NSD reload
Hi there!
I remember reading that you cannot reload new zone files on the fly and require a full restart of the nsd daemon? We are evaluating multiple DNS servers that have better performance comparing to bind, but will require quite heavy zone reload (new and existing) every 10 minutes or so. Downtime (even 1-3 secs) is not the option. Thanks!

About snapshots or versioned backups
This may be a bit poorly thought through but in this case I don''t
really know enough to really think it through.
My back ground is linux... there I used a tool called rsnapshot which
used rsync and some hardlink magic to create versioned backups. But
take very little space.
By versioned I don''t mean as in version control but just copies of
files as they change.
It worked by

If Wine isn't am emulator how does it work
Sorry about this noob question, but this is something that has been boring
me. So Wine is a compatibly layer that tricks windows based apps into
working on Linux. But isn't that what an emulator does? I know emulators
more typically visualize the hardware which uses more recesses, but there
are also high level emulators which just create the environment.
isn't any software that tricks a
