using mongrel on port 80
Just so you know, I''ve read the manual :)
http://mongrel.rubyforge.org/docs/choosing_deployment.html
No php or ssl needed - that is me - simple. So I should be good to go
but thought I''d ask. BTW, sorry about the stupid subject. Listening to
BNL, you know ;)

Mongrel Service 0.3.0, native services for you!
Hi folks,
For the past weeks I have been working in solve the problems with
mongrel_service and its *crazy* behavior related to standard
mongrel_rails.
Job made this more slow than usual, but here we are: a beta release.
* What''s New?
- This version of mongrel_service replaces mongrel_service ruby script
with a binary, pre-built executable coded using ServiceFB framework

Graceful stop in, timeouts out (for now)
Hey Luis,
Just implemented the first cut at a graceful stop setup. It seems to mostly
work except for a few hicups here and there which I''ll test out. I''ve
tested this under OSX and will test on the other platforms soon.
To use it take a look at the examples/simpletest.rb and see how I setup an
"INT" handler to call HttpServer.stop.
Hopefully this will help with

Temporary win32 gems up.
Hey,
I did some pre-compiled gems for both Mongrel and win32 service, wrote some
quick instructions, and threw everything onto a (Mongrel hosted) temp site.
Please go hit:
http://zedshaw.homelinux.org:3000/files/win32_howto.html
And give the instructions a shot. Luis should have the stuff moved around
and then we''ll have a nice clean install and set of instructions for all
this.

Mongrel as Win32 service for a camping app?
As subject line, basically...
http://mongrel.rubyforge.org/docs/win32.html describes how to install
Service
support for Mongrel on Win32. But it seems to be focussed on providing a way
of running Rails apps.
If it is possible at all, can you provide hints or refer to documentation
that
explains how to run apps that use other frameworks, like Camping, as
Services
please? Is it written up online,

Test out the upcoming plugins stuff for me
Hi folks,
I''ve been working on the plugins system this weekend and I think I''ve nailed
it down. The system will basically be able to load gems that are configured
right to be plugins. It''ll do it fairly dynamically and shouldn''t require
any configuration from the end user other than to install the gem.
Doing this though will involve a bit of surgery on the

Checked mongrel_rails_service drafts
Ok, I have checked in the first draft of rails win32 service into examples
mongrel_rails_service is the controller, and the _svc script is
actually the service.
The controller uses Mongrel Commands as requested by Zed, but the
service was simplified for debugging purposes, later will merge and
refactor both files.
The environment defaults to production, so if wanted to run it on
other, you must

processor affinity
Hello,
i am running CentOS 5.4. i have a requirement where i need to have 1
application have a single processor all to its self, and the rest of the
system run on the other processors. "taskman" lets me bind the process
to a processor(s), but it does not make it exclusive. Is this possible
to do? i have even tried mucking around with the rc.sysinit, but to no
avail.
thank you very

Introduce myself.
Hello mailing list!
(Ehhh, that sounds a bit silly, don''t you think?)
Anyway, I''m glad that Zed allow me contribute to this project.
Been using Ruby and Rails for half-year and lot of things I have
learned running on win32 arena, that I wanted to share with everybody.
As previously post on ruby-talk by Zed, I will create the scripts that
made posible run mongrel as services

OptimizedMutex for Mongrel
Hey Zed-
I had a user with an app that was leaking memory with mongrel but
not lighty/fcgi. I have been doing anything I can to track it down. I
already did the Mutex patch to use unshitf and pop instead of shift
and push and it didn''t really help much. The mem leak only really
shows up when you use the wsess option to httperf.
The other day I saw a ruby C extension that

0.3.7 release this weekend
I''m doing another 0.3.7 release this weekend which will roll in changes from
Luis for the win32 service, and some enhancements to the mongrel_rails Unix
runner which makes it behave better with switchtower.
There''s also a new document on setting up a proxy with lighttpd to do simple
clustering on the site:

Mongrel 0.3.13 Update -- Code Review, Code Coverage
Hey Folks,
I''ve been holding off the official 0.3.13 release so that Luis can get
the win32 side very nice and clean. We fixed a major problem last night
so it''s only a short time before we get it out. Luis is working really
hard on it, so just be patient.
In the meantime, I''ve been doing a code audit of the Mongrel code as it
is now and fixing any little things I

mongrel on windows, cpu affinity
hello list!
on the websites win32 howto it says
>
> CPU Affinity
>
> Mongrel''s win32 support actually is able to set the CPU affinity of a running Mongrel service. This is pretty neat since it means if you''re running a fancy SMP machine or a dual core that pretends to be SMP, then you can force Mongrel onto one of them and get a nice little boost.

Mongrel wiki?
Dear Mongrels,
The same questions keep coming up over and over on the list, which is
ok, but not really optimal. If we added a wiki to the Mongrel site to
handle FAQs, what wiki should it be?
Required features would be:
* Spam protection
* Doesn''t look shitty
I would probably spring for Trac (and also migrate the bugtracker) if
noone else has opinions, but I''m sure some of

TST is right out
Hi Zed,
I checked in a pure-Ruby URI classifier to Mongrel trunk. Ola''s Java
port of the TST had some bug, and I don''t think it''s necessary in the
first place. The Ruby classifier is around 25 lines instead of the
400-odd lines for the C extension and the 200-odd for the Java
extension. It uses a Regexp which is perhaps shady:
@matcher = Regexp.new(routes.map do

Review of Code for 1.9
Hello Guys,
I''m reviewing the code for 1.9, and forgot about this when we first
spoke on this subject.
The current way we stop threads is using Thread#raise to spread
StopServer exception, which will not work as expected in 1.9.
1.9 will treat raised exceptions as #kill, like JRuby does, so the
worker threads will not finish serving the client and _then_ exiting,
but will be

1.9
Hey so,
People are asking about Mongrel Ruby 1.9 compatibility. Isn''t the
point of 1.9 for library developers to have time to get ready for 2.0?
It''s not like 1.9 is a production release.

no log/mongrel.log file on win32, looking for suggestions...
Hello Mongrels around the world!
Been thinking a way to unify the issue I described in the subject.
For those who aren''t aware, mongrel (actually, mongrel_rails) only
generate the log file if daemonize was used (-d)
That means no log file under windows, due his lack of
fork/daemonization capabilities.
Now, users that need to run mongrel on windows cannot report and fill

Win32 release coming?
Hi there
what''s the status of the 0.13.4 release on Windows? I want to wrap up
a project in the next 2 weeks and I''d wait for the new release if
it''s coming in that timeframe. Otherwise I''d stay with the current
windows version.
thanks
