Pluralized Controller Names?
If I do:
script/generate controller Photo
I get a controller named photo_controller. OTOH, if I do:
script/generate scaffold Photo
I get a controller named photos_controller. (Note that the controller
name is pluralized).
I realize that I''m specifying the controller name explicitly in the
first case, but it seems
odd to me that the scaffold command generates a pluralized

scaffolding generators and pluralization rules
I''ve been working through the "Rolling with Ruby on Rails" tutorial and have come up against something I''m hoping someone here can help me understand.
In part two of the tutorial, Curt introduces the "ruby script\generate scaffold re

Problems with ./scripts/generate scaffold
Hi all,
I''m new to rails after having used perl for most of these things, and am
trying to get my head around the generate script for a project playing
around
with.
If I do:
./scripts/generate controller Device
I get app/controllers/device_controller.rb
where I can then add:
scaffold :device
However, if I want to actually generate the scaffolding so I can make
some changes:

ez-where headscratch
Hi there,
I''m puzzled by this apparently simple query I can''t manage to reassemble
using ez_where plugin.
cond = Caboose::EZ::Condition.new :my_table do
start_on < Time.now
any {end_on > Time.now; end_on.nil?}
end
I keep getting the following result :
>> cond.to_sql
=> ["my_table.start_on < ? AND (my_table.end_on > ?)", Tue May 23

Help me replace a for loop with an "apply" function
...if that is possible
My task is to find the longest streak of continuous days a user participated
in a game.
Instead of writing an sql function, I chose to use the R's rle function, to
get the longest streaks and then update my db table with the results.
The (attached) dataframe is something like this:
day user_id

2008/11/01 2002

[OT] Sqlite2 question
So, under Sqlite2, if I want to update a database''s schema, I have to
dump the DB, modify the table''s structure, then go and modify EVERY
insert statement.
The insert statements look like (from memory):
INSERT INTO my_table VALUES (''some_id'', ''some_val'', '''', '''', '''',
''some_other

belongs_to with foreign keys that reference non primary key columns
Hello,
I have a situation where the foreign key into a table doesn''t
correspond to that table''s primary key:
my_table
-------------
id (pk)
name
...
other_table
--------------
id (pk)
my_table_name (fk references my_table(name))
...
I want to be able to say something like:
class OtherTable < ActiveRecord::Base
belongs_to :my_table, :foreign_key => { :my_table_name

Using Ruby on Rails with existing database
Hi, I''m a complete newbie to this, I''m afraid. Apologies if this has
been answered elsewhere, but I''ve had a look, and can''t find the
answers I''m looking for, especially for using Rails 2.0.
We have an existing database which we would need to connect Rails to,
and the database structure is not what Rails would seem to expect.
Firstly, tables are not

Newbie Problems with pluralization
Hi,
I have a many to many relationship incorporating the following tables:

I have a model named tax with the following declaration:
has_and_belongs_to_many :tax_groups
and I have a model named tax_group with the following declaration:
has_and_belongs_to_many :taxes
I am attempting to run the following unit test:

scaffold generator, pluralization and tutorials
Hi
All the tutorials call their controllers ''TodoController''[1] or
''RecipeController''[2] (singular),
but "script/generate scaffold Recipe" for example generates
a ''RecipesController'' (in recipes_controller.rb)
As I''m rather new to RoR I don''t know if that convention changed,
I read something about it here:

Dumping schema
All,
It looks like rake db:schema:dump does not dump primary keys.
I have some legacy table that don''t follow the convention ie pk = id
and
none of the primary keys for these tables are getting dumped...
Seems strange as this should be readily available from the db. I am
using
MySQL. Is anybody else seeing that ?
Incidentally how does one specify a primary key using

Add Column After Column in Migrations
Adding a column to a table just places the column at the end, but I
like to keep related columns together. Is there a way to specify
where the column is added in a table with migrations? For example, in
MySQL you can do:
ALTER TABLE my_table ADD COLUMN new_column INT AFTER other_column
I was hoping migrations would support something like this:
add_column :my_table, :new_column, :integer,

Pluralisation issue?
I''m having trouble with rails and a table named ''dives''. It seems to
work fine if I try it with another table name. I''ve generated the
scaffold with the script and have not made any modifications to it. When
I try to run the dives controller it starts looking for ''dife.rb'' and
fives me ''uninitialized constant Dife''.

weird table pluralization problem
When I created a new project and a "equipment" model for an unknown
reason to me rails tried to query the table "equipment" and not
"equipments", does someone know why it did that ?
So I added
set_table_name "equipments"
in the model class and it now works but I don''t really understand why it
is required in the first place...

foreign key question
Hi-
Say I have a db with following schema:
MyTable:
Id, name, user_id, date
User:
id, name, description
I know that I want to add "belongs_to" in my "user" model but how can
I enforce a proper constraint on the user_id in "MyTable"? Is this
done using a has_one in the "MyTable" model?
Thanks!

find and LIKE ''xxx%'' clause
Hi there !
I try to figure out how to do something like this in Rails :
SELECT * FROM my_table WHERE name LIKE ''GOGONAM%''
My problem is the % and the quotes.

searched_name = params[:name]+''%''
user = MyTable.find(:all, :conditions => ["name LIKE ?", searched_name])
But is there a more gracefull way to do a LIKE

Rails' inflections are messy
Yesterday, I opened a GitHub Issue<https://github.com/rails/rails/pull/7071> about
moving Rails inflections to an initializer. The idea wasn''t received well,
understandably, as generating a large initializer with new Rails apps is
pretty unappealing. However, the core members seemed open to the discussion
of alternatives continuing here.
For those of you not in the know,
