Installing wine 1.1.4 on Mac OS X - winecfg fails
After unsuccessfully trying the binary distribution at http://thisismyinter.net/?p=47, I've decided to compile myself from source, but only to realize that I'm ending up with the same issue when running winecfg:
Code:
$ /usr/local/bin/winecfg
wine: created the configuration directory '/Users/a5sk4s/.wine'

Noob problems with Darwine
I've installed darwine 1.1.9 on my mac. I've read all of the tutorials and forums that I could find but I'm still not able to solve my problem. I imagine I must be missing something that's so obvious that it doesn't even make its way into a tutorial.
I can't run programs. If I start winehelper and try to run a program (say regedit.exe) I get the errors at the end of

wine crashes when creating .wine
Dear All,
Sorry if the following is well known. I could find two or three similar
reports elsewhere, which were never answered.
When I first run wine, I get a page fault. This is with wine 0.9.7,
using ubuntu 5.10 (but I also had the same problem with gentoo with 0.9.x, x=1,2,3,4,5),
ati fglrx 8.22.5 drivers (but the same also occured with 8.16.x) correctly installed.

unhandled exception on 20050725 install from source on Fedora Core 4
I'm running FC4 with all the latest patches and kernel. I checked the basic
requirements for installation for all necessary packages.
Using the unpacked source, I installed by ./tools/wineinstall per the
readme. I got a long series of errors well into the process, posted below -
I've read the documentation and several help sites including this group and

Ruby/Rails TextMate macros
Could someone kindly send me a copy of the TextMate macros that pertain
to Ruby and Rails? I am assuming they are stored in or can be exported
to some kind of plain text file...
Sadly I am not yet able to make the leap from Linux (and Windows) to a
Mac and I am using Slickedit, which has *zero* built in support for
Ruby/Rails. I can add macros and code templates so I thought it might be

DOS to UNIX Conversion
On 17 May 99, Axel Neumann <amn@cromemco.com> had questions about
DOS to UNIX Conversion:

Maybe that's because the M$ "solutions" are crap, and much better
alternatives already exist.

Re: stale timestamp hell
Well, you're right Windoze does the same thing with my batch
file. But the timing on the editor must be different as I've
never seen the problem editing files on Windoze shares.
The captures show the problem the editor is having. In both
captures I mounted/mapped the share, opened the test file "e" and
appended a space and then saved it. The first time the editor didn't

General CentOS 5.1 (or Gnome) instability?
I've been a big fan of CentOS for a while, and didn't have many
issues with CentOS 4.X over the past few years. However, since
moving to CentOS 5.1 a few weeks ago, I have received more problem
reports from my users than in the last year and a half on CentOS
4.X. I've previously reported the problem with gnome-terminal
crashing (and since there is a single gnome-terminal

stale timestamp hell
I've been using a Windoze based programming editor (Slickedit) across
samba shares for years without any problems (most recently with FC5). I've
just started using Ubuntu and I'm now having a problem with timestamps
lagging file writes. The net result is my editor almost always
thinks another program has modified the file.
Today I built and installed samba 3.3.3. from sources and it

Software to code Rails
Hi!
After searching the list''s history an the rails-wiki I come to the
conclusion that the subject of "which software to use for rails-coding"
isn''t disucssed and written down yet. So here is my question:
Watching a video like
http://rubyonrails.org/media/video/clips/components.mov five question come
to my mind
1. Whats the name of the commendline-software?

My guess would be it's a file with more than one fork
(ie. more than one data stream associated with it).

Persistent locked files & Win95
I often find with Samba v2.0.3 that files accessed via Win95 (OSR2) stay
locked forever after exiting the application that used them.
I've got an application called Visual SlickEdit (VSE), which is installed
on a shared drive. The drive is an exported Samba share from my RedHat
v5.2 (kernel v2.2.5) server. Both the Win32 and OS/2 versions of VSE are
installed beneath the same subdirectory

Purely numeric service name
Hi
I have a problem accessing NT boxes which have a service (host) name
which is purely numeric, smbclient insists on treating it as an ip number.
For example:-
/opt/samba/bin/smbclient \\\\06842\\BACKUP xxxxx -U xxxxx
returns :-
Connecting to 0.0.14.34 at port 139
Connection to 06842 failed
I am using HPUX 10.2 and samba version 2.0.4b.
Surely it should be possible to connect to NT

Strange locking behaviour upsets Apache
We have a server which runs Samba and Apache. Web developers edit their
files (via Windows mapped drives) from Windows XP SP2. These files are
typically CGI files and the developers' routine is:
while (web page not quite right) {
1. Edit file
2. Save
3. Click Reload on web browser
4. Check results
}
They go around that loop many times during a typical development run.
