Filebench Performance is weird
Greeting All
I am using Filebench benchmark in an "Interactive mode" to test ZFS
performance with randomread wordload.
My Filebench setting & run results are as follwos

sub-optimal ZFS performance
Hello,
ZFS is behaving strange on a OSOL laptop, your thoughts are welcome.
I am running OSOL on my laptop, currently b124 and i found that the
performance of ZFS is not optimal in all situations. If i check the
how much space the package cache for pkg(1) uses, it takes a bit
longer on this host than on comparable machine to which i transferred
all the data.

ZFS slows down over a couple of days
Hi all,
I have exchanged my Dell R610 in favor of a Sun Fire 4170 M2 which has
32 GB RAM installed. I am running Sol11Expr on this host and I use it to
primarily serve Netatalk AFP shares. From day one, I have noticed that
the amount of free RAM decereased and along with that decrease the
overall performance of ZFS decreased as well.
Now, since I am still quite a Solaris newbie, I seem to

Occasional storm of xcalls on segkmem_zio_free
So I have this dual 16-core Opteron Dell R715 with 128G of RAM attached
to a SuperMicro disk enclosure with 45 2TB Toshiba SAS drives (via two
LSI 9200 controllers and MPxIO) running OpenIndiana 151a4 and I''m
occasionally seeing a storm of xcalls on one of the 32 VCPUs (>100000
xcalls a second). The machine is pretty much idle, only receiving a
bunch of multicast video streams and

Weird differing results when using the Wilcoxon-test
Hi,
I became a little bit confused when working with the Wilcoxon test in R.
As far as I understood, there are mainly two versions:
1) wilcox.test{stats}, which is the default and an approximation, especially,
when ties are involved
2) wilcox_test{coin}, which does calculate the distribution _exactly_ even,
with ties.
I have the following scenario:

arcstat updates
Hi ZFSers,
I''ve been working on merging the Joyent arcstat enhancements with some of my own
and am now to the point where it is time to broaden the requirements gathering. The result
is to be merged into the illumos tree.
arcstat is a perl script to show the value of ARC kstats as they change over time. This is
similar to the ideas behind mpstat, iostat, vmstat, and friends.

ZFS/ARC consuming all memory on heavy reads (w/ dedup enabled)
Greetings Gentlemen,
I''m currently testing a new setup for a ZFS based storage system with
dedup enabled. The system is setup on OI 148, which seems quite stable
w/ dedup enabled (compared to the OpenSolaris snv_136 build I used
before).
One issue I ran into, however, is quite baffling:
With iozone set to 32 threads, ZFS''s ARC seems to consume all available
memory, making

Performance Problems in smbmount but not in smbclient
I have an OS X 10.4 Server machine that has abysmal performance when
copying files to it over smbmount from a linux machine or through Finder
on OS X but performs very well when copying files through smbclient from
the same Linux and OS X machines. I have already tried the commonly
suggested adjustment of net.inet.tcp.delayed_ack=0 and have not noticed
a significant performance improvement.

Monitoring ZFS host memory use
Hi,
Please forgive me if my searching-fu has failed me in this case, but
I''ve been unable to find any information on how people are going about
monitoring and alerting regarding memory usage on Solaris hosts using
ZFS.
The problem is not that the ZFS ARC is using up the memory, but that the
script Nagios is using to check memory usage simply sees, say 96% RAM
used, and alerts.

kernel memory and zfs
We have a 32 GB RAM server running about 14 zones. There are multiple databases, application servers, web servers, and ftp servers running in the various zones.
I understand that using ZFS will increase kernel memory usage, however I am a bit concerned at this point.

ARCSTAT Kstat Definitions
Would someone "in the know" be willing to write up (preferably blog) definitive definitions/explanations of all the arcstats provided via kstat? I''m struggling with proper interpretation of certain values, namely "p", "memory_throttle_count", and the mru/mfu+ghost hit vs demand/prefetch hit counters. I think I''ve got it figured out, but

ZFS Prefetch Tuning
Hi All,
Is there a way to tune the zfs prefetch on a per pool basis? I have a
customer that is seeing slow performance on a pool the contains multiple
tablespaces from an Oracle database, looking at the LUNs associated to
that pool they are constantly at 80% - 100% busy. Looking at the output
from arcstat for the miss % on data, prefetch and metadata we are
getting around 5 - 10 % on data,

Samba performance
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to use samba in a small video post production house but we are not
getting the performance we expected.
Our setup:
- CenOS 5.6 x86-64
- samba.x86_64 (3.0.33-3.29.el5_6.2 and 3.6.0rc1)
- Intel based server (One 4 core Xeon E5620 @ 2.40GHz, 8 GB RAM)
- 4 Intel Gigagit ethernet NIC ports with 802.3ad bonding connected to a switch
configured tu use 802.3ad

I've searched and tried several ideas (na.action. and other things), but I
can't see

I'm guessing this is so simple I'll feel foolish for asking, but here goes.
Thanks,

Strange console call problem
Hi,
When I dial from my sip device to the extension 1234 which is linked to
the ALSA console driver the call fails with the message "No channel type
registered for 'ALSA'" (see below).
I would like to have the console autoanswer for paging.
However when I call from the console to the sip device the call
completes fine.
I alias alsa device hw:1,0 to card1 in /etc/asound.conf

Dial plan questions
I'm afraid I'm quite confused by what I've found on the Wiki.
I have the following dial plan that works:

exten => 2201,2,Voicemail(u2201)
exten => 2201,3,Hangup
exten => 2201,102,voicemail(b2201)
exten => 2201,104,hangup
When the phone is in use it goes to voice mail as busy. When not
picked up, as
