Why doesn''t redirect_to handle rjs?
Is there a good reason why redirect_to doesn''t check responds_to, so it can handle redirects in rjs calls? I''ve done something like this in my app controller, seems to work ok... alias_method :redirect_to_orig, :redirect_to; def redirect_to(options = {}, *parameters_for_method_reference) respond_to do |accepts| accepts.html do redirect_to_orig

question about ajax/rjs and redirection
i don''t even know if this is possible, so I''ll just ask. say I have a remote form. the form data gets submitted to the backend via AJAX. if there is a validation error in the form, i handle that on the AJAX side. however, if the form validates, I''d like to redirect the browser to a different page. Will a redirect_to work with an AJAX call or do I have to handle that

respond_to causes DoubleRenderError?
I have a custom authentication plugin that redirects users to a login site if they aren''t already authenticated and their session hasn''t timed out. I had things working fine with straight http requests, but wanted to add support for ajax requests. I thought this would be a simple matter of replacing all of my "redirect_to <blah> and return false" calls with

respond_to not detecting JS turned on. form_to_remote problem?
I''m trying to use respond_to to redirect visitors who have JS turned off to a different page. The problem I''m having is that respond_to is sending *everybody* there. It''s not recognizing that JS is turned on in the browser. The wanted_html.rhtml file below is rendered whether I''ve got JS turned on or off. I''ve looked at the Accept headers being sent

respond_to issue
I''m having some trouble with respond_to to handle multiple request types from a single action. The action: def login return if request.get? #just show the login.rhtml page on HTTP GET self.current_user = User.authenticate(params[:login], params[:password]) respond_to do |type| type.js { render } # renders login.rjs type.html do #fallback for standard

Rails 3 - AJAX Response
Hi, I need help with some AJAX in rails 3. So basically, I have a select option in my index page for my User model. This select option is a form that modifies the user''s type. request.xhr? vs. respond_to
Searched around this forum, but didn''t find an answer for this question. Can you help this newbie understand any overlap and/or difference between request.xhr? and respond_to? If request.xhr? is true, should I expect it wants.js below? respond_to do |wants| wants.html { redirect_to(person_list_url) } wants.js wants.xml { render :xml => @person.to_xml(:include

AJAX request not setting Accept header
I''m trying to stay DRY and use respond_to as I move to AJAX in my apps, but I''m getting some mysterious behavior. Here''s a simple form I''m testing with: <%= form_remote_tag :url => {:action => ''submit''} %> <%= submit_tag ''Go'' %> <%= end_form_tag %> When I submit the following HTTP request is sent:

Idiomatic looping over list name, value pairs in R
Considering the python code: for k, v in d.items(): do_something(k); do_something_else(v) I have the following for R: for (i in c(1:length(d))) { do_something(names(d[i])); do_something_else(d[[i]]) } This does not seem seems idiomatic. What is the best way of doing the same with R? Thanks. Luis

Change in default xml, rjs respond_to templates that Rails looks for on edge Rails
Not sure if this is the right avenue to discuss this but I couldn''t find anywhere to ask this question on Rails Trac. Regarding this latest changeset: http://dev.rubyonrails.org/changeset/6507 (Change default respond_to templates for xml and rjs formats.) Does anyone know the rationale behind it? I can imagine there would be an announcement in the future about this backward

trying to use Ajax.InPlaceEditor
Hi, I''m programming a Ruby on Rails project where I am on the edit page of /boxes/1/edit and I''m trying to make an InPlaceEditor for the color property. (E.g. red box, blue box, etc.) My problem is that after successfully saving the value in the database, the response I get from the server is javascript, and it''s being rendered in the place where the updated value is

redirect_to not working

I have a RESTful resource called session with the following code when logging in: def new end def create user = User.authenticate(params[:username], params[:password]) respond_to do |format| if user session[:user_id] = user.id flash[:notice] = "Welcome back #{user.name}!" format.html {redirect_to

respond_to format.json not being called
Hi all, I''m submitting a form using jQuery, but in the respond_to block only the format.html action is called. This is the javascrip: send_button.on(''click'', function(){ var form = $(this).closest(''.modal'').find(''form''); $.post(''/messages'', form.serialize(), function(data, status, xhr){

redirect_to and complex values
Guys, I have a number of actions that need to redirect to the user (as opposed to render) to an action so that a refresh won''t report the data. However, these actions also need to pass a hash to the targeted actions in the redirect. Trying to do this with redirect_to paramters converts the Hash to a String, which won''t work for me. For example:

Can I send a redirect_to() call to a periodically_call_remote() function?...
Hi, I''m using Rails 1.1 and the periodically_call_remote() helper to query the server for the progress of a long running action. I''m using the excellent new RJS partials to send a page.replace_html() to update the status information on the page--which works very well. When the action completes I''m also trying to send a redirect_to() by the same approach--which
