No write permission if POSIX bits 0 on ZFS written by M$ Office - dos_mode returning r
Hi all, I'd appreciate any pointers or advise regarding the following issue with files written by M$ Office on Samba 3.0.32 on snv_98 (OpenSolaris) on a ZFS filesystem: samba share: [sharename] read only = No browseable = yes writeable = yes directory mask = 0770 create mask = 0770 delete readonly = Yes acl check permissions =

ZFS ACLs/Samba integration
I''m currently prototyping a Solaris file server that will dish out user home directories and group project directories via NFSv4 and Samba. I have samba configured and integrated into our local active directory, with ACL mapping working. I''m a little confused as to the behavior of the ZFS ACL though. on a brand-new filesystem, touching a file results in: -rw-r--r-- 1 root

number of aces in big endian format?
Hello, Not exactly samba but related to ntfs acls, so hope do not get flamed! Recently I am seeing a response to get security descriptor query to Windows server as Malformed Packet in wireshark trace and the number of aces in the dacl in big endian format. I thought all the data over the wire was in little endian format! I have seen this on Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. Have not

Maildir: ACLs/Unix perms: unlink(...) failed: Permission denied
Hi, I tried again with some other options. After finding http://www.dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2013-November/093793.html I deleted every ACL from the directory Maildir and I also assigned the group "mail" to it, recursively: OmniOS-Xeon:/tank/home/olaf/Maildir/.Generiche $ ls -lV total 903 drwxrwxrwx 2 olaf mail 2 Sep 27 23:47 cur

No ACL inheritance with aclmode=passthrough in onnv-134
Hi list, while preparing for the changed ACL/mode_t mapping semantics coming with onnv-147 [1], I discovered that in onnv-134 on my system ACLs are not inherited when aclmode is set to passthrough for the filesystem. This very much puzzles me. Example: $ uname -a SunOS os 5.11 snv_134 i86pc i386 i86pc $ pwd /Volumes/ACLs/dir1 $ zfs list | grep /Volumes rpool/Volumes 7,00G 39,7G 6,84G

ZFS ACLs
I have OSol 2009.06 (b111a), and I''m not sure I''m getting this ZFS ACL thing: %whoami abalfour % ls -V file ----------+ 1 abalfour root 1474560 May 11 18:43 file owner@:-w--d--A-W-C--:-------:deny according to that ACL I shouldn''t be able to write anything having to do with file, correct? % cat >> file zsh: permission denied: file % mv file

Maildir: ACLs/Unix perms and unable to see content of specific mailbox
Dear Dovecot users, hello. I will merge two issues I have into a single email because they may be related. I used dovecot on a OmniOS server since 2014 (currently OmniOS r151014) with the following configuration (it shows 2.2.18 because I recently updated dovecot, skipping only the PostgreSQL plugin): # 2.2.18: /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf # OS: SunOS 5.11 i86pc zfs mail_location =

It's impossible to say. This sort of marketing statement is impossible to refute, because there are no details. Who knows whether

Best practice for setting ACL
Hello forum. I''m in the process of re-organizing my server and ACL-settings. I''ve seen so many different ways of doing ACL, which makes me wonder how I should do it myself. This is obviously the easiest way, only describing the positive permissions: /usr/bin/chmod -R A=\ group:sa:full_set:fd:allow,\ group:vk:read_set:fd:allow \ However, I''ve seen people split each

Samba 3 problem with inheritation POSIX ACLs
Hi list, i'm using Samba 3.0.14a as standalone-pdc with posix-acl-features. On the fileserver i've mounted an ext3 partition to /home /dev/hdc2 /home type ext3 (rw,usrquota,acl) The following directory structur exists on /home /home +-/public_folder (exported per samba as \\fileserver\public ) | +-/a | +-/a_ann | | +-/anyfolder | | +- anyfiles | +-/a_bert | +-/a_sven | +-/a_eve |

ACL bug FIXes for get_nt_acl()
Two attached patches for samba 2.2.7a and 3.0-alfa22, that I've made today, fix 3 bugs mentioned in my previous e-mail. 1) For each file in addition to ALLOW ACE proper DENY ACE is created. 2) "Take ownership" is shown DENIED for all except root ACEs 3) Read Permissions and read attributes are always shown as allowed, as they are actually allowed. -- Zhitomirsky

Online backup results using 4.10.2
Hello,     I would like to share some info on how I was able to successfully run an online backup after several failed attempts. I would constantly get the following error when attempting to run an online backup. ERROR(runtime): uncaught exception - (3221225506, '{Access Denied} A process has requested access to an object but has not been granted those access rights.') Looking

Samba 3.020 and Win2K with Kerberos 5
Hi, I've posted this one also to comp.protocols.smb, but the list seems to be more hacky :-) I have M$ Win2K PDC with Kerberos authentication system. PDC Win2K--------------SAMBA-3.020-------------LINUX Kerberos5 It was somewhere told (Samba 3.0 prealpha guide to Kerberos authentication)that this should work. I'm using RedHat 7.2 with latest patches (obtained via net from redhat site).

Re: time to build an open phone?
ACES - Asterisk Communications Endpoint System {the following could be used by any IP-PBX but the name pays homage to Mark Spencer and friends who cannot be lauded enough for their fine work} As you read this it will be obvious I am not a professional engineer but I do have enough knowledge to be fairly certain what I'm proposing is feasible from not only an engineering, but production

Operation Not Supported error for GETXATTR when VFS plugin "nfs4acl_xattr" is used
Hi Ralph Thanks a lot. With xattr_tdb I could at least list the files getting rid of access denied error. I still do not see the exactly mapped ACEs in the Security Descriptor of a file in Windows Explorer but I will debug that little further and then come back with questions. I see only 1 entry of Everyone on Windows client side if there are added ACEs using nfs4_setfacl. Let me know if that

ACL issues with ZFS
ZFS introduces a new and incompatible ACL interface into Solaris and this seems to be not yet fully completed in addition to the fact that is causes a lot of problems for software that needs to be compatible with Solaris-2.5 like star. Proof for incompatibility: create a file on UFS and set an ACL for this file. Use Sun tar cpf out file to archive this file. Unpack this archive file on ZFS

migration/acl4 problem
Hi, S10U3: It seems, that ufs POSIX-ACLs are not properly translated to zfs ACL4 entries, when one xfers a directory tree from UFS to ZFS. Test case: Assuming one has an user A and B, both belonging to group G and having their umask set to 022: 1) On UFS - as user A do: mkdir /dir chmod 0775 /dir setfacl -m d:u::rwx,d:g::rwx,d:o:r-x,d:m:rwx /dir # samba would
