[somewhat OT] Apache config for Rails + ColdFusion + PHP
Our group has several web apps developed in ColdFusion, PHP, and Rails. The
ColdFusion and PHP apps are on an older server, and the Rails apps on a new
server. Ideally, we''d like them all to share the same server.
Our current setup for the Rails server is Apache2.2 with mod_proxy_balancer
and mongrel_cluster. We''d like to have specific directories be processed
and served by

So I''m still working on a ''perfect'' setup so I can document it on the wiki,
and will submit some puppet patches against 0.23.2 next week, but here''s
what I''ve done that has made a big difference to stability here.
in puppetmasterd at line 261, I''ve modified the Mongrel instantiation from:

[slightly offtopic] A small, fast Apache2.2 (if there is such a thing)
Hi.
I''m using Apache2.2 built from source + mod-proxy + ssl + svn.
Everything works fine but I''m sure you I could disable a ton of
modules during the build process and in httpd.conf to speed things up
and run a tighter memory footprint.
Has anyone bothered building Apache2.2 from source disabling all the
unneeded modules.
I am planning on going through the Apache docs but I

compression + max file size upload liimit?
I am using Mongrel Cluster with Apache 2.2.3 + mod_proxy_balancer and
would like to enable compression (assuming it improves throughtput)
and limit file size upload. I configured mod_deflate and
LimitRequestSize in Apache, but in my trials looks like the proxied
calls bypass those directives (the conf goes below).
Is there a way to get this?

Apache2.2 + what to get Rails
Me: not experienced with Rails or Ruby,
Problem: Ubuntu 9.04 server in my shop ...couldn''t get Apache2.2 +
Passenger + Rails to work for Redmine. (No answer at Redmine list and
I don''t think its their problem anyway). Also couldn''t get Apache2.2
and just Rails to work, though some people said it would. Webrick
works.
Goal: run Redmine on a server that also runs PHP

mod_proxy_balancer mod_rewrite permission issue
I started the mongrel_cluster and tried to use the RewriteRule to forward
the requests to proxy_balancer just as the
http://mongrel.rubyforge.org/docs/apache.html said.
When I visited my site from a remote computer, I always got the error
messages "Forbidden, You don''t have permission to access / on this server."
Finally, I added the "Allow from all" property (in the

Production deployment
Gang-
We are getting ready to launch our ROR application; the last item
remaining is the deployment platform. For testing, we had used Apache +
MOD_FastCGI. I am not that impressed with it; sometimes it has strange
effects. For example, when we start the application, for about 5 minutes
or so, the app is very unstable and it gets better over time.
My questions is .. should I go with (1)

Ruby+Apache2.2+ProxyLoadBalance ...... +PHP??
Hi,
I just realice that I can''t run php code anymore once I installed my dear

I''m just trying to run the clasic phpinfo() in the following file
/var/rubyapp/public/phpinfo.php ... but instead of being executed the code
is being displayed as plain text ... This is the ouput :))
<?PHP phpinfo(); ?>

ruby rails performance
Hi-
We just finished our app and I tested for performance with httperf. Our
setup is browser -> apache2.2-> mod_poxy balancer-> mongrel cluster -> 3
mongrel servers.
I have noticed that the total request per second is is about 7.5. When I
increase the no of mongrel to 5, it inches up to 8 req/s.
My question is how bad or good this number is? We are on a old dell 2400
machine

mongrel tuning with httperf - suspicious results
Hello all,
I''m attempting to test/tune a mongrel cluster according to the tuning
instructions on the mongrel site (using httperf). Anecdotally, the site
itself ''feels'' snappy, but testing it with httperf reveals what appears to
be terrible throughput. I''m kind of at a loss to describe the results, and
was hoping someone could verify that I''m testing

trying to add another app
hey all,
I have an app working great with apache2 and mongrel_cluster.
However, I''m trying to run another application and now when I go to
app1.comit falls to
app2.com and the opposite. That''s probably because I messed up somewhere
with the cluster.
this is the content of my conf.d/app1.proxy_cluster.conf:

Apache 2.2, ProxyPass and HTTPS
Hi all,
I''m currently trying to get Mongrel running my app whilst fronted by
apache 2.2 in a sub-directory via https. A bit convoluted I''ll grant
you but necessitated by existing systems.
The pertinent parts of my httpd.conf:
<VirtualHost 123.123.123.123:12345> #historic choice of random port number
DocumentRoot /var/www/admin
ServerName admin.example.com:12345

mod_proxy, mongrel, redirect issue
Hello,
I am configuring apache 2.2 to serve my rails app through mongrel at
the root of my server. First, I redirect all http traffic to https
with the following:
ServerName emiliano
NameVirtualHost *:80
<VirtualHost *:80>
RedirectPermanent / https://emiliano #this server is only accessed internally
</VirtualHost>
Inside the <VirtualHost *:443> section, I have the following

(no subject)
Hi everybody,
We are developing several applications on a single server and I''m
looking for a way to use mongrel with each of them. Right now,
http://testapp.com/ is being served on that machine through apache
and mongrel. Here''s what a part of my apache config looks like:

Mongrel_cluster and rails app in a subdirectory
Info:
Apache 2.2
mongrel 1.0.1
mongrel_cluster 0.2.1
I''ve had everything working with a bunch of applications like this
when the the rails app is the document root, but a client just asked
to move the app to a subdirectory, leaving he rest of their site
alone. However, I can''t seem to get it to work. Let''s make the
assumption that the Apache document root for the

Mongrel Now Recommended Setup?
I see that the RubyOnRails.com site has migrated to Mongrel with Apache as a
front-end proxy.
Is that now the/a recommended setup for Rails apps? We''re still using FCGI
but I''m always interested to learn more about other folk''s successful
deployment choices.
Across all of our sites we''re pumping out about 300k pages per day so
anything that saves memory or has
