Problem running zilstat script on a core install server.
We cannot run the zilstat utility (from
http://www.richardelling.com/Home/scripts-and-programs-1/zilstat) on
an Solaris 10 u9 / x86 installed according SUNWCreq (which is a core
install)
while it works fine on a similar config but installed with all
packages (SUNWCXall)
So we know it works in this environment but it seems we miss an
essential package here. That causes the

dedicated ZIL/L2ARC
We are looking into the possibility of adding a dedicated ZIL and/or L2ARC devices to our pool. We are looking into getting 4 ? 32GB Intel X25-E SSD drives. Would this be a good solution to slow write speeds? We are currently sharing out different slices of the pool to windows servers using comstar and fibrechannel. We are currently getting around 300MB/sec performance with 70-100% disk busy.

ZFS portable between architectures, yes or no?
On the intro page (http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/zfs/intro/) it states that "ZFS has ''adaptive endianness'' to cope with different byte order on different platforms". However in the PDF (ZFS: The Last Word in File Systems) on page 3 it states "Not portable between platforms (e.g. x86 to/from SPARC)"
So is it or isn''t it?
Thanks,
John.

Seagate announces enterprise SSD
FYI,
Seagate has announced a new enterprise SSD. The specs appear
to be competitive:
+ 2.5" form factor
+ 5 year warranty
+ power loss protection
+ 0.44% annual failure rate (AFR) (2M hours MTBF, IMHO too low :-)
+ UER 1e-16 (new), 1e-15 (5 years)
+ 30,000/25,000 4 KB read IOPS (peak/aligned zero offset)
+ 30,000/10,500 4 KB write IOPS (peak/aligned zero offset)

yet another blog: ZFS space, performance, MTTDL
I''ve blogged about the trade-offs for space, performance, and MTTDL (RAS)
for ZFS and RAID in general.

How do separate ZFS filesystems affect performance?
I''m working with a Cyrus IMAP server running on a T2000 box under
Solaris 10 10/09 with current patches. Mailboxes reside on six ZFS
filesystems, each containing about 200 gigabytes of data. These are
part of a single zpool built on four Iscsi devices from our Netapp
filer.
One of these ZFS filesystems contains a number of global and per-user
databases in addition to one sixth of the

reminder: ZFS day next Tuesday
If you''ve been hiding under a rock, not checking your email, then you might
not have heard about the Next Big Whopper Event for ZFS Fans: ZFS Day!
The agenda is now set and the teams are preparing to descend towards San
Francisco''s Moscone Center vortex for a full day of ZFS. I''d love to see y''all
there in person, but if you can''t make it, be sure to

ZFS and NFS

We are having issues with the EMC appliance and RPC timeouts on the NFS

cluster a ZFS RAIDZ that is then NFS exported.

Re: zfs-discuss Digest, Vol 89, Issue 12
You could always use 40-gigabit between the two storage systems which would
speed things dramatically, or back to back 56-gigabit IB.

ZFS core contributor nominations
The time has come to review the current Contributor and Core contributor
grants for ZFS. Since all of the ZFS core contributors grants are set
to expire on 02-24-2009 we need to renew the members that are still
contributing at core contributor levels. We should also add some new
members to both Contributor and Core contributor levels.
First the current list of Core contributors:

CR 6483250 closed: will not fix
ZFS fans,
Recalling our conversation about hot-plug and hot-swap terminology and use,
I afraid to say that CR 6483250 has been closed as will-not-fix. No explaination
was given. If you feel strongly about this, please open another CR and pile on.

j4200 drive carriers
apparently if you don''t order a J4200 with drives, you just get filler
sleds that won''t accept a hard drive. (had to look at a parts breakdown
on sunsolve to figure this out -- the docs should simply make this clear.)
it looks like the sled that will accept a drive is part #570-1182.
anyone know how i could order 12 of these?

Configuring a 3510 for ZFS
Hi folks,
Myself and a colleague are currently involved in a prototyping exercise
to evaluate ZFS against our current filesystem. We are looking at the
best way to arrange the disks in a 3510 storage array.
We have been testing with the 12 disks on the 3510 exported as "nraid"
logical devices. We then configured a single ZFS pool on top of this,
using two raid-z arrays. We are getting

Is there any way to increase the ZFS performance?
