Mongrel and multi apps
Hi,
I use Mongrel to serve my Rails applications on my server, but how can I
serve more than one application with one mongrel server?
Thanks.

Multiple mongrels for one app
Hi mongrel-users,
This is my first post, so I''m not sure if it''s been asked before, but
I can''t find an answer anywhere.
If I have one rails application running, one processor I''m running it
on, and mongrel is multi-threaded, why should I have more than one
mongrel running?
Everyone seems to agree on 3-5 mongrels per rails app, but why?

mongrel becoming unresponsive
Hello,
I''m running mongrel behind apache via proxypass. Every now and then, a spammer
tries to proxy traffic through apache, and for some reason, apache forwards
the request to mongrel, even though it''s not a site being hosted by me.
At times this seems to cause mongrel to become unresponsive, and all requests
to the site then fail with a proxy error until mongrel is

Mongrel 0.3.13.3 -- Ruby Licensed Release
Hello Everyone,
This is the official 0.3.13.3 release of Mongrel.
Mongrel is now released under the *Ruby license* instead of the LGPL.
I''m hoping this increases the adoption of Mongrel even further and
hopefully I can start pushing to get Mongrel included in Ruby directly.
INSTALL
As usual, you install it with your friendly gem install method of
choice:
gem install mongrel

Rails / ActionPack thread safety
Hi all,
Both the rails book (1st Ed) and the docs on the rails site (*and* the
Mongrel FAQ) tell me that rails (& ActionPack /ActiveRecord) is not
threadsafe. Since I need lots of worker threads in the app I''m working on
(details at the end of this mail) this poses quite a problem for me.
Is the lack of thread safety a conscious design decision (kind of
understandable for rails

Mongrel Web Server 0.3.11 -- Edge Rails and Win32Compliant
I don''t think there''s a way to do that other than using a proxy
(ISAPI_REWRITE) or just a server-side redirect. I''d love to be proven
wrong though.

Interresting Changeset for Rails Trunk...
>From http://blog.codefront.net/2008/01/02/whats-new-on-edge-rails-the-pilot/
A native Mongrel handler has been introduced. This is so that it can be worked on independent of Mongrel?s release cycle (the Rails handler is currently in the Mongrel codebase). Jeremy Kemper (bitsweat) has already made a minor performance improvement by moving the mutex from the handler itself into the dispatcher.

Mongrel version in headers
Is it possible to have mongrel not advertise itself or at least its
version in response headers ie.
Server: Mongrel 0.3.13.4
Sorry if I missed this directive in the docs but I couldn''t find it
anywhere. Thanks

Software caused connection abort
Hi Zed or anyone that is also looking at Mongrel,
Just want to report something that, although doesn''t crash mongrel, is
rather annoying.
I am running the latest Mongrel 0.3.13.3 - ruby version on cygwin
(yeah, poor me). When I start mongrel_rails with
ActiveRecord::Base.allow_concurrency = true in environment.rb, I see a
lot of

strange bugs while using mongrel, while running in development (and also sometimes in production mode)
Following errors are taken from monrgrel running in development mode. It
complained routes.rb, no such file or directory and then sometimes i get
application.rb, no such file or directory.Doesn''t seem correct to me.
Though not so often, but even production servers throw these errors
sometimes, and i have no special routes setup or something. Its pretty much
default one, except few changes

Mongrel 0.3.11 - speed test ... seems slow
I did some basic speed test on my rails application. I use Centrino
1.7GHz, WinXP.
For simple test I used Apache ''ab -n 100 -c 10 http://url.... ''
Running Mongrel 0.3.11 I got:
development env. = 4.5 req./sec
production env. = 11.5 req./sec
Running Webrick I got:
development env. = 5.7 req./sec
production env. =25.9 req./sec
Does anyone know why the webrick is still faster?

mongrel logging on win32 platform and win32 service
Hi All
I am using version 0.3.13.3 and since there is no logging support for win32
application. I was wondering if it was possible to get any kind of logging
at all.
I have tried to these two options
1. Stream redirection using "mongrel_rails start -c C:/myspace/snapshot -p
4111 -t 70 -e production -P log/mongrel-1.pid > C:\temp\mongrel-1.log"
The console print the output stream

Rubygems 0.9.0.8 and Fastthread problem
Heya Folks-
This is mainly for Zed and Mentalguy. I have been playing with the
new release of rubygems 0.9.0.8 and I have a major problem with the
requirement that fastthread needs to be required before thread. Just
requiring rubygems and then requiring fastthread right after that
will throw the error:
ez _blog $ ruby
require ''rubygems''

multi threaded theoretically useful?
So here''s a random question: if a (Ruby) multi-threaded rails server could
exist (bug free), would it be faster than using a mongrel cluster?
(I.e. 10 mongrel processes versus 10 Ruby threads). I''m not sure if
it would. RAM it
might save, though. Any thoughts?

Mongrel HTTP Library 0.2.0 (Fast And RubyForgified)
Hi Everyone,
I''m happy to announce the 0.2.0 release of Mongrel -- the fastest
HTTP 1.1 library Ruby has yet.

Camping and Threads!
Hey Everybody!
I was wondering if/how Camping can process more than one request at
once (i.e. not what Rails does). I''m fairly new to threads, and I
bought a book, and read some of it, and dived into the Camping source...
I found some thread stuff but I''m not... entirely sure. So I thought
I would ask!

Mongrel 0.3.13.1 -- Quick Small Fixes
Hi Everyone,
This is a small release that fixes a little bug, some of the
documentation, and adds the new RedirectHandler code and a @redirect@
call for the mongrel.conf files. It''s fresh so don''t rely on it.
Everyone should upgrade with the usual *gem update* command (which tells
you it''s "Upgrading...") and tell me how it works.
This release fixes:

more on file upload
well, so File upload seems to be only working under mongrel.
I have not tried it, but Camping crash extracting the request parameters on
both CGI and FastCGI.
I''m looking at rails code for inspiration, but it''s a bit outside of my
knowledge.....
not sure what to do with a FCGI::Stream object .....
this is what rails do for CGI, I''m not sure if it works the same for

Mongrel + RubyOnRails + FileUploads = Problems?
I really like the idea of using Mongrel. But reading the FAQ, I noticed
something that might be an issue. It stated:
"Ruby on Rails is not thread safe so there is a synchronized block
around the calls to Dispatcher.dispatch. This means that everything is
threaded right before and right after Rails runs. While Rails is running
there is only one controller in operation at a time."
So
