OSX El Capitan - Fink - NUT
Hi I use NUT on a Mac to monitor a UPS which is connected to a NAS. When the NAS reports a low battery on the UPS it broadcasts and the Mac shuts down. Or it did. I have just upgraded to OSX 10.11 El Capitan. I have successfully upgraded Fink to 0.39.1. I now wish to update the NUT package, so that I can continue using upsmon etc. However, although NUT is apparently stable for Fink under 10.11

Fink package for xapian-bindings (Python)
hello folks! on this page (http://xapian.org/download) you have links to the Fink packages for xapian-core and omega; you may be interested to know that i've packaged the Xapian Python bindings. i'm working on similar packages for the Ruby and PHP bindings, and i'd be happy to inform you once they've been pushed out to the mirrors. -steve -- If this were played upon a

failure building memcached rpm
Hi all, I need to install the latest memcached version (1.4.20) on a number of machines in this environment. There are only rpm's of this app for RHEL 6. But we need to install the latest memcached on a number of RHEL 5 machines. To be specific, they are OEL 5.7 hosts. I've installed all of the developers tools that I would need. But when I go to build the RPM I am getting the

libogg 1.3.0 ?
Hi, today I learned that libogg 1.3.0 had been released in August 2011. Curiously, there seems to have been no announcement mail here, and it is not being mentioned on <http://www.xiph.org/press/> either. Is that on purpose? Is there some other channel I could subscribe to in order to learn about updates? Freecode.com doesn't have up-to-date info either (though I just submitted a 1.3.0

Xapian packages in rpmforge?
hello folks! i've recently joined the rpmforge maintainers; given that Tim Brody has already written specfiles for RHEL4 and RHEL5, would you be interested in my adding the xapian packages to rpmforge? this would eliminate (or at least reduce) the need for you to maintain a separate repository and would mean that many users (those who have already configured their systems to pull

centos driver disk?
the recent discussion of support for Promise SATA drives reminded me that a while back i remember reading about a project to assemble a driver disk to provide wider hardware support than just stock CentOS. how's that coming along? i don't see anything in the wiki about it... as i have a vested interest in this project (since i'm still relying on old MegaRAID controllers),

telnet to serial connection?
hello folks! here's my situation: i've got two WTI RPB+ remote power switches (essentially a 5-port power strip which you can control via serial interface to make each of the ports switch on and off independently). they work fine; i plug a DB-9 cable into the back of my machine, fire up minicom, and i have full control. however, my eventual plan is to use these as fencing

installing nut for Mac OS X
i'd like to install nut on Mac OS X 10.4.9; i can't seem to get the Fink install to work (notes below), and i'm only semi-facile at command line installs; is installing nut on Mac OS X as simple as "make install" and no dependencies? if not is there a summary of what i'd need to do? regarding nut on Fink: based on a note in this list's archive i found that nut

CentOS-4.5 and LG cd-rom/dvd burner
I would like to burn the cd-rom iso's of CentOS-5.0 on my desktop machine, which is running CentOS-4.5. Is there a site or other reference that can provide me with a detailed, hand held, step-by-step, blow-by-blow description on how to do this for my installation? Geany plugins out of sync
I'm intending to do some version control, hence looking for some plugins. ntop from rpmforge
I don't know why I haven't signed up for this list before since we use CentOS all over the place. The list is very useful and it is good for me to participate and "give back" to the community. Anywho, I wanted to post this response to a thread that was created back in November 2008 about the ntop daemon failing to start. I'm currently setting up ntop as a NetFlow &

Gnome Desktop Screensaver Security Lock Override?
We deployed our first CentOS-4 based workstation this past spring to see if we can conveniently replace all, or at least most, of our MS-Win based user systems with Linux boxes instead. Generally this trial unit has proved a success but there is one lingering problem that I cannot seem to find a straight-forward answer to: Is there an administrator override to a user's password protected

Backup options.
I am a long time FreeBSD user and have been using dump/restore for many years for disk to disk backups. Now I am getting more and more into FC4 and CentOS, but am I stuck on only using tar/star for backups? Tar in its various forms are fine for some items, like home directories, but dump and restore in FreeBSD also gave me the possibility of easily doing a bare metal restore. What are my

I installed ImageMagick via fink and port, but R can't seem to find it.
Hi, all, I have been trying to use adimpro. I have installed ImageMagick via fink and also through MacPorts. I have tried them installed separately and together, but R can't seem to recognize that they are there. Perhaps, a Mac user out there that also uses R would be able to help. Much appreciated, Art
