"Boot error" on USB drive on some systems
I searched the mailing list and tried to find an answer, but didn't see anything. I have a Sandisk U3 Cruzer Micro 4.0GB flash drive. I have removed the U3 software via the uninstall utility on the U3 website. The USB flash drive is on /dev/sdc I have tried this with syslinux 3.11 (from Ubuntu 7.04) and syslinux 3.36 (from Ubuntu Gutsy). I fdisked the drive and created a 750MB FAT16

syslinux-3.80-1 will not boot from usb drive on Intel 845 motherboard
I tried formating a 1 gig usb flash drive as fat 16 under fedora 9 using gparted-0.4.3-1.fc9.i386 and syslinux-3.80-1.i386 and and the drive will not boot. No error message, no nothing from Syslinux. There's only a slight pause as if the bios is looking at the usb drive and the bootloader syslinux created but can't seem to make heads or tails of it and then grub boots up from the mbr of

Failed to boot USB drive via syslinux if kernel is not in /
Hi, Sorry for asking this again if this have been asked. I searched this mailing list but I can not find the confirmed answer. We tried to use syslinux to boot USB flash drive. The problem is, if we put the kernel and initrd in /casper directory, syslinux failed to boot, it showed us: ------------------ Booting error message: SYSLINUX 3.11 Debian-2007-03-12 EBIOS boot: /casper/vmlinuz1 Could not

USB Thumbdrive + dos ghost boot image + drive too small = confusion
I will really hate myself if this has already been solved, i searched the archives but didn't really find anything pertaining to it. I have a 2.88mb dos boot floppy image, with ghost.exe, dos nic drivers, and dos system files. It works fine when burnt to a cd. As for the thumbdrive when trying to configure this hpghost.ima file to run from my syslinux.cfg menu, it works and boots up fine but

very slow boot from USB Pen-Drive
Hi there, I try to boot from an USB Pen-Drive. This works fine on my Laptop, but when I try to change to the target machine it almost takes five minutes until the initrd (fairly big, 18MB) has been loaded. Any hints on how I could try to increase speed? The Bios has already been updatet to the most recent Version. Sven -- "Das ist halt der Unterschied: Unix ist ein Betriebssystem mit

Unable to boot my USB flash drive, even with USB-ZIP trick...
I've been using a USB flash drive for quite a while now, and in my previous system it worked great, but, I find with my new motherboard now that I have upgraded I can't boot it. So I decided to try the trick mentioned in the README.usbkey file where you make a ZIP drive like image on the flash drive and set the BIOS to boot a USB ZIP drive instead. Unfortunately, it still doesn't

Can't boot a kernel from usb drive
I have been trying to boot a kernel I compiled. I tried 2 different USB thumb drives. I tried win32 syslinux 3.31 and 3.36 with no luck. I even tried another known good kernel for testing purposes. After syslinux starts I get "Invalid or corrupt kernel image" but I don't think it is even really trying to run it. The last time I built a kernel about 1-1/2 years ago you could put a

Problems booting syslinux off of USB flash drive with dell Intel D815EEA
I am attempting to install Gentoo on my cdless machine using the thumbdrive as a boot device. The motherboard is an Intel D815EEA, and is the latest firmware revision (at least on the BIOS). I believe I have done everything right, but it tells me I have unknown keywords in my syslinux.cfg and corrupt kernel images. The steps I have followed are thus: 1) Starting with a 4GB flash device,

Booting a USB drive
I have a 40GB IDE laptop hard drive I took out of a dead laptop and I was hoping to put some good use to it. The drive is inside a USB drive enclosure and I carry it in my laptop bag. Its not big enough to be a backup drive, and generally too big to BIOS boot from. The chipset on the enclosure is from Prolific and registers as a "Mass Storage Device" I haven't had good luck with
