USB Thumbdrive + dos ghost boot image + drive too small = confusion
I will really hate myself if this has already been solved, i searched
the archives but didn't really find anything pertaining to it.
I have a 2.88mb dos boot floppy image, with ghost.exe, dos nic
drivers, and dos system files. It works fine when burnt to a cd.
As for the thumbdrive when trying to configure this hpghost.ima file
to run from my syslinux.cfg menu, it works and boots up fine

PXE Boot Solution
Once again I feel horrible for asking something I feel is completely
off topic for this group but everyone is so extremely helpful :(
In my organization, we basically use Windows PE disks, to do our
re-images, after some time and a lot of help from this group
I was able to get a thumb drive to successfully work as a Windows PE
bootloader, as well as some other utilities like wiping the

Linux SYSLINUX vs SYSLINUX.EXE
To all or anyone:
I have a very strange problem when using syslinux, and lnx-bbc. Perhaps
somebody can provide some insight
into Syslinux as it relates to what I'm trying to do.
At Peerless, we use LNX-BBC to build a bootable USB thumbdrive. We
added a script to init.d in the ram disk
to execute one our scripts during LNX-BBC boot from the USB thumb drive.
I have seen an apparent

isolinux on a pendrive from disk 1
Hi
I just grabbed an 8gig thumb drive, took disk 1 centos 4 i386,
copied the isolinux directory files to my thumbdrive, then ran syslinux
-sf /dev/sdc1
on the device plugged it into my laptop and it does not boot.
Is there a step(s) I am missing to get a bootable thumbdrive with centos?
Thanks,
Jerry

install from USB thumdrive
Hi all
Is there a procedure to use an 8GIG thumbdrive to copy the centos 5.2
dvd contents
to the thumbdrive then run isolinux (or something like it) and be able
to use the thumbdrive as the install media?
Seems like it should work, however my machine only has syslinux not
isolinux.
yum provides isolinux does not return anything.
Anyway I was trying to get to a point where I can just stick a

PXELinux 3.11 vs 3.36
Hi,
Apologies in advance if this is rather long winded ...
I have a Windows 2000 DHCP/FTP/TFTP server, serving up a
linux-based diags package using PXELinux. Everything is
working fine, just like I'd expect.
I also have some WinImage images of DOS floppy disks that
I'd also like to serve via PXE. So I made up some simple
menus using menu.c32 to serve both the floppy image and the

I am using centos5.3 x86_64 on a gigabyte GA-MA78GM-US2H motherboard.
When I insert a USB thumbdrive its detected with dmesg, I mount it and
start to copy files.
Then I start getting errors:

boot thumbdrive with CentOS 7 ISO???
The big picture is I'm wanting to boot centos 7 and install kvm.
So far I've created on this new laptop a big, empty partition; in the
BIOS enabled legacy booting and disabled UEFI; also in BIOS under Legacy
Boot Order set "USB diskette on key/USB hard disk" on second priority.
I've tried to boot from a usb thumbdrive three times and it failed all
three times. I'm

combining kickstart and DVD on a USB thumbdrive
Hi all,
I am trying to find information on taking a DVD of centos 5.2 x86_64
and putting it AND my kickstart file on a USB8G thumbdrive.
Note - I am not INSTALLING linux on the USB disk just trying to make
installation media for it. I am not taking just the bootdisk.img file to
make the USB
bootable but the entire DVD content on the USB and my kickstart files.
I'd like to just be able to

Windows PE booting without chainloading ipxe
Adding an option for initrdfile= boot argument to be ignored by wimboot worked just fine.
They can add this patch, which is probably most sane, or syslinux could add the INITRDFILE configuration option instead of having to append the option for linux.c32

Boot Multiple Kernels
I can't seem to pick up on how to enter the path in the SYSLINUX.cfg file,
here is what I have tried:
label 3esx86
kernel 3esx86/vmlinuz
append initrd=3esx86/initrd.img
also tried
label 3esx86
kernel /3esx86/vmlinuz
append initrd=/3esx86/initrd.img
but I get errors like "cannot find kernel 3esx86.vm " or similar.

portable apps
Hi,
I am just back to using WINE after several years. Linux has come a long way since then as has WINE. Because of my work I use several different computers during a week and therefore have compiled all of my windows friendly apps into portables several of which are not availible for linux.
Is there currently a way to use my portables (on the thumbdrive) via wine? I would be totally MS free

Remotely Wipe Hard Drive
Looks like I can't install syslinux's bootloader on an ntfs partition?
What I'd like to do is remotely setup a bootloader to wipe the hard
drive contents on old assets.
I was kind of hoping, that I could install syslinux on a remote
workstation, and then throw a dban
image and the corresponding menu and syslinux.cfg files on the remote
workstation and then reboot it
and have the

Patch for chain.c32: Set default boot drive to CD drive from which ISOLINUX is booted
chain.c32 of SYSLINUX 3.82 does set the boot drive passed to the DL register to 0x80 and not to the boot drive (CD-drive).
This can be a problem if you want to chainload grldr (grub4dos bootloader) from a CD and if you want to let grldr search for its menu.lst file on the CD.
