Knoppix won't let me write to emergency drive
I appear to have lost the whole of my home directory on my centos
server (which includes all my mail saved from the last 7 years).
Although I have recent backups of most data I would like to copy
important files from /etc, and, if possible, /var/logs so that I can
try to find out what went wrong. However, knoppix refuses to let me
write to either my usb hdd or usb pendrive. Does anyone know how

NUT problem
A little while ago I changed my UPS to Leibert and installed NUT. Everything
worked as expected. Today I tried to use the MultiLink Viewer icon from the
desktop, but it simply accepted the root password without apparently doing
anything. I can run the viewer directly (as root) from a file manager.
The icon is owned by me, but the application is set to run as root.
I suspect that the

(a) WinPower RPM available? (b) where to install if use tar.gz file?
Two quick and simple questions; I want to install the "WinPower"
software for my new UPS. On their web site, they have a tar.gz file
available for download. I know the reasons for staying with RPM, if at
all possible. I''ve Googled and Yahood for ""WinPower"+RPM+Linux and
get hits, but no obvious RPM. I tried "yum install winpower" and the

Need to test serial port connection
I recently bought a new UPS, and I''m attempting to use nut to monitor it.
Following setup instructions everything seemed to go well until it came to
testing the connection, which failed.
There is just one serial connector on the computer, so I set it to
monitor /dev/ttyS0. Either that is wrong, or communication is failing.
I''ve been told to try minicom to monitor it,

Ext3 emergency recovery
I have a damaged Ext3 filesystem which fsck has not been able to
recover. If I try to mount it, I get a message like this in dmesg:
EXT3-fs error (device sda1): ext3_free_blocks_sb: bit already

If I try fsck on it, I get a series of messages like this:

HVM: Emergency Management Services for W2K3 under Xen with HVM?
It''d be nice to be able to use the "Emergency Management Services" for
Windows 2003 under Xen.. apparently, to use them, however, the BIOS has to
support serial redirection. Is there any way to get the BOCHS bios to
support serial redirection? I haven''t been able to find anything.
Thanks!

[LLVMdev] Emergency Reboot of llvm.org
Dear LLVMers,
I will be rebooting the LLVM server in 5 minutes (3:35 pm Central
Time). The system is experiencing unusually high load, no other
remedies have lowered the load, and we think a reboot will fix it.
Please make sure any commits to the LLVM repository are done within the
next 5 minutes.
Thanks, and sorry for the inconvenience.

Emergency Asterisk Guru help needed -- Yucky sound with MOH
I've recently upgraded *@home to CVS HEAD and in addition to losing the
ability to use the MySQL database, I've noticed that my MOH has degraded
significantly. I've tried all sorts of remedies -- removing the x100p
card and loading asterisk without the zaptel drivers and such -- still
have terrible MOH. I've used .raw. sln. mu. .gsm .mp3 files for the
music on hold and it

Phone Emergency - Need IAX Help
SBC has an outage that is expected to last until tomorrow
in our area. This has taken out our 5 POTS lines and our T1.
I have signed up with EXGN for outbound calls and am using
IAX. Calls ring through to the other party (my cell phone in
this case) but Asterisk doesn't seem to think the call
was answered. Ideas?

Emergency chan_sip issue
Greetings list,
Wondering if some kind soul can help me with an issue with chan_sip segfaulting as soon as it loads...
Basically, if sip.conf contains any peers with "host=dynamic" in them, asterisk won't start. Doing -vvvdddc yields the following:
[chan_sip.so] => (Session Initiation Protocol (SIP))
== Parsing '/etc/asterisk/sip.conf': Found

noveau: emergency shutdown handling is overcomplex and broken
Thanks for the pointer.
But I don't like this patch. If you find a bug, make a bug report or
just fix it if you know the fix already. Or write something in IRC. Or
write on the Mailing list as a general question or something else
But I really don't agree on doing it this way. You would have needed
like the same amount of time to actual fix the problem.
Anyway, for adding a printk:
