filename_convert_internal: checkname failed NT_STATUS_INVALID_PARAMETER
Dear All I have a PCBSD machine with /media shared using samba. Any microsoft clients can successfully connect to /media and browse directories I have created there. When I plug in a usb device, I mount it into /media eg: one labelled "PENDRIVE" becomes /media/PENDRIVE Some clients can successfully read /media/PENDRIVE, others cannot. Although the clients that cannot view the

Emergency rescue help needed
Since repeated power cuts last week I've been a bit worried about the state of my server. Today it spontaneously rebooted - but failed to complete. Now it isn't recognising me as a user, by the look of it, so I've got some questions before I do something that might make things worse. I can boot as root, and it appears that all my files are present. System-config-user sees me as user

USB bootable (using syslinux)
Hello! I just started using Linux and I like the possibilities it offers. I'm using Suse Linux (no MS Windows installed at all). I also discovered that syslinux is capable of making a USB pendrive bootable (with graphic menus). This is very nice. Since I'm a Windows user (up until now), I have some questions: 1 - I already downloaded syslinux 3.82 How do I install it on my pen drive

Security advice, please
My LAN is behind a Netgear router, which does NAT. On the CentOS server I have fail2ban running. This morning my router reported 3 different IPs attempting to send UDP packets to port 38950, Since each address is only seen 4-5 times, I presume that fail2ban took over after that. GRC reports that ports are stealthed (port 143 was open, but is now closed), but then: Unsolicited Packets:

how-to: installing R on Knoppix
Installing R on Knoppix Knoppix is a small LINUX distribution (http://www.knoppix.net/) runnable from a CD (without an installation) It can be also installed on a hard drive from a single CD. The idea was to reuse an old laptop with 6gb hard drive and 128mb memory. I had few days experience with Linux and few years experience with R. The latter was not required :-) The Knoppix installation

Multiboot pendrive with GPT - a tricky solution which could improve syslinux behavior
Hello! I'm posting some experiences with GRUB0/1 + sys/extlinux + MBR/GPT in a pendrive with 15 partitions. This could be helpful improving sys/extlinux. I did make a bootable pendrive with 14 distros using a GPT partition table and a tricky solution to let sys/extlinux boot from every partition chainloaded from GRUB (GRUB0 or GRUB1). Having a MBR schema, sys/extlinux can't be

Deletion of destination files
Hi to all rsync users. rsync's `--delete' option works fine in the following example: I'm sending all the content of /home/rodolfo from machine1 to /home/rodolfo in machine2: $ rsync --dry-run -vrtul --delete --exclude='/.*' . 192.168.0.2:/home/rodolfo , and --delete works perfectly. Instead, in this other example: $ rsync --dry-run -vrt --delete --modify-window=1 file1

Syslinux on USB not seeing any files
I've got a bootable USB pendrive with Syslinux 3.72, and while it usually works, there are a few computers, where I get the syslinux prompt, but it neither loads the configuration file, nor I'm able to boot anything. The only message I get on screen (apart from boot:) is "Could not find kernel image: linux". The configuration (and kernels) are in syslinux directory, but even

Linux boot hangs after/during read of initrd.img
Precis: I?m trying to debug a problem with CentOS7 failing to install from an ISO written to a USB pendrive ? anyone got suggestions? What works ? installing on a modern, ?standard PC?; the pendrive image boots and installs as I expect What does not work ? same pendrive booting in an ATCA blade. What I?ve tried is? 1. Boot the standard CentOS7 minimal image. This seems to start but then

Wine doesn't write in the USB pendrive
Hi, Everybody. I have tried to update Portable Firefox to the last version (v. 9) at home, in order I could get the latest one to use also at Office (where I don't have Administrator rights, neither can install Firefox 'natively'...); however, after reinstalling Wine 32 in my personal machine (running Mageia), Wine doesn't recognize the USB Pendrive ans 'writeable', then

system-config-display wrongly sets up Viewsonic VG730m monitor
I originally set up this monitor with an analogue lead. Everything seemed fine, so I didn't check xorg.conf at all. Then I bought a digital lead, and since then the monitor blinks. Running system-config-display identifies it as a 1280 x 1084 CRT monitor. It is an LCD monitor. That model is not on the drop-down list, so assuming that a specific driver wasn't available for it, I

installing mgcv (Knoppix/Debian unstable)
Just in case anyone cares or is hitting the same problem: to install current mgcv (1.0-5) on 1.9.0 on Knoppix/Debian unstable I had to: # cd /usr/lib # ln -s /usr/lib/atlas/libblas.so.3 libblas-3.so # ln -s /usr/lib/atlas/liblapack.so.3 liblapack-3.so Otherwise compilation couldn't find -lblas-3 or -llapack-3 (I could have gotten away with the links in /usr/lib/atlas instead of /usr/lib,
