Samba 3: bad read performance
??Hi all! We use Samba 3 server for some video stuff (editing, rendering, and so on) -- that's why performance is critical. We've tried a lot smb.conf options, but Samba can't satisfy our requirements. Our server configuration is as following: * Hard drive: RAID5 (8 x Seagate 7200.10), 3ware 9550SX-8LP controller * NICs (trunked): 2 x Broadcom NetXtreme BCM5704 * Processor: Opteron

Firewire question (Centos 4.4)
Assuming I have a firewire card with a supported chipset, is there anything special I need to do in order for the kernel to recognize the card? Shouldn't kudzu "wake up" and configure the card when I boot up after installing it? This is a brand spanking new 4.4 system and a supported Agere chipset firewire card. I'm having trouble tickling devices connected to the card.

Painfully slow NetApp with databas
Hello, We have long running problem with NetApp filers. When we connect server to the filer sequential read performance is ~70MB/s. But once we run database on the server seq read performance drops to ~11MB/s. That's happening with two servers. One is running Oracle another - MySQL. During speed tests database load is very light (less than 1MB/s of reads and writes). During the tests NetApp

I'm looking for success stories of hardware that folks are using in production environments, preferably with CentOS 4, with more than 4GB of memory per CPU. I know there are lots of mobos out there that can do this, but I'm looking for what folks really have running. Call me

SuperMicro X7DBE with CentOS4?
I am planning to build a server based on the SuperMicro X7DBE+-O motherboard. This server will have two dual-core Xeon processors and a 3ware 9550SX raid card. Has anyone built a server based on this motherboard? Are there any issues with the smp/dual-core support in CentOS4 that might cause problems? I appreciate any input. I'm just looking to find out about any possible problems before

Need help with an odd issue I am experiencing
I have a server with dual nic's running centos 5.2 1 nic connects to the cable modem, which has 15m d and 2m up, but speed tests barely come back at 5mb down including road runner's internal speed test. What have I done wrong?
Hi, I'm new to both this list and to openssh. I just downloaded 2.9.9 and did ./configure ; make ; make install. Everything was OK, no errors. But I must have done something wrong. Because after I started the sshd daemon, I can only connect with the "root" user. I have done ssh-keygen on other users but they do not work... I'm running Linux. I havent changed any configurations.

XEN - Broadcom issue: survey
I totally agree with Luc Boudreau about this problem. On modern branded server they ALL use Broadcom chipset... I must admit that: a) lot of people are experiencing the problem but can tolerate it or b) someone already experienced this problem and solved it Lets'' approach the problem pragmatically... just start with a survey on the list. ... hope we solve this issue soon. Can this config sustain 30 users?
I have this server I need to put to work. The option I have is to make it work as a small office PBX with SIP users and a Digium E1 Card for PSTN service. 24 SIP users and one E1 card in an Intel 945board (533 Front side bus) with 1GB DDR 533mhz of ram, one Pentium Dual Core 2.66 ghz (FSB 533MHZ) and two 80GB SATA disks. Can the box sustain the load? I can add another 1gb of ram if necessary.
