HotPlug, eSATA, and /media
Ok, got a quickie.
I have an eSATA drive, a 750GB Seagate in an eSATA external enclosure, and a
Silicon Image sil3132 ExpressCard controller for my laptop. The disk and
controller work great in CentOS 5 (or F7, for that matter), if I specifically
mount it.
This is not how I want to have to use this drive, however. I want to hotplug
it; that is, plug the controller into the laptop, and then

Request for additional patch in CentOS Plus kernel
Hi,
I have an Adaptec eSATA card, model 1225SA:
http://www.adaptec.com/en-US/products/Controllers/Hardware/sata/entry/AAR-1225SA/
Although the chipset is sata_sil24, it is not recognized by default by
the kernel because its PCI ID is different than the ones recognized by
this driver on the CentOS kernel. The driver recognizes PCI IDs such
as 0x3132, 0x0242, 0x3131, but not 0x0244, which is the

External SATA drive enclosures + ZFS?
Hi all,
Space is starting to get a bit tight here, so I''m looking at adding
a couple of TB to my home server. I''m considering external USB or
FireWire attached drive enclosures. Cost is a real issue, but I also
want the data to be managed by ZFS--so enclosures without a JBOD option
have been disgarded (i.e., I don''t want to use any internal HW RAID
controllers).

SATA errors in log
Hi,
I have a SATA PCIe 6Gbps 4 port controller card made by Startech. The
kernel (Linux viz1 2.6.32-220.4.1.el6.x86_64) sees it as
Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88SE9123
I use it to provide extra SATA ports to a raid system.
The HD's are all "WD2003FYYS" and so run at 3Gbps on the 6Gbps controller.
However I am seeing lots of instances of errors like this

rsync to my external eSATA HD is crashing/freezing my system...
Hello list
I've been running the following command, first in fc20 and then now
(since the beginning of March) in fc26:
now=$(date +"%Y%m%d-%H%M"); sudo rsync -ahuAESX -vi /home/
/run/media/readlegal/Backup/home >
/run/media/readlegal/Backup/rsync-changes_$now
Since the move to fc26, this command has caused the complete
freeze/crash of the system. I tried it under multi-user

External SATA enclosures: SiI3124 and CentOS 5?
Tired of "little problems" trying to keep 7 drives working in an old desktop
computer, I'm considering an external SATA drive enclosure with a controller
card based on the Sil3124.
http://www.ipcdirect.net/servlet/Detail?no=152
I'm a bit concerned about long-term support, namely that the company's driver
page only lists drivers through RedHat 4.

libata and PMP (Port Multiplier) support in CentOS
I'm looking at buying a NORCO DS-1220 and it comes with a NORCO 4618
PCI-X card (4 port eSATA, with a port multiplier on the card or the
chassis). I've been trying to pin down whether or not CentOS will see
all 12 drives, and I haven't seen anything that is definitive. I see
that the kernel module sata_sil24 supports the SiI3124 chip on the NORCO
4618 card, but I haven't found

SATA adapter recommendation
I have an old computer running CentOS 5. I need to add an SATA drive to
it, but it doesn't have any ports, so I need an add-on card. The board
only has a 32-bit PCI slot. Any recommendations on cards/brands that
work well with CentOS? I don't need any raid capabilities, I just need
a couple of SATA connections.
Thanks,

SATA controler req
Hello,
I'm looking for a recomendation for a SATA controlers. In the range of 4-8
ports, either PCI or PCIe (for desktop use) and/or PCI-X, PCIe (for server
use). I'd especially like it if the Linux driver was already in CentOS or
easily added. Everytime I find something interesting, a google search shows up
either the drivers is for 2.6.30 (ie, not CentOS), someone tried it and it was

Expresscard Wireless
I bought a laptop with no PCMCIA slot, just expresscard. Instead of
using a usb dongle for wireless, I would like to use an expresscard if
possible. Ubiquiti makes one that uses atheros chip.
Has anyone successfully used an expresscard wifi card in FreeBSD? Any
info?
Thanks

guest management: 1 and only 1 instance
Gang,
???? I run several KVM host machines.? Due to updates, maintenance,
and unexpected reboots sometime host machines are restarted.? I can
easily envision a scenario where HostX needs some critical packages
updated or is acting up.? I migrate guest0, guest1, guest2 etc. from
HostX to HostY.? Then, in either a planned (i.e. scheduled
maintenance) or unplanned (i.e. unplanned reboot) event

Hot swap SATA?
Should it be possible to hot-swap SATA drives with Centos5? It doesn't
seem to work on my system. Removing an unmounted drive locked the
system up, and leaving one out at bootup makes the devices change names
and keeps grub from finding /boot on a scsi drive that is shifted up.

st1000spex ethernet card and centos 6.2
Dear List,
I am still having difficulty installing a second ethernet card in a new
CentOS 6.2 install. Tom Bishop was kind enough to give me an excellent
link to figure out how to change the device names the way I need to have
them. It looks to me that CentOS is recognizing the st1000spex card
from StarTech but I am unable to get data to go in or out of it.

Using qemu+ssh on openSUSE 13.1/Tumbleweed
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Hi everyone,
I am trying to get libvirt with qemu-kvm to work on my machines
running openSUSE 13.1 / Tumbleweed. My question is in regard to using
qemu+ssh, which would be my preference, as I already have a working
ssh-key authentication with SSH-Agent.
I set the permissions of the manage-socket to 0770, added my user to
the libvirt group and set

Laptop SCSI capability supported by CentOS 7
I'm looking for a well-supported ExpressCard or PCMCIA/CardBus SCSI card
that can do at least FastSCSI (Narrow, Wide not necessary) that is
supported by CentOS 7. I have an Adaptec SlimSCSI 1460D, but it doesn't
seem to be supported (it's previously supported by the aha152x driver).
Any ideas are welcomed, other than 'just use a desktop.' I am not sure

X11-Forwarding for Reliant UNIX (formerly SINIX)
Hi !
To all: A Happy New Year !
During the last week I did some investigations why the X11 forwarding
on Reliant UNIX Versions 5.44 and 5.45 does not work out of the box
with OpenSSH-2.3.0p1.
The result fo my investigation is:
1. The OpenSSH sshd opens a TCP/IP-port 6000 + display number
and listens to it. This is fine and works with Solaris 7,
DEC-OSF 4.0D, Linux and FreeBSD-4.2 but not
