Mount LVM
Hi guys, sorry if this is trivial, but I have been googling a couple days and already compromised a test disk trying to figure this out, so I thought it is time to ask for some advice. I have a disk that comes from a clean and working CentOS4.2 install, and I am trying to use an external usb to ide converter to mount it on another workstation with CentOS4.2. I am trying this to better

LiveCD System recovery - Mounting LVM?
Hi, I am trying to recover data from my old system which had LVM. The disk had two partitions - /dev/sda1 (boot, Linux) and /dev/sda2 (Linux LVM). I had taken a backup of both partitions using dd. Now I am booting of CentOS live cd for system restore. I recreated partitions like previous system using fdisk and then used dd to dump all the data onto it. I would like to mount sda2 as LVM, but I

Dom0 lvm/software raid rhel4.1 booting issues.
Basically the issue comes down to my Volume Groups not being found by this initrd, causing good ole kernel panic. initrd-2.6.12.6-xen3_12.1_rhel4.1.img [root@xen01 lvm]# uname -a Linux xen01.inside.***.com 2.6.9-22.0.2.ELsmp #1 SMP Thu Jan 5 17:13:01 EST 2006 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux [root@xen01 lvm]# cat /etc/redhat-release Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 4 (Nahant Update 2) Everything

How to enable my RAID again
Hi I have setup software RAID two years ago using FC3 using the graphical installer (RAID1). In the mean time I installed CENTOS4.5 and everything is running fine. At least that was my perception. It now turns out that raid is not working and that LVS just finds 4 partitions from four disks and that's it.: /dev/sda2 VolGroup00 lvm2 a- 94.88G 0 /dev/sdb1 VolGroup00 lvm2 a-

can't recover LVM volume: Please specify a *single* volume group to restore
Hi everyone, I'm trying to recover a deleted LVM volume but can't see to get the syntax right. Running the following command gives me a list of backed up LVM volumes: root at usaxen02:[~]$ vgcfgrestore -l fluidVG_125094317679 ------- snip --------- File: /etc/lvm/archive/fluidVG_125094317679_00126-1479850541.vg VG name: fluidVG_125094317679 Description: Created

can't mount an LVM volume inCentos 5.10
I have a degraded raid array (originally raid-10, now only two drives) that contains an LVM volume. I can see in the appended text that the Xen domains are there but I don't see how to mount them. No doubt this is just ignorance on my part but I wonder if anyone would care to direct me? I want to be able to retrieve dom-0 and one of the dom-Us to do data recovery, the others are of

Looking for a life-save LVM Guru
Dear All, I am in desperate need for LVM data rescue for my server. I have an VG call vg_hosting consisting of 4 PVs each contained in a separate hard drive (/dev/sda1, /dev/sdb1, /dev/sdc1, and /dev/sdd1). And this LV: lv_home was created to use all the space of the 4 PVs. Right now, the third hard drive is damaged; and therefore the third PV (/dev/sdc1) cannot be accessed anymore. I would like

OT: Fortunate clueless dd chum - lvm recovery
Looks like the chum did not have to lose any data. Wiping out the MBR and the next 63 blocks apparently only wiped out grub stage1, partition table, and part of the lvm config data. I get to try to do a lvm 'recovery' at his expense now but this is my first time...has anybody ever tried restoring lvm config data back to the md/pv device? Cheers, Christopher

can not lvcreate after lvm snapshot and "xm mem-set" and lvremove
I am not sure if it''s a xen bug or lvm bug, or just my bad hardware, but here''s how to reproduce: /dev/vg0/centos1 is lvm block used by a domainU, it''s 8G in size. #lvcreate -L8192M -s -n snap1 vg0 #mount /dev/vg0/snap1 /mnt do some copying files here #umount /mnt #lvremove /dev/vg0/snap1 not removed! it says can''t allocated memory #xm mem-set 0 512 #lvremove

LVM Resizing Problem
I'm new to lvm. I decided to decrease the space of a logical volume. So I did a: $ df -m Filesystem 1M-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00 1953 251 1602 14% / /dev/sda2 494 21 448 5% /boot tmpfs 1014 0 1014 0% /dev/shm

LVM Snapshots -broken ? Ever worked ?
I've upgraded my x86_64 4.2 box to the latest kernel 2.6.9.34 and tried an lvm snapshot. It worked fine and I was able to mount the snapshot etc. Now I cannot seem to remove the snapshot. If I try a 'lvremove' it asks if I want to remove the 'active' snapshot, if I say yes it just hangs and the box goes to 99% wait io, however the disk lights do not come on during this. The

Quick query about LVM in 4.5
Howdy, Does anyone know if anything has changed with the LVM system from CentOS 4.4 to CentOS 4.5? I'm having kind of a funky issue. I've mounted LVM partitions manually quite a few times and I've never had this issue before: --- Logical volume --- LV Name /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 VG Name VolGroup00 LV UUID

please help LVM totally messed up
Hi all I accidentally deleted a LVM volume directly (rm /dev/System/newcpanel) and now my LVM's are all messed up. I have a snapshot from one of the other LVM's, as follows lvcreate -s -n newcpanel /dev/System/wiseguy -L10G But, instead of running lvremove /dev/System/newcpanel I ran rm /dev/System/newcpanel ( I don't know why) So, now I have waisted space on my server, and I

how to access lvm inside lvm
I have a centos 5.6 server that has xen domUs installed on their on logical volumes. These logical volumes contain their own volume groups and again their own logical volumes. I want to access the domU logical volumes and tried this: [root at kr ~]# fdisk -l /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol02 Disk /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol02: 274.8 GB, 274877906944 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 33418 cylinders Units =

steps to add a new physical disk to existing LVM setup in new centos box?
Not a centos specific question here, but if anyone can save me from shooting myself in the foot would appreciate any pointers.... I have an older centos 4.7 box that I recently replaced with a newer one running centos 5.3. I'd like to add the hard disk from the older one to the newer one before I scrap it for good. I don't care about the data on it, would just like the extra drive
