3Ware 9550SX and latency/system responsiveness
Dear list, I thought I'd just share my experiences with this 3Ware card, and see if anyone might have any suggestions. System: Supermicro H8DA8 with 2 x Opteron 250 2.4GHz and 4GB RAM installed. 9550SX-8LP hosting 4x Seagate ST3250820SV 250GB in a RAID 1 plus 2 hot spare config. The array is properly initialized, write cache is on, as is queueing (and supported by the drives). StoreSave

CentOS 6.0 and 3ware 9650SE series RAID Performance
Hello, Does anyone have experience using a 3ware 9650SE series raid controller on CentOS 6.0? I am getting very sporadic throughput with moderately sized files (0.5-2GB) on ext3. I have tried most of the mount time tuning options: * noatime * trying different journal types * setting commit=120 - helped a little Even after these optimizations it doesn't seem like the raid array is working

LSI/3ware 9750-4i and multipath I/O
Hi, I was wondering if anyone has successfully configured two lsi/3ware 9750-4i series controllers for multipathing under CentOS 5.7 x86_64? I've tried some basic setups with both multibus and failover settings, and had repeatable filesystem corruption over a iscsi(tgtd) or nfs3 connection. Any ideas? Vahan

3ware 9550SXU-4LP performance
Hi, I used xen-3.0.2-2 (2.6.16) before and the performance of my 3ware 9550SXU-4LP wasn''t too bad, but now with 3.0.3.0 (2.6.16.29) throughput decreased by about 10MB/sec in write performance. sync; ./bonnie++ -n 0 -r 512 -s 20480 -f -b -d /mnt/blabla -u someuser now (2.6.16.29): Version 1.03 ------Sequential Output------ --Sequential Input- --Random- -Per

Centos 5.2 install problem
Hi, I'm trying a fresh install on a x86_64 (Supermicro X7dbe, 2xIntel Xeon X5450, 8 GB, 3WARE 9650SE-8LPML, 3 disks in RAID 5). The format takes quite long (2,7 TB), that seems to be normal, but then the first boot will not take place, instead the system loops. Any hints? The message follows: Regards Michael Mounting root filesystem. mount: could not find filesystem '/dev/root'

tgtadm and exported iscsi volumes
Out of haste I decided for the first time not to pull down and compile iet to export a single volume to a windows machine so I just used tgtd. Well, much more time later than otherwise would be the case had I used iet, when I mount the volume on the windows ini, it can't find and install a driver? WTF? This have anything to do with the tgtd being a tech preview:) Anybody seen this b4? jlc

3ware 9650SE drivers for CentOS 5.0-EL kernel 2.6.18-8
Hi, I'm trying to install K12LTSP based on CentOS 5.0-el 32bits kernel 2.6.18-8 on a server with 3ware 9650SE raid controller. Does anybody know where I can find a driver diskette for the raid controller as this is only supported from kernel 2.6.19. Thanks for any help Gert

Centos 5 [Beta] on 3ware 9650se controller
Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that CentOS 5 Beta (or likely final) supports the 3ware 9650se card. Since 3ware hasn't released a driver disk yet, I put one together. It supports CentOS 5 Beta, and may/should support Final. If anyone is interested, I've posted it here: http://www.truedesign.org/3ware-centos5/ Jason

Motherboard + 3ware 9650SE suggestions
Hello everyone! Working on putting a storage server together and wanted to get some input as to what motherboards have been working for people with the 3ware 9650SE-12ML raid board. This is large, bulk storage, 2-tier stuff. This will not be used for realtime editing of video or something, but a gig nic is almost a given I hope. I have an AMD chip available (AM2 slot) but I can get a new chip

3ware 9650SE success
I had posted a question recently on this list regarding the new series of cards from 3ware, and wanted to follow up with some real-world results. My test motherboard was an Intel D945GTPLKR (a desktop board). I was able to use the motherboard video and plug the 3ware card into the PCIe x16 slot. The card I was testing with (16ML) is a PCIe x8 card. Hardware-wise, everything worked without

Anyone try the 3ware 9650 on CentOS 5.2?
Humm. I was expecting the newer 5.2 kernel to have an updated 3ware driver but modinfo indicates that this hasn't changed. It still shows as 2.26.02.008 vs the CentOS 4.6 kernel having 2.26.05.007. Maybe they updated the driver but not the version number? Does the 3ware driver 2.26.02.008 work well enough with the 9650 or are we still expected to go get an updated driver from 3ware right

What iSCSI is used in Centos 5 and RHEL6?
I was looking up on iSCSI in preparation and became aware that there are different iSCSI software/drivers/whatever-is-the-correct-term available. e.g. IET http://iscsitarget.sourceforge.net/ SCST http://scst.sourceforge.net/ STGT http://stgt.berlios.de/ LIO http://linux-iscsi.org/ Based on what I can see, it seems to be STGT because the site provides a link to Redhat advisory which seems to

3Ware 9550SX-4LP Performance
I know there are a few 3Ware fans here and I was hoping to find some help. I just built a new server using a 3Ware 9550SX-4LP with four disks in raid 5. The array is fully initialized but I'm not getting the write performance I was hoping for -- only 40 to 45MB/Sec. 3Ware's site advertises 300MB/Sec writes using 8 disks on the PCI Express version of this card (the 9580 I think.)

iSCSI Question
Hey everyone, Is anybody aware of a /true/ active/active multi-head and multi-target clustered iSCSI daemon? IE: Server 1: Hostname: host1.test.com IP Address: 10.0.0.1 Server 2: Hostname: host2.test.com IP Address: 10.0.0.2 Then they would utilize a CLVM disk between them, let's call that VG "disk" and then directly map each LUN (1,2,3,4,etc) to LV's named 1,2,3,4,... and

kernel: blk_cloned_rq_check_limits: over max segments limit., Device Mapper Multipath, iBFT, iSCSI COMSTAR
Hi, WARNING: Long post ahead I have an issue when starting multipathd. The kernel complains about "blk_cloned_rq_check_limits: over max segments limit". The server in question is configured for KVM hosting. It boots via iBFT to an iSCSI volume. Target is COMSTAR and underlying that is a ZFS volume (100GB). The server also has two infiniband cards providing four (4) more paths over SRP

3Ware 9650SE and XFS problems under Centos 5.3
Hello all, Came across my first real "problem" in all the years I've been using Linux today and I'm stumped for an answer. I've recently built a back-up server on top of Centos 5.3 using a 3Ware 9650SE 4 port SATA card and 4 x 1.5TB drives in a RAID 5 array. I went for the 3Ware card as it has driver support already so any kernel updates won't require me to rebuild the

iSCSI ini and ESX Server
I always used IET on CentOS but I have a quick server to setup to backup some VM's, then migrate to DAS on another server and the easiest way for me will be to accomplish this via iSCSI vmfs stores. I figured I would just use the ini that ships with CentOS but have never used it against ESX, anyone do this and have experiences they care to share? Should it be trivial or are there any non

using CentOS as an iSCSI server?
Has anyone succesfully setup, and used CentOS as an iSCSI server? I'm trying to setup a server with 4x500GB HDD's, setup in RAID 10 to act as an iSCSI server for a virtualization project, but I can't find a decent howto on how to setup an iSCSI server using CentOS. I would like to setup something like Openfiler, but we also need todo some other stuff that OpenFiler doesn't
