yum erase fails
I am trying to erase an rpm with yum erase. It fails: service hipfw does not support chkconfig Removed: hipl-firewall.i386 0:1.0.4.1 Complete! And it is not removed.... If I try with rpm -e, I get the same error message. So how do I remove this rpm?

Why libnetfilter_queue is missing from CentOS, but available in, Fedora?
I am asking this on behalf of the HIPL developers; http://infrahip.hiit.fi/ https://launchpad.net/hipl They have been working on getting their code consistant to the new libnetfilter architecture. Finally have Fedora 18 and 19 available, but have hit a stumbling block with Centos 6. They tell me they are not finding libnetfilter_queue. Here is their message to me: On 08/08/2013 02:03 PM,

Problems with building an rpm
I followed the setup instructions from http://www.owlriver.com/tips/non-root/ (link from the Centos wiki). All this is done on another 'clean' system, so I have to read the terminal screen there and tell what went wrong here. I then followed my colleague's instructions to get the tar, untar, autogen, configure, and finally make rpm. Well it was that make rpm command that finally

Support for ECDSA in OpenSSL?
Does the version of OpenSSL on Centos 6.5 support ECDSA keypairs? How do I test if this works? (though I should probably ask this on the OpenSSL list) The reason I suspect a problem is that HIPL for Centos (http://infrahip.hiit.fi/) is not creating the ECDSA Host Identity, whereas my Fedora installation IS creating the ECDSA HI.

0006698: CentOS is missing libnetfilter queue related packages
I am working with HIP for Linux: http://infrahip.hiit.fi/ We are looking to some major server support on currently Centos 6 cloud images. Problem is for other distros, hipl has moved on to libnetfilter_queue which is not supported in Centos 6. See: http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=6698 How can we get this as part of the standard install and maintained libs? thank you.

question on /etc/defaults
My colleague, doing the HIPL development, principally uses ubuntu and although he is now building the Fedora/Centos rpms for me, he leaves much of the testing to me..... Anyway for any kernel prior to 2.6.27, I have to run the hip code in userspace, not kernel space. This is due to the ESP BEET patch. There is a specific hipd for userspace, but the hipfw requires a different option. For a

Finding a python module
A colleague supplied me with a set of rpms he built on his Fedora box and when I tried to install them with yum localinstall I got a missing dependency: Resolving Dependencies --> Running transaction check ---> Package hipl-doc.i386 0:1.0.4-1 set to be updated ---> Package hipl-tools.i386 0:1.0.4-1 set to be updated --> Processing Dependency: python(abi) = 2.5 for package:

My turn at building a custom kernel for IPsec BEET mode
Well I am working on building a kernel that will have the IPsec BEET mode patch available from infrahip.hiit.fi. I have some decent help, but really no one there is a seasoned Centos kernel builder (though they work with different FC kernels), and now they are mostly done for the day. I have been following the wiki on building a custom kernel, got my patch in ~/rpmbuild/SOURCES and away with

Looking for remote console on iPv6 without security layer
I am looking for a remote console program that I can run over IPv6. I do not need it to supply its own security layer, as I will be running it over HIP (http://infrahip.hiit.fi/). I have discovered that VNCSERVER that comes with Centos does not support IPv6. I would have to pay for a copy of Enterprise VNC from RealVNC for IPv6. I am having strange font problems wiht tightVNC (which is

New rpm, same name, how to update
I have to build my own rpms for the HIPL project. I update my copy of the code and make rpm. Thing is the rpm name never changes from patch to patch. Is there a way to have yum apply the new code as an update and not have to erase then install?

Looking for uuid-devel
Just pulled the lastest patches to HIPL (well the last replay was 11/24, so a number of nights behind) and tried a 'make rpm' and got the error: error: Failed build dependencies: uuid-devel is needed by hipl-1.0.4-1.i386 And I can'd find any rpm that has this module. I have tried different things in yum and have not found it. resolvedep, whatprovides, info, list.

Custom build kernel patch fails big time.
I am trying to build a custom kernel for the HIPL code (infrahip.hip.fi), using the patch for the Linux 2.6.18 kernel. I followed all the instructions for getting the kernel source and making a custom kernel provided on the wiki. The rpmbuild fails with the following messages: Get an error on this step (figured out my other problem): Patch #40000

yum hangs when Reading Local RPMDB
All of a sudden yum hangs on a Centos 4.5 (updated to the latest patch before 4.6) when I try to use it. "clean metadata" didn't help. The output of -d5 shows it gets to the point of "Reading Local RPMDB" and then sits there. The process doesn't die, but doesn't seem to do anything from that point on. strace shows this: futex(0xb76dcae8, FUTEX_WAIT, 2, NULL I

Yum Issue.. Installing Older Package Version
Hello fellow CentOS'ers- I'm trying to install a package from a not-to-be-named repository (privately operated for some proprietary software). They currently have a package I need but offer multiple versions. However, if I simply 'yum install packagename' it defaults to pulling down the most recent package. I would like to pull down the older version of the package but I'm

OpenChrome video driver for Centos
I can find xorg-x11-drv-openchrome-0.2.901-1 for EL5, but not the current xorg-x11-drv-openchrome-0.2.903-1 (which only goes from FC8 on). Since my OQOs have the CX700M2 chip and there are listed enhancements for this chip in the 903 version, I would really like to get it...

I changed my Sernet Samba repos from 3.4 to 3.5 and updated the Sernet Packages on my CentOS Server with yum. During the installation I got %postun errors. No shared physical device in virt-manager
I am fairly new to xen and am trying to build a new guest using virt-manager. When I get to the screen where you can choose virtual or shared physical device there are no physical devices to choose from. DHCP and DomUs: not working
I''m trying to get DHCP working with DomU clients. I don''t want to use libvirtd. There''s a dhcpd on the machine and it works fine for all clients in the network, but not for DomUs. If I set a static IP on the DomU all networking for them is fine, so there''s no general networking problem. I use the xen 3.2 packages for CentOS on CentOS 5.1. There was a public
